Did anybody see the asteriod?

I didn't, I was sick and as a result too busy feeling sorry for myself curled up in bed. But I'm not even sure if it would've been visible from here either, for that matter....

Did anybody get a chance to have a look? Did you see it?

Okay, now I've gotten to see the whole thing, I'll ask this again.

Has anybody here seen Gainax's anime Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi ?

I've finally seen the whole thing, and have completed my box set. All in all, I found it to be a pretty enjoyable series, but in a weird kinda mood-swingy way (if that makes sense).

The series alternates between being very mellow and almost depressing, to very manic and fast paced and silly. I liked the silly bits more than the depressing bits.

All in all, it seemed to be another series by Gainax based around growing up... but with a lot of crazy stuff thrown in. Like Excel Saga, it is considered a Parody Anime, although apparently it isn't really much like Excel Saga otherwise.

I liked the Hollywood episode the best, with the various Terminator references and even a Back to the Future reference!!

So, who here has seen it, and what did you think of it? What was your favorite episode?

Thanks for posting that, and yes, I will read it when it's not 3.14am It's been driving me nuts, because I don't want to give preferences to the arseholes in our political system (ie, Family First, One Nation).

I've been interested in the Greens, and the Democrats, and I agree with you about wanting Latham to "be more better". I am fed up with Howard, (the lying, spamming bastard), and at the moment, just trying to get a better understanding of what my options *really* are, as at this stage. (ie, understanding the preferential system)

I'm in the seat of Boothby. The Liberal Candidate is Andrew Southcott, and the Labor Candidate is Chloe Fox (fun fact: Daughter of children's author Mem Fox!). It is considered a Safe Liberal seat.
2004 Federal Election: Boothby Electorate Profile

Once I suss out the Preferences, I should have a better idea of how to tackle that there list of names, too

Other than that I want Family First and One Nation to go away!!

Family First really ticked me off with this doozy (amongst other tidbits of theirs):
Family First acknowledges the role of parents in protecting children from harmful exposure to media. However Family First also acknowledges the difficulties even conscientious parents face in effectively carrying out this role in an age when media and internet are so pervasive. In the best interests of children, Government must take a more proactive role.

Family First will work to achieve Government commitment to establish a Mandatory Filtering Scheme at the ISP Server Level in this country. A combination of Government subsidy and industry contributions could be explored to fund set up of such a scheme. Whilst set up costs will be large at $45 million, Family First believes that this cost is justified for the protection of vulnerable children within our community.

Family First will propose that once set up, this scheme will be funded through a levy system so as to spread ongoing costs equitably amongst all end users. Family First expects this levy would be of the order of between $7 and $10 annually per end user.

DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!! Gawd, they remind me of that woman in the Simpsons (Reverend Lovejoy's wife). "Won't somebody please think of the children!?"

Family First Policy Statement on Internet Pornography and Children (warning, PDF doc).

I say, FUCK the children....(no, not literally).

I like offensive content, dammit!! (not so big on the pr0n, but I'll defend other people's right to the stuff....)

I tend to avoid DELL computers, because amongst other things, they are restrictive.

The DEL key is standard for most BIOSes, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that DELL have, in their infinite wisdom come up with a different way of doing things.

In the first seconds of booting, does it give you any indications of what you should be doing? Pressing F1, perhaps, or anything weird like that? They might refer to 'Setup' as something else... who knows with a DELL....

You might need to consult a DELL manual, or ask another unlucky sod with a DELL.

Come to think of it, the only thing I can really help you with that's DELL specific is advice on how big a sledgehammer to use when destroying the thing and sending it back to the hell from whence it came!

I have a fast connection too, and yeah, things lag a bit for me sometimes.

This is one of the reasons I don't really like layouts that much. Sure, I have one, but generally, from an Administrative point of view, they are such a pain in the arse.

You will always have users that will complain that layouts take too long to download, and you will always have users that will have and like larger layouts as well.

And from an Administrative point of view, you will never be able to reach some kind of happy equilibrium, because any restrictions you put into place will be "too restrictive" for a lot of users.

You can't please everyone.

Still, I'll see if my next layout can have an even smaller footprint than this one. I enjoy a challenge....

I wouldn't even pay the $10. I can get comparable hardware anytime I like for free -- and it won't be a Dell.

I've managed to get my hands on hardware ranging from 386's to Pentium 3's for free. It's amazing the kind of things that idiots just give away.

Carrot Kimono (link goes to DeviantART).

Well, it's been a long time since I've drawn Tarale (my bunnygirl) but I did a little sketching today, and came up with this.

It's Tarale in a little carrot and cherry blossom patterned kimono!! I think I like the kimono best in this pic....

I might actually make this pic into a layout a bit later, just not sure how to go about it right at the moment

I'm thinking I'll use CSS, and have the bamboo as the background.... I can draw a bit more of that if I need to.

Probably just add Tarale to the inner CSS textbox It'll be pretty plain if I do do it anyways, pretty well because I'm too lazy to nut out a more complex layout.

Well, I made a new layout, but I think mine's actually larger than the last one. Oh well, it was worth a try anyways.

As for PNG's, they're good, but they're often pretty big too. Depending on what I need to do, I use either JPG or GIF.

I tried this picture out in JPG, GIF and PNG and high quality JPEG was smaller than the others with better quality.

Well, I thought about the intervention stuff, but other than sending him off somewhere without contact with other people, that's not going to work -- his friends won't help him ditch the habit. They'll encourage him to smoke, drink, inhale, snort, inject, injest and otherwise take whatever they can!

And I have no faith in my brother's willpower.... if his mates are all telling him to do something, he'll do it.

Yeah, I usually set the compression ratios with my images, because I don't want to have images that are too large -- they're a pain in the arse for people on dialup and such. I periodically get to use dialup, so I know

Course, on the other hand, I'm usually damned fussy when it comes to quality with my images too -- particularly the ones that I have drawn myself. I don't spend up to 10 hours on a picture only to compress it badly and have it look like crap

Well, I'm giving it a test, and this current layout is hosted on there.

Hopefully the fact that this is stored on the same server as the board will mean that my layout will not cause anybody problems (other than perhaps the flaws in my own design, but let's hope not )

Seems to work well for me. Would like to see some information in the FAQ though

Eh, I just felt like making it smaller for some reason this time around.

Sometimes a smaller layout is good, besides it also puts text closer to the "optimal reading level" or whatever they call it -- apparently it's best to try to put writing in smaller columns as it's easier to read

And it's "text-align: left" at the moment with teh layout. Dunno why it wasn't working before, but it is now. Stupid CSS. *shakes fist at CSS*

A lot of people have mentioned "American Idiot". Now I admit, I've heard a bit of this, but I can't say it's really "great".

It has it's very catchy moments, yes, it's rather enjoyable to listen to, but.... it's nothing special. Am I missing something?

Still think that the John Butler Trio are good, oh how I wish I had the words to describe how good their stuff is. Their album is great. Course, I think I still prefer their previous album more, but then I'm more used to it -- it's like a pair of fuzzy warm slippers for me now.

Course, I don't think my Mum's that crafty.... Or rather "subtle". If she thought I was sleeping with my roommates, she'd be MUCH more blunt about it

Bleh, and I lie to my mother all the time.

You know, this has come up a lot of times before, I've even bought it up myself several times (in this very forum, I believe, and also once in General Chat.

Nothing has ever come of it.

What has annoyed me most though, is that while the opinion is generally largely favorable (with some exceptions) towards this idea, nothing has ever happened -- not even so much as an opinion from the staff on how they feel about this.

Which makes me feel like mentioning this kind of thing is kinda like pissing in the wind.

Do the staff take these suggestions seriously, are they seriously considered? If so, why is it that we generally don't get feedback about these ideas? If this is something that the staff are opposed to, I'd like to find out their reasons for it, rather than having (yet another) thread about this slip into oblivion....

Just my $0.02.

For the most part on this board, things are okay, but every now and then -- I feel like a mushroom -- kept in the dark and fed a lot of bullshit.
