Avatar: A pink rabbit I use at a lot of places (AIM, DeviantART; favicon on my site, etc, etc). Made the rabbit myself, meant to be semi-representative of my Tarale character.

Layout: Very simple pink pixel art created in MS Paint so that I didn't have no layout anymore. No real significance to it at all....

Another Square game we were screwed on is Final Fantasy Tactics. At least, it's never been released here in Australia anyways.

Eh, it gives me an excuse to emulate it then on my PC. I'd like to play the game, but there is no way I'm going to chip my PS2....

Bleh, I'm sure I thought I was on this road two years ago, but I'm still depressed and whatnot, after all that time, so I guess I have to try to make more of an effort or something.

Anyways, now that Ben and I have broken up (because he's an arsehole), I get a little more time to myself to tackle this problem (and I don't have a certain arsehole calling me "useless" all the time and compounding the problem)

So, I've booked an appointment with a hypnotherapist, who I will see on Tuesday. I'm terrified, but... I have to do SOMETHING.

I'm also starting to exercise more, just cause I've gained a shitload of weight recently and now I feel pretty bad about myself Course, I hate exercise, so I've bought myself a dance mat and game and I'm just bouncing around in the back shed trying to master the fugging game... (I have two left feet). works up a sweat though, and my legs are a little sore, so it must be doing some good

... I'm feeling a little better than I did this time last week. I can't tell if I've lost any weight or anything yet though, Mum's scales must be broken -- they insist I'm only 50kg! I haven't been THAT light since high school......

I'm still on my stupid medication (Zoloft) but me no thinkie that workie anymore. But I get side effects in droves.

Anyways, anybody else with a emotional disorder or such here, and what are you guys doing to try to get better?

Well, being the good little Eva-fan consumer whore I am, I just went out and bought the newly released Directors Cut DVD released in Australia. At the moment there is only one Directors' Cut DVD released, but apparently there will be a second one (I'm guessing with the final three episodes of NGE)

It is three of the late episodes of Evangelion, but they are slightly different from those that were released with the series, with a few bits added or changed (as things usually are with Director's Cuts... duh...) It also includes the original episodes as well, and an interview with the WETA workshop guys doing the Live Action film

Anyways, I was just wondering if anybody else has seen the Directors Cut?

The changes are interesting, that's for sure. It was interesting to see an effect in the series that was used in the final End of Evangelion film too. The battle with Rei (self-destruct) was interesting in particular, I thought, but I also liked the additional insight into Asuka and the NGE world in the other two episodes.

Anybody else seen it? Any thoughts?

EEEEEE!!

Eh, I've looked on the web for this, but I'm having trouble finding an answer. I'm not sure if anybody here would know either though, but I thought I'd post anyways *keeps fingers crossed*

Anyways, the problem seems to be that when I set up my machine to act with two monitors, my wacom tablet tries to map both of them. Pretty well unsucessfully. The calibration goes all out... it's fine if I want to use the Wacom as a mouse only, and press File menus and icons and such, but as soon as I place the pen to a canvas, it goes a little... like this:

(the x represents where I put the pen down. The # represents where the line ends up....)

x                                     #

Now, I've tried to calibrate the thing in the Wacom Tablet settings in Control Panel and tried to have it map only one of the monitors, but I can't seem to get it to do that. In fact, I seem to be able to make things worse, but not better.... o.o

I can't find anything to say that Wacom do or do not support Dual Monitor systems, but I can find that they suggest a fix for this being to get a second Wacom tablet

Bleh, anybody got any ideas?

(Speccies:

Win2k
1 GeForce2 -> Mitsubishi Diamond Pro monitor 17"
PCI Stealth3D Video --> Crappy generic 15" monitor)

Oh, and the problem occurs in all graphics software bar Photoshop.

It might be an older generation SSRI, but SSRI's in general are new generation anti depressants and the safest. But yeah, they do fuck all for me, except give me numerous side effects. Course, I can't seem to convince my doctor to let me try anything else anyways. The guy's pretty damned incompetent when it comes to depression, he just tells me to keep taking my medication, and that's it. I just thank my lucky stars I'm not on an MAOI antidepressant... those things have so many drug and food interatctions it's not funny.. you can't eat anything, or take anything, or you risk a psychotic episode

Well, I haven't lost any bloody weight yet from the exercise/dance game, but I have made my legs BLOODY sore! Shows how out of shape I am, I guess. I've been walking a little too, walking Mum's dogs and such. And TRYING to eat better, but... I spoke to Ben recently and he managed to make me feel pretty shit again, and I ate a bunch of "Sherbies" lollies afterwards.

I see the hypnotherapist tomorrow. I'm terrified. However, Mum would rather I see a hypnotherapist than a psychologist for some stupid reason (she reckons cause hypnotherapy will just "fix my subconscious" and psychology won't... Like everybody else I know, she just wants a quick fix.) But a psychologist scares me less. The idea of cognitive therapy makes more sense to me than the idea of hypnotherapy. But it may just be that I'm terrified of hypnosis.

Kasumi -- Yeah, I thought it was kinda a rip off when I found out it was only three episodes and a little extra footage, but when I think about it, I can't think of any other real way for them to present the additional stuff really.

As for them having only three episodes on the DVD, technically it's six.... 3x original footage; 3x directors cut episodes. Considering that they included the originals as well (for comparison, I guess) I don't think they could've fit the entirety of the directors' cuts on the ONE DVD...

Where it DOES annoy me is that now I have a redundant DVD in my original series collection.

Anyways, the changes in the directors' cut are certainly interesting and add a bit of insight into the Eva world. I was hoping it would resolve the longstanding "Who shot Ryouji Kaji?" mystery too, but... it didn't. But it bought up other questions....

As for Evangelion movies, there were two. "Death and Rebirth" which was more or less a rehash of the series packed into a movie, lots of fast cuts and switching between things, kinda a summary more than a film. And "End of Evangelion" which was a more "narrative" retelling of the end of the Evangelion series, after fans complained that the original ending sucked (more like "was not what they expected"). Anno provided them with the narrative that the fans requested in the film... but he didn't make it any more palatable than the original ending.

Well, hypnotherapy was interesting, but he didn't put me under hypnosis this time. He got some background info on me, and talked about stuff and said that next time, we'll start. o.o It was pretty interesting, he says that all the things that have happened in my 23 years of being on this earth have pretty well taught me to have a low opinion of myself, and thus the depression. My subconscious is also the reason I've been gaining weight (that and Zoloft messes up the metabolism)

As for me wanting to do hypnotherapy, I didn't, but my control freak mother insists.

The hypnotherapist thinks my control freak mother is part of the problem

Nah, apparently it happens to everybody with dual monitors, regardless of whether it's two cards, one dual head card, old cards, etc. Wacom's official solution: buy another Wacom and run dual wacoms and monitors! Expensive.

Plus, I can't afford a newer video card anyways, I'm unemployed and on disability benefit. I can barely afford to LIVE.

Bleh, there are mapping features, and I've tried to map the wacom properly, but nothing I do makes a dent. I can use the Wacom superbly as a mouse across both monitors, but not as a pen in Open Canvas or Alias Sketchbook Pro. In Photoshop, it's fine (but Photoshop makes sketches look crap) and in Painter it's a little iffy on pressure sensitivity, but I can tweak that.

Bleh, I'm back to one monitor at the moment anyways, as I can't get the box to work in Linux anyways right now, X has a severe dummy spit.

Right and Wrong are completely subjective things. Like everybody said. Opinions, of a sort, but usually influenced by society, or your parents, or laws or such.

What gets up MY nose when it comes to "right and wrong" is when people assume that everything legal is "right" or "moral" and everything illegal is also immoral.

Let's take, say... marijuana as an example. Now, here it is illegal. Decriminalised, but illegal to possess it, use it, trade it or grow it. Now, because it is illegal, people like... say, my mother (my mother is a good example of this, she sees things VERY black and white) also see pot smoking and such as immoral, or wrong.

I take a different view on it. Yes, it is illegal, but I certainly wouldn't say it's "wrong" for anybody to smoke it or such because it's illegal. I'd say that they were running a risk by doing so, but I don't think that there is anything wrong about smoking pot if that is what you want to do. You are not harming anybody else by doing so, are you?

Another thing that annoys me with "right and wrong" and laws, is when religious matters come into the mix. Like the whole debate about whether gay couples should be allowed to marry and such. But that's a whole other argument that's been done to death already.

Posted on 03-31-04 10:02 AM, in Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi! Link
Well, I just finished watching the first four episodes of this series. I gotta say, I like it.

It's by GAINAX, the people behind Neon Genesis Evangelion, Kare Kano, FLCL, Mahoromatic, etc, and it's pretty zany.

The plot revolves around a shopping arcade in Osaka, the Abenobashi Shopping Arcade. It is getting old and all the stores are closing down. On the four directions of the shopping arcade, there are stores with an animal statue that are said to protect the arcade from evil spirits, but three of the stores with those animals have closed, leaving only one left. And when the statue on the last store breaks, Abenobashi is left wide open to evil spirits, and things are no longer the same....

The plot is full of references to other anime series, video games, movies, etc, and it gets pretty silly after the Pelican Statue breaks, and the two main characters find themselves in different incarnations of the Abenobashi Shopping Arcade (first, a medieval RPG style world.... then outer space.... and then chinatown...!)

I'm not sure if it's QUITE as out-and-out WEIRD as say, FLCL, but it's very funny, and very silly.

Anybody else seen Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi?

Yep, Chiisana Inori. Very cute song, and pretty cute as a ringtone too.... only everybody hangs up before I get to have a good listen to it!

I also quite like Duvet from Serial Experiments Lain, but I think because I've heard it so much, the novelty has worn thin.

I wouldn't call it "complaining".

Sometimes people need to get things off their chest, and sometimes that includes bitching about things. Everybody needs an outlet for their feelings, bottling them up does no good at all.

If you think that they're just 'complaining' however, then don't read the posts.

Hate is a pretty strong word, and a very destructive emotion, and to tell the truth, I don't think I really hate anybody. There are people I dislike, and there are people that I do not get along with, but there is nobody I dislike strongly enough to call it "hate".

There are some blanket "pet-peeves" I have about people, but I couldn't call that hate either.

And I do not hate anybody because of race or sexual orientation, so I can't say I hate in that way either.

Conversely, I can't say that there are many people that I would use the word "love" for either. But it is a word I use a lot more than hate.

I don't know, as I'm an artist, and so I tend to try to draw my own stuff. I do art trades however (they draw something in return for me drawing something) and that's as far as I go with commissions.

If I were asked to do a commision, I would ask what was required and how detailed it needed to be. If you want somethig that's going to take me the greater part of a week to do; I'd probably want a little bit of money for it.

Just because the dictionary (particularly Dictionary.com, whose descriptions are always brief and lacking anyways) describes "hate" as "to dislike" doesn't mean that there isn't a difference between hate and dislike. There is a broad range of feelings of "dislike" and the dictionary does not explain where Hate fits on that scale, nor do I think it could accurately. However, it is a dramatic and extreme word, and in general, the word "hate" is used where the dislike is very strong.

I dislike eating raw carrot. But I wouldn't say I HATE eating raw carrot, I can eat it I just don't like it very much. That said, I HATE eating tomato, it makes me feel very sick and I throw up.

I dislike a girl at the Surf Club, because she is very mean to me, and quite unneccesarily so. But I do not hate her.

From another Dictionary (Merriam-Webster)

Main Entry: 1hate
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English hete; akin to Old High German haz hate, Greek kEdos care
1 a : intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury b : extreme dislike or antipathy : LOATHING (had a great hate of hard work)
2 : an object of hatred (a generation whose finest hate had been big business -- F. L. Paxson)

See, if somebody asked me to draw something for free, it'd take me a lot of convincing to do so.

It might be "just a picture" to some people, but to me, as the artist, it's a lot of time, effort, and work.

It can take me upwards of 7 hours to complete a reasonably simple picture; and it has taken me several days to complete some of my pictures. For somebody to expect that I give that work away for free would probably hurt and insult me.

I think the problem with putting a price on a commission is really working out what the artists' work is worth and what the customer is willing to pay.

The artist might full well think that the piece is absolutely marvellous, their magnum opus or some such, and think it's worth easily $100. The person buying it might go "nice eyes, I'll give you $10 for it".

The question is, how do you put a price on art that's fair to both?
