Camino's a bit different, and nowhere near as customisable. I like it, but I like Firefox a HELL of a lot more.

and yes, most things do run better with more RAM. The exception being my old Win98 box which actually ran worse... don't ask me why.

Yeah, I get blog spam too. Mostly now I'm just closing off comments on my older posts.

I just hate the idea of some bastard using my blog for their own ends.

The thing is, other than Firefox, OS X is quite efficient with memory.

I don't get any lag with Photoshop, or any other application, only Firefox. Thankfully, there haven't been any major problems since 0.9, like I said. That little doozy didn't work AT ALL, so I had to use Camino for a while. Firefox would lock up the machine until I force quit...

And yep, it's an apple, yaaay!

Both.

I need both to do what I like. Generally though, I'd prefer to use the Mac, for the same reasons I prefer to use Linux on my PC. The OS doesn't get in my way, it just facilitates whatever it is that I want to do. In Windows, the OS gets in the way from time to time.

If Windows weren't so easily hijacked by anything and everything, including legitimate applications, it wouldn't bother me as much, but generally it's not as good a user experience as my Mac or Linux are.

EDIT: If you want to see a good example of where Mac outshines the PC, have a play with Expos

No, no ventilation system. That would've been going TOO far.... as it would've affected a lot more than one or two classrooms. Once in the ventilation system of a school, it will affect whole buildings.

Well, today the wrist thing reached it's peak at work, with my muscles getting so sore I had to go home after I couldn't type with my left hand anymore.

Course, I tried to type with my right hand for a while first. I can type reasonably fast one handed, but nowhere near as fast as I type with both.... and definitely nowhere near as accurately.

I've been to the doctor, the doctor has xrayed and wants to see me tomorrow. Says to take the week off.

So uh... um... I'm at home for the rest of this week and it's only Tuesday today.

I've also noticed I'm #2 in today's thingiee, weeee... But I should be careful not to jar my wrist. It's okay on the ibook, like I said, but REALLY bad on my desktop machine.

I don't have one.

I just have these overgrown swellings on my chest. They just appeared one day when I was a teenager and then blew out to a massive size till I had to invest in a special kinda brace thing to wear for them and stuff. Weird.

Eh, I'm getting the occasional Poker spam in my blog. I delete them on sight, and then close the comments on the entry they targeted. Most of my blog is shut down, but there's apprently still one or two that they find....

Yup, that you can. And that is why I'm currently running Mozilla Spacelizard

There are some funny extensions out there. You can even put google ads into Firefox (like in Opera) if you are so inclined. (why?)

Gas prices (known as "Petrol" in Australia) have soared dramatically in recent years here. It's horrible.

I am so glad I don't have a car right at the moment, they're way too expensive to run.

ACCC Adelaide Petrol Prices

A while ago they were trying to find ways of stopping it from rising, but I think they've long since given up.

It's in Melbourne, it's a lane that was named to celebrate AC/DC recently

I still like the one that asked if I want to enlarge my DICCKY.

The word "diccky" makes me crack up laughing. It's so stupid.

Next in line for stupidity was the one where you had to buy something called Deer Antler Plus It enlarges, makes you harder, longer, more attractive to the opposite sex, causes you to release sex pheremones that make you irresistable, and is of course without side effects and completely natural, etc, etc, etc. Really.

A good example of Steampunk would be the anime series Trigun.

My iPod fell today, when I got off the bus, it got bumped off my hip and fell. It seems to be playing okay, but the corners got scratched.

Well, for the moment, I still have an MP3 player, and I hope that iPods can handle this abuse..... otherwise I may not much longer.

Posted on 10-26-04 07:38 PM, in Orwell's 1984 Link
In the last few months, I read George Orwell's 1984. And I very, very much enjoyed it.

I know a few other people who enjoy the book too, but I know that a lot of different people get different things out of the book. A lot of people really enjoy the very political content in the book, for example, while others do not.

So I was wondering, if you've read 1984, what was it that you liked best about the book?

What I liked best, is that it SCARED me. It scared me both in terms of the book, and then also in real life, in the way that we are monitored... perhaps not through telescreens, but still monitored.....

It's not often a book really scares me.

I like the political stuff, and I like the dark, cyberpunk feel of the book, but I gotta admit, what I liked best of all was the way it made me feel. Like I said, it scared me.

Who else has read the book. What did you like best?

Well, Win98 has problems managing 512MB or more, and a lot of older CPUs and motherboards can't cache more than x megabytes (my limit is 128MB), resulting in slower performance.

Yeah, I went up to 512MB. It's a known bug in Win98SE, there may have actually been a patch for it, but I can't remember. I remember looking it up and I thought there was a hotfix or something, but I decided to install WinXP instead.

I just know that within the hour, I was getting weirdness. ie, not enough memory to run AIM. Yes, AIM.

Weee....and I've noticed a dramatic improvement in expos

Some questions:

What do you want to do with your computer?
Is your current computer's performance hindering you?
If it is hindering you, in what way is it hindering you?

Whether you upgrade or buy a new computer really depends on what you want to do, and I guess what parts are available.

Considering that if you wanted to upgrade to a newer CPU, you'd need to upgrade your RAM, Motherboard, Power supply (comes with case, so just get a new case) etc as well, you pretty much may as well get a new PC.

However, if you just wanted to upgrade your RAM a little, it's probably worth it to see if you can just find some compatible RAM for your PC.
