That's what makes the anxiety beforehand with me even more annoying and weird -- I know that the needle will not really hurt. It'll be a short, sharp little pain, nothing spectacular, and that's it.  (Unless they fuck it up, then it hurts a little more)I just hate the way that cause I KNOW there's pain coming (even if it is a little tiny bit of pain) my mind works it up into this BIG THING instead of the tiny little nothing it really is. | An Invisible Gorilla has won the Ig Nobel Prize.... and the validity of the claim that dropped food is safe to eat if it has been on the floor less than 5 seconds has also been tested.... and won an Health prize!! The Article at New Scientist The article also says that there were higher suicide rates in areas where Country Music was played on the radio... And they also think that fish may communicate by farting.... While most of the prizes sound silly, there is some real thought behind this stuff. But the 5 second rule one did make me giggle, as well as the fish one.  Read the article, it's interesting |

| See, the buildup changes for me too. If I know for a fact that the person giving the needle is very experienced, it isn't so worrying, cause I know they'll do it well. If I know that they're not so experienced, then it's a little more worrying. Because while they *might* do it well, they might *not* and it hurts a whole lot more when they don't do it well. I have had needles from young doctors before and they rate amongst the most painful ones I've had. Particularly one, where I was getting an IV -- as she fucked it up TWICE. She missed the vein twice, then decided to go for my other arm. Nurses give injections/etc more than doctors too, so I feel safer when a nurse is doing it than when a doctor is doing it. A really experienced nurse can make a needle -- LITERALLY -- painless!! |

| 6 days to go till we all have to vote. Is anybody here Australian or following the Australian elections that are coming up? I'm Australian, and unfortunately, I have to vote. I don't even know who I want to vote for at the moment, as I don't understand the whole preferences system. I know I don't like Howard/Liberal much at the moment, but Labor haven't exactly done anything to inspire confidence and such either. I'm closely looking at a lot of Independents and parties like the Greens and the Democrats. Course, I am also AVOIDING the Family First party, in light of some of the things they want to impose (ie, a "great firewall of Australia" designed to block out all pornography and offensive content) Bleh, any other Aussies out there? Are you finding this as much of a pain in the arse as I am? |

| Yeah, what was said above. Course, just cause it's a BIOS update doesn't mean the updated BIOS will necessarily suck any less than the current one. It will just be newer  But yeah, BIOS software is VERY specific. I don't think the hacking thing would work either, to tell the truth. Course, it would be kinda nice if you COULD change some BIOS'es. I worked with one yesterday that insisted on TALKING on boot up (A voice would boom that the PC is now starting from Operating System) and try as I might, I could not disable the stupid fucking thing....grrr... |

| Animals? Eh, in the walls it sounds a little unlikely, but possible, I guess. Old plumbing can be noisy too. At one place I lived, the plumbing would make loud thumping noises, at an old place I lived at, it would make quieter tapping noises. |

| Bleh, I am worried about my little brother. Not really news there, I'm always worried about my little brother... My brother is one of these people who I don't think is ever "straight". He is always under the influence of something. These somethings have included * alcohol * marijuana * speed * ecstacy * lsd * pseudoephedrine * little gas charge thingies (forget what the gas is) other hallucinogens, etc, etc, etc. He's been like this for years, hell almost a decade now. It started out with just the pot, and he's branched out into a bunch of other things since. I actually mentioned this to a doctor once, and the doctor said it sounded like he was self medicating -- that my brother is suffering depression or something of that matter, and he's medicating himself to deal with it. This sounds like a reasonable explanation, as he's been kinda messed up since Dad died and all. What's concerning me is that the "medicating" is getting progressively worse and worse. Every other day I find out yet another substance that my brother is abusing. I wouldn't mind so much if it was just pot and booze. Sure, it'd still be pretty bad, but it's a fuckload better than what he's doing to himself. What I want to know is... is there any way to convince somebody to cut down on the amount of substances abused? Convince him to seek help and maybe get him to slow down a little? I worry about my brother, but I worry equally that there appears to be no way for me to help him.  |

| He has a girlfriend, but she does drugs too. However, she seems to be more of a recreational user than he is -- but I don't think it matters, I doubt we'll be seeing her encouraging him to slow down any time soon. What bothers me most about my brother is that this is not "recreational drug use". What *I* do is recreational drug use -- I smoke sometimes, I drink on occasion, I understand this little thing we call moderation. My brother does this every single fucking day. It's not recreational, basically if he doesn't abuse something, he goes into various types of withdrawl (mostly psychological, but still). Being stoned doesn't give him a "buzz" like it'd give me. It's fucking normal and that's what really fucking freaks me out. I just want him to slow down!! Bleh, but I know full well that anything I say to him, isn't going to work. I've told him he should "slow down" a bit, not in a bossy kinda way, but more... well, after he told me how much stuff he abuses, I kinda just came out with "that's... really not good, dude, you know? You should probably slow down a little". Wishy-washy kinda prodding, but nothing more, cause I know that nothing else will work... and I doubt my pathetic prodding will either. Thing is, he has lost friends through drug abuse things. He's had friends kill themselves under the influence.... Bleh.... all I can really do about it is worry, and watch as he generates more and more health problems due to this. His heavy drinking has already messed up his stomach to the point where he can't have chocolate and caffeine and has to be careful with alcohol (which he isn't, he just avoids the alcohol that messes up his belly now -- spirits -- and sticks with the stuff that doesnt -- ie, beer). |

| I tend to be of the belief that you should always try to make a layout as small as possible, because layouts add up, and if they're really image intensive, they'll kill people on dialup or with slower PC's. I used to try to make all my layouts have an absolute MAXIMUM of 20k, but I was more often than not below that. I'm not sure what my current layout is, but I'd be surprised if it was very big. Course, when I managed my own Acmlmboard, we'd have people with layouts over 200k. Which sucks when there are several of these larger layouts in the one thread on the one page..... it's one of the reasons the Citadel eventually went away from using Acmlmboards. |

| Yiffy Kitten made a version of BadgerBadger crossed with Bananaphone? There's one out there by a guy called Lemonizer, which has the pitch of the original Bananaphone song up to 200% and has Badgers and stuff.... it also incorrectly translates the word "Phony" in the original song to "Pony" ("It ain't a pony") Look for Badgerphone on Google, that should bring that one up. Oh, and the live version of Kenya really does my head in. |

| Well, here it's always been referred to as the 5 second rule. But personally, I don't tend to eat much that's hit the floor, unless it's done so in my own home.... floors here are pretty clean |
