| Well, search SourceForge or something, I guess. My concern though is that if you were to find something that displays a full tree of your computer, all folders, subfolders, etc laid out, it wouldn't be any easier to use that than it would be to do it the "hard way", simply due to the sheer amount of information you would then be presented with and the computer's limitation in displaying it all without problems. I just think it'll get very, very messy. I know doing it to my machine would. Now, if you didn't want to display the whole tree, but rather have a modified version of Windows Explorer that displayed folder sizes, that might be easier to work with... but I still don't know of anything. |

| Any Aussies here? I know that I used to know some but lately I'm not sure if I know many aussies here anymore. Anyways, if there are any aussies here, what are you doing for Australia Day? I'm just having a quiet day. I'm gonna watch some of the tennis. It's been good to see the Aussies doing well. I should also have a listen to the JJJ Hottest 100...So... my question for the Aussies... what're you doing for Australia Day? |

Hmm... I feel like I'm in your boat a bit. It comes and goes for me. |
I work full time, I come home and do housework and cooking and the cleanup afterwards, I visit the forum, but I don't really seem to do much that that interests me. I loathe the bus ride home from work -- for some reason that ride is more painful than the one to work. I think it's because of the realisation that I'm not really coming home to much. That and the commuting itself takes so farking long that it eats up perfectly good time when I COULD be doing things! I have a partner, but I don't see him much. He works, pretty well to the point of obsession. I've taken to buying bottles of Baileys' before I go home, and having a drink or two of an evening. I wish I could recommend something though to make you feel better -- but if I could, I'd use the same advice to make my own life feel a little less empty. I have noticed that when I try to take an interest in other stuff, that helps a bit, so I tend to now go to the anime/manga merchandise store a bit, so I can chat with the people there and see if there's any manga I want to buy. That keeps me amused for a little while, and I get along well with the people in the store. I've been considering finding out if there's an anime club or something I should join, for something to involve myself in -- but I'm too.... lazy.Maybe find something like that you'd like to do? But yes, I know what you mean, I think I'm in the same boat....

Wee, another Australia Day, another Hottest 100. |
As voted by Australian non-commercial radio listeners, these are the hottest songs of 2004. This happens every year, and it's a really big thing, something like the biggest regular musical vote in the country and I think at one stage (not sure anymore) the world. Here are the results. It includes a lot of local Aussie stuff. ![]() 1 franz ferdinand - take me out 2 missy higgins - scar 3 eskimo joe - from the sea 4 the killers - somebody told me 5 spiderbait - black betty 6 missy higgins - ten days 7 john butler trio - something's gotta give 8 little birdy - beautiful to me 9 powderfinger - bless my soul 10 the white stripes - jolene (live) 11 modest mouse - float on 12 the dresden dolls - coin-operated boy 13 the killers - mr brightside 14 evermore - it's too late 15 ben lee - gamble everything for love 16 grinspoon - hard act to follow 17 butterfingers - yo mama 18 the streets - fit but you know it 19 the streets - dry your eyes 20 spiderbait - f***kin awesome 21 william shatner - common people 22 green day - american idiot 23 scissor sisters - take your mama 24 jet - look what you've done 25 john butler trio - treat yo mama 26 grinspoon - better off alone 27 sarah blasko - don't u eva 28 beastie boys - ch-check it out 29 franz ferdinand - this fire 30 dresden dolls - girl anachronism 31 kings of leon - the bucket 32 eskimo joe - older than you 33 the bees - chicken payback 34 machine gun fellatio - what the fuck? 35 scribe - not many {remix} 36 jeff buckley - forget her 37 ben folds - adelaide 38 u2 - vertigo 39 the killers - smile like you mean it 40 little birdy - this is a love song 41 faithless - mass destruction 42 lior - this old love 43 dogs die in hot cars - godhopping 44 scissor sisters - take me out {cover franz ferdinand} 45 wolfmother - woman 46 rammstein - amerika 47 the living end - i can't give you what i haven't got 48 elliott smith - memory lane 49 missy higgins - casualty 50 franz ferdinand - the dark of the matinee 51 john butler trio - what you want 52 regurgitator - my friend robot 53 placebo english summer rain 54 waifs, the bridal train 55 hives, the walk idiot walk 56 xavier rudd shelter 57 evermore for one day 58 scissor sisters laura 59 xavier rudd solace 60 your wedding night lachlan 61 deep dish - flash dance 62 eskimo joe - smoke 63 n.e.r.d. - she wants to move 64 epicure - self destruct in 5 65 chemical brothers - galvanize 66 devendra banhart - little yellow spider 67 black keys, the - 10am automatic 68 powderfinger - process this 69 freestylers, the - push up 70 starsailor - four to the floor (remix) 71 the von bondies - c'mon c'mon 72 polyphonic spree - hold me now 73 panda band, the - sleepy little deathtoll town 74 interpol - slow hands 75 the spazzys - paco doesn't love me 76 interpol - evil 77 snow patrol - run 78 little birdy - tonights the night 79 dallas crane - dirty hearts 80 the dissociatives - young man old man 81 end of fashion - rough diamonds 82 mylo - drop the pressure 83 dallas crane - numb all over 84 dogs die in hot cars - i love you cause i have to 85 regurgitator - the drop 86 the unicorns - i was born (a unicorn) 87 sia - breathe me 88 a perfect circle - imagine 89 jet - get what you need 90 greenskeepers - lotion 91 decoder ring - somersault 92 scissor sisters - comfortably numb 93 john butler trio - hello 94 the vines - ride 95 placebo - twenty years 96 after the fall - mirror mirror 97 gyroscope - safe forever 98 gomez - catch me up 99 the butterfly effect - always 100 fabienne delsol - i'm gonna haunt you

Well, we are lucky that the staff here are willing to discuss these things with us and ask for our opinion. |
There are a lot of forums where the staff will implement changes without asking or informing their users at all. There are even some where the staff reserve the right to ban whomever for any (or no) reason at any time. We are lucky here that the staff do ask for our opinions. But they can't please everybody all of the time, and any decision they make will upset at least SOMEBODY. I have no solution for that, sorry.

Microsoft are going to be limiting availability of patches to users of pirated versions of Windows. Soon apparently the only way you will be able to get an update is through the automated process, and even that might not last long. |
Article at MSNBC Article at Reuters I wonder if there'll still be administrative updates for things or not... interesting. Oh well, my copies of Windows are legal. ![]()

Yes, it will suck for those people, and there are a LOT of people with pirated copies... I know that there are a lot of users in the home computing environment with dodgy copies of just about everything. |
Course, if they are going to try to use this as a way of then selling legitimate copies of Windows, I hope that they are able to do so at a price that people can afford easily... .. otherwise I dread that this may lead to more zombie boxes used by spammers / hackers to spam / DDoS people... simply because people can no longer patch their machines. Ah yeah.... I'd be happy if Portalgraphics ported Open Canvas to Mac, but for now it's the sole reason I hang on to my P4 Windows machine. |
If you haven't tried Painter though, I suggest you do. It doesn't take the same simple approach to things that OpenCanvas and Alias Sketchbook take -- in complexity, Painter is on par with (if not more complex than) Adobe Photoshop. Which is also why a few artists say it's too hard.... As for motion, I'm not sure what to suggest there... that's something I need to learn how to do myself ![]()

If you buy a copy of Windows with hardware, you can get an OEM licence, which is cheaper... |
But I also wonder if this kind of thing will be the push some people need to become Switchers. The Mac Mini's just been released.......

It's worth it! (even if you find you just scribble all over the canvas for fun) |
![]() Also, Painter is the only program I can think of that supports the tilt feature on wacoms well.... hold your stylus at an angle and use a spraypaint tool, and it's just the same as if you were holding an airbrush at an angle.... What kind of Wacom do you have anyways? (Intuos, Graphire ? ) (restricted) |

I've had perfectly legitimate keys blocked before, as they've been distributed too much. I had a Windows XP that was a site licence, and allowed to be used by home users under the agreement with Microsoft. |
Install XP, try to do an update, and it tells me that I can't as my key has been blocked due to it being pirated. This was some two years ago.... As for the idea of people Switching... if people are fed up enough with the viruses / spyware / zombiness of their machines AND the fact that they can't patch it -- they will look at solutions. They might buy a copy of Windows -- but some users are going to be fed up with Windows too and look at alternatives. I hope they do, cause some competition for Microsoft is a GOOD THING. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
