Saw this on Slashdot very recently, and it doesn't surprise me at all. Doesn't surprise me that it's been going on for a long time either.

The fact that Lexmark's printer drivers spy on you surprised me slightly more, but when I think about it, I don't know why I'm surprised at all.

Bleh, I miss the old HP printers.

I've heard good things about it and I want to see it, but I don't think it's still at cinemas. I'll see it when it's on DVD.

We already have programs and hardware that detect when you print or scan money, and some of these will just give you a warning, by sending you to a web page explaining that what you did was wrong. No doubt, the visit and the warning are logged by the Secret Service.

Thing is, you can print and scan money without it being counterfeiting..... (art project? marketing campaign?)

I'm worried where this so called "Trusted Computing" is going to take us... and if our machines are going to become tools for the FBI, Secret Service, RIAA, MPAA, etc...

The spyware company that was putting spyware on machines was, I believe, started or owned by a guy that was also a notorious spammer.

He was trying his hand at a new business model, it seems....

As already stated, there is no "best" distro, but there are ones that are particularly suited to some things.

Knoppix is an excellent distro to try if you want to have a look at Linux without doing anything to your HDD. It is a "live CD" distro, meaning it will boot and run straight from a CD. It's based on Debian, and comes with a KDE interface. (Or you can get Gnoppix, same thing, but with a Gnome interface).

If you want to have a play before taking the plunge, this is what I recommend. Plus, it has Frozen Bubble, and Frozen Bubble is great.

I use Fedora, but I use Debian's package management system. Apt-get is just too cool.

Well, it's good that you'd get compensated. I know of way too many services where they will charge you, regardless of the fact that the system was down.

Oh well, sorry to hear about your lack of Internet, and I'm glad to hear you have somewhere to leech from. Reminds me, I wonder how many people leech off the wireless at my house....

Personally, I have a fair bit of distaste for all of the Compaq / emachines / gateway / dell things out there, but then this is also cause I build my own systems and I know that I can build a hell of a lot better, a hell of a lot cheaper.

For absolute best value for money, you are best to consider building your own system, or having a system built for you by one of the smaller computer retailers. They can build a machine specific to your needs, and they will generally give you better quality at a price that doesn't include the "Compaq" brand label pricing.

But then, that's my $0.02, and like I said, I'm a system builder myself so I have a bias.

AOL in Australia remained "AOL", they just called it Australia Online.

And it SUCKED.

.... I wonder if they've died yet... their customer service was so appalling it wouldn't surprise me if they had little market....and besides, most users are more likely to try to support an Australian company than one from overseas.

I actually did like Love Hina, but you have to not take a lot of it seriously. Personally, I tended to dislike Ai Yori Aoshi, except for the first five episodes, which are stunningly gorgeous -- then I found the humor/fanservice to be more low brow than Love Hina from there on.

Love Hina is kinda cute. I ignored most the fan service, and instead focused on the story, which was kinda sweet.

Course, I found it harder to ignore the fanservice in Ai Yori Aoshi -- I think I stopped liking it when the blonde woman started feeling up all the other characters' breasts.

Yeah, I tend to find the process costly too, which is a deciding factor when I don't really have all that much money to spend.

Course, if I really really am interested in going to see the movie, I will go. But I like to buy things on DVD, and make my own popcorn, then I can watch them over and over!

My PC Desktop
My 12" iBook.

Not the best photography either, but then the light in here is kinda not good. (It's been stinking hot all day so all the blinds and curtains are closed, and no lights on cause they generate heat)

Posted on 12-04-04 05:14 PM, in What is the worst anime you have ever seen? And tell why. Link
There are a lot of anime that are destroyed for western audiences.

I hear that the Sailor Moon series is also decent in it's original uncut Japanese, as they don't cut out various things. In the American dub, they cut out the ending of an entire series, as the characters were crucified (and that's just not acceptable for an American audience, apparently)... they changed male characters into female characters so that there was no male x male love... etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if a LOT of series are destroyed for western audiences, particularly those that are going to be marketed towards children.....

Eh, as for Pokemon, I didn't watch much, but the animation was cute.

It got my race and gender pretty right. Horrible photo though, so not posting it here.

Put my other half's (also horrible) photo through the thing, and I got a higher intelligence rating than him.

But that could be cause he's pulling a stupid face.

EDIT: Anybody else notice that when you select "Gay Factor" from the drop down list above the men down the right hand side..... kwanting turns up at number 8...? (However, when you actually click on it, you get an entirely different story....)

EDIT EDIT (edit, edit) : Damn typos.

Hehe, you remind me a little of me. I have high tolerance for somebody my size and sex.... Of course, I haven't been drinking much lately though, so it's not what it once was, but it's still damned good.

I think I get it from my mother. She can drink too.... and she never gets hangovers (wheras I seldom get hangovers).

Hangovers suck, thankfully I don't get them much, I tend to only get them if I've been particularly stupid the night before. (ie, honoring "eating is cheating" rules, treating drinking like a competition, etc) The most I get is a slightly upset stomach, but I get that a lot of mornings anyways (that's usually a sleep deprivation thing with me), and it's easily fixed by eating.

My mum has never had a hangover, not once in 47 years. Not a headache, not an upset stomach, nothing.

I'm in the 80+ range normally.

However at the moment I am still experiencing wrist pains, and seeing a physio for it, and so I've taken my typing speed down a few notches in an effort to rest a little.

The pain sometimes forces typing speed down a fair whack too, but I try not to get so that it does....

I won't test myself at the moment, because I'm not willing to put my wrist through a typing test right now.... not till the pain is much more manageable. Maybe later though

I did it once, then got a coathanger, unbent it, and used it to open the lock in the way that Rydain described.

My other half has opened his door with packing straps before (as the coathanger didn't want to grab his lock very well)
