Several popular BitTorrent listing sites have been taken down recently... Two major ones quite recently. Suprnova for example.

No real word on why that I've heard, although apparently a lawsuit was threatened.

Every time I get a response here, I'm blown away by how good at this you guys are. (And thanks again so much for all your help!!)

Here is that section at the moment, after a few edits.

To provide the best possible customer service, I ensure that my knowledge is kept up to date. I discuss the latest systems and practices in industry with other IT professionals, and I research current information through various media. I stay informed of current security issues, including recent virus alerts.

I am attentive and friendly at all times when assisting clients, and I do so in a calm and patient manner. This can sometimes be a challenge when clients are frustrated and demanding; however, I always approach these situations calmly.

Each call at the DECS Customer Support Centre is timed, which puts additional pressure on me to resolve problems within the time limit of 10 minutes. This requires me to know which questions to ask the client in order to be able to solve the problem quickly.

I'm trying to think how to fix that last sentence, and the time thing got me too, but I'm not sure how to rephrase it.

As for "Centre" vs "Center" -- I think "Centre" is the British / Australian spelling of the word. It is how the documents and stuff around here are all spelled too.

Another section I've written a bit for is this bit:

Proven ability to communicate at a high level (orally and written)

To which I have responded with:

In my role at the DECS Customer Support Centre, I am required to have a high level of communication skills. These skills are required to liaise effectively with clients, other analysts, and with external organisations such as EDS and IBM.

As the clients that call have varying levels of ability, it is important to tailor responses and solutions to the level of expertise of the client. This may mean that I need to explain computer terminology to some clients, where in other cases, this is not necessary.

Also at the Customer Support Centre, I have been involved in writing

Bleh, asdf is nowhere near as cool as qwerty.

And yeah, asdfjkl; were the first letters I learned when typing properly. You get to type all kinds of stupid stuff like "dad sad alas fads dads falls sass;" and ... frankly, that brings back scary typing lesson memories, so enough of that.

*points and screams* YOU!!!!!

Okay, I just wanted to do that.

Eh, the World forum is fun for a bit, but I'm not much of a debator, and frankly, politics outside of the tech world bores me senseless.

Post something that isn't about President Bush and I'll be very very happy. Despite how that forum appears, there's more to the world than that man....

I used to play an old typing tutor on the old black and white macs, but I didn't know how to type then, so I just mashed the keyboard really fast.

I didn't learn to type with any software though.... we had lessons on it in the first year of high school. Most of us didn't learn much at all, but I did. However, I didn't really use that knowledge much in school... a little when typing assignments and things. My typing speed was pretty slow, but I could do it.

Still, remembering my typing lessons still weirds me out. I remember having to read from the blue booklets the teacher gave us, and getting sooo frustrated trying to type any of the sentences quickly.

Thankfully, touchtyping has become a subconscious act now...

You *can* get spyware even if you're not careless, and even if you didn't download something that has spyware bundled with it. I'm not sure if they're all patched yet, but there were a few vulnerabilities that allowed drive-by downloads where things downloaded and installed with no user intervention....

But most the time, users are careless (or just don't know better). Half my clients at work click on any "OK" button that comes up, without questioning it or even reading it....

I like the blue a lot better than the Christmas one.... and yeah, Jesper hit the nail on the head as far as the green goes. The red is fine, the green is a bit too bright in contrast with it. Other than that, I like the layout, particularly in the blue.

I made my own Christmas layout..... Okay, so I was just lazy and I changed a picture in the old one....

Very very interesting. (I like worms. They piss me off but facinate me at the same time).

Current information at F-Secure. The worm isn't spreading anymore, courtesy of Google.

Quite an interesting worm.

Edit: Aw nuts, it didn't kill my "baleeeted" forum. Oh well, maybe next phpbb attacking worm will....

Posted on 12-23-04 02:57 AM, in Paint.NET -- free open source alternate to MS Paint Link
Oh, it was such a hard decision to make whether I should put this here or in Hardware Software...

Paint.net

Paint.NET is a free raster graphics program, kinda meant as a replacement to the existing MS Paint. It has Photoshop-esque features, such as layers, etc, and is basically a simple graphics editor.

It's free, and has an easy to use interface.

Has anybody used this software? I'm playing with it now, and it's certainly a crapload better than MS Paint!

If anybody's interested in a free, simple graphics app, this is pretty good. Much easier to use than the free, open source GIMP....

Having worked in schools, I have worked with a lot of teachers. When I was a student, I thought "overpaid". I thought that they did fuck all and just got big fat paychecks for torturing students.

Now I know how much they do get paid... and I know how much work they put in. They are definitely underpaid.

Teachers put in an unbelievable amount of work for their students, and I have not worked with a single teacher who doesn't place their students as Priority Number One. They are expected to work overtime with no pay, they mark work at home in unpaid time, and they take a hell of a lot of abuse from parents and students. Sometimes, teachers are even placed in danger with students that are violent and abusive, and they take it all with good humor.

I don't have what it takes to be a teacher. And I think that those that are teachers are amazing, and do a lot of really good work for less money than it's worth.

So the virus is all gone now?? (And what virus was it?)

Oh, and Rain -- cute Sora sprite. I ripped a stationary one of those from a screenshot (looks in blog -- holy crap a year ago yesterday) when I first found out about the GBA game, but it looks so cute in motion!! *heart bubbles*

You need to have .NET installed, and it tends to be an XP only thing too.

But it was still worth a mention. It's okay for a few basic things, the stuff that MS Paint sucked at....

Not to mention that if you're unlucky enough to work in a high school, you may find yourself being threatened or injured by students....

It isn't overly common, but I've seen it happen a few times, where a student has hit a teacher, or threatened one.

Having been support staff in a school, I've had kids yell at me and threaten me, and it's a little scary -- "kids" in high school are HUGE.

I didn't work at a behavioural school, but I worked at a school in a bad area. And we had knives and stuff too. Most the kids were fairly nice to me, but evern now and then there was a little shit that would threaten me....

And he's one of many people that hail from the Citadel that have been here on and off over the years. He doesn't need no steenkin' FAQ. But I vote we make him read it anyways just cause I said so. He can learn about uh.... those syndrome thingiees that I can't get. Or something.

I want something that makes my WORK a beautiful, ambient environment.

Beer just makes me want to take a nap under my desk. (Merry Christmas Eve Office Party, everybody!)

Eh, my thoughts on drugs are really fairly mixed and contradictory. On one hand, I don't want to tell anybody they shouldn't do something that they like. On the other, I look at people like my brother, who are fucking themselves over and making themselves sick, and I wish there was some way I could make them stop.
