Well, search SourceForge or something, I guess.

My concern though is that if you were to find something that displays a full tree of your computer, all folders, subfolders, etc laid out, it wouldn't be any easier to use that than it would be to do it the "hard way", simply due to the sheer amount of information you would then be presented with and the computer's limitation in displaying it all without problems. I just think it'll get very, very messy. I know doing it to my machine would.

Now, if you didn't want to display the whole tree, but rather have a modified version of Windows Explorer that displayed folder sizes, that might be easier to work with... but I still don't know of anything.

Any Aussies here? I know that I used to know some but lately I'm not sure if I know many aussies here anymore.

Anyways, if there are any aussies here, what are you doing for Australia Day?

I'm just having a quiet day. I'm gonna watch some of the tennis. It's been good to see the Aussies doing well. I should also have a listen to the JJJ Hottest 100...

So... my question for the Aussies... what're you doing for Australia Day?

LOL... don't apologise -- if somebody "Aussie Aussie Aussie" 's, somebody HAS to reply with the obligatory Oy! Oy! Oy!

And now I'm watching the cricket. It's in Adelaide today, for the Australia Day 1 dayer....

We have these, they're called something else "super dooper" or something.

i haven't had one in years, but one would be good in this hot weather.

Hmm... I feel like I'm in your boat a bit. It comes and goes for me.

I work full time, I come home and do housework and cooking and the cleanup afterwards, I visit the forum, but I don't really seem to do much that that interests me. I loathe the bus ride home from work -- for some reason that ride is more painful than the one to work. I think it's because of the realisation that I'm not really coming home to much. That and the commuting itself takes so farking long that it eats up perfectly good time when I COULD be doing things!

I have a partner, but I don't see him much. He works, pretty well to the point of obsession. I've taken to buying bottles of Baileys' before I go home, and having a drink or two of an evening.

I wish I could recommend something though to make you feel better -- but if I could, I'd use the same advice to make my own life feel a little less empty.

I have noticed that when I try to take an interest in other stuff, that helps a bit, so I tend to now go to the anime/manga merchandise store a bit, so I can chat with the people there and see if there's any manga I want to buy. That keeps me amused for a little while, and I get along well with the people in the store. I've been considering finding out if there's an anime club or something I should join, for something to involve myself in -- but I'm too.... lazy.

Maybe find something like that you'd like to do? But yes, I know what you mean, I think I'm in the same boat....

Well, we are lucky that the staff here are willing to discuss these things with us and ask for our opinion.

There are a lot of forums where the staff will implement changes without asking or informing their users at all. There are even some where the staff reserve the right to ban whomever for any (or no) reason at any time.

We are lucky here that the staff do ask for our opinions.

But they can't please everybody all of the time, and any decision they make will upset at least SOMEBODY. I have no solution for that, sorry.

Microsoft are going to be limiting availability of patches to users of pirated versions of Windows. Soon apparently the only way you will be able to get an update is through the automated process, and even that might not last long.

Article at MSNBC
Article at Reuters

I wonder if there'll still be administrative updates for things or not... interesting. Oh well, my copies of Windows are legal.

Yes, it will suck for those people, and there are a LOT of people with pirated copies... I know that there are a lot of users in the home computing environment with dodgy copies of just about everything.

Course, if they are going to try to use this as a way of then selling legitimate copies of Windows, I hope that they are able to do so at a price that people can afford easily...

.. otherwise I dread that this may lead to more zombie boxes used by spammers / hackers to spam / DDoS people... simply because people can no longer patch their machines.

Ah yeah.... I'd be happy if Portalgraphics ported Open Canvas to Mac, but for now it's the sole reason I hang on to my P4 Windows machine.

If you haven't tried Painter though, I suggest you do. It doesn't take the same simple approach to things that OpenCanvas and Alias Sketchbook take -- in complexity, Painter is on par with (if not more complex than) Adobe Photoshop. Which is also why a few artists say it's too hard....

As for motion, I'm not sure what to suggest there... that's something I need to learn how to do myself

If you buy a copy of Windows with hardware, you can get an OEM licence, which is cheaper...

But I also wonder if this kind of thing will be the push some people need to become Switchers. The Mac Mini's just been released.......

It's worth it! (even if you find you just scribble all over the canvas for fun)

Also, Painter is the only program I can think of that supports the tilt feature on wacoms well.... hold your stylus at an angle and use a spraypaint tool, and it's just the same as if you were holding an airbrush at an angle....

What kind of Wacom do you have anyways? (Intuos, Graphire ? )

I've had perfectly legitimate keys blocked before, as they've been distributed too much. I had a Windows XP that was a site licence, and allowed to be used by home users under the agreement with Microsoft.

Install XP, try to do an update, and it tells me that I can't as my key has been blocked due to it being pirated.

This was some two years ago....

As for the idea of people Switching... if people are fed up enough with the viruses / spyware / zombiness of their machines AND the fact that they can't patch it -- they will look at solutions. They might buy a copy of Windows -- but some users are going to be fed up with Windows too and look at alternatives. I hope they do, cause some competition for Microsoft is a GOOD THING.
