You didn't have a mascot? What were your sports teams called?

Uh... Wirreanda High School's soccer team?
Wirreanda High School's cricket team....

We didn't have a general mascot, but I think some of the teams had their own, which tended to change with the team itself also.

TV is okay, but generally I don't watch much except for a select few shows I adore, such as Scrubs. It's good as background noise the rest of the time.

If you only watch the shows you really like, it's actually pretty damned good. It's just getting harder and harder to find shows worth watching lately.

lol... that's... really.. hopeless.

I've been to a few parties with kegs, but generally we just used to buy cartons of beer instead. Then the next day I'd have to go around and clean up three cartons worth of beer bottles....

BINGO!

Now sure, some popular stuff will probably get drivers written for it, but then you have no idea of the quality of that driver, and there's no guarantee it will be updated if it had bugs in it or anything either....

All sounds pretty dodgy to me.

Well, I don't know if it's just different here (in South Australia). I really can't think of any schools with a mascot. Closest I can remember is my Primary School having a coat of arms...

Hmm.. we didn't have school dances at high school, but we did at Primary school. I seem to remember that I will always love you (from the Bodyguard soundtrack) was charting and that everybody danced to that.

I also remember that I couldn't dance very well so I opted not to.

Elmo -- yeah Kadaj's use of Materia was something I picked up on too.

I was wondering what magic spell that fancy *green* materia in his arm was going to do.... and the results didn't match up.

Yeah, it's very slow because it has to try to emulate the PowerPC architecture on Intel x86 hardware -- not an easy task. I haven't played with PearPC, but then I really don't see the point when I have a Mac.

Reminds me, I need to install VirtualPC to my Mac just to have a play with it. I imagine it will be maddeningly slow, but I dunno, I'm just curious to see for myself firsthand.

Just wait for the Intel Macs to be released, Snika -- apparently a feature of these will be that you can dual-boot them and run Windows if you want.

That would be much quicker than emulation or virtual machines of any sort.

I use virtual machines at work, and even on their native architecture it's pretty slow, I don't have high expectations of Virtual PC, *particularly* not for gaming. Hell, I can't even run Red Alert 2 in a VMware session on x86 hardware, it's too slow...

Writing is fine in Modern Art.

As for a critique -- well, more line breaks. I'm sorry, but it hurts my eyes to read large blocks of text on screen, and I'm sure other people aren't real fond of it either.

Break it up, make it easier to read.

Start seems a bit run on, could be cleaned up.

Sooo... we have 5 days..

I will give back the donations we have received and notify serverbeach we are shutting the machine down on the 24th of september

Uhm......

Does that mean we should not go ahead with this?

I am a little bit confused, but if I read this correctly, it means that we don't need donations for the board.

Which makes the purpose of this Auction.... well... yeah. :-/ In which case uhm.... well, I am still willing to sell artwork, but the money wouldn't go to the board, which was the motivation for most of you bidding in the first place.

Uh... yeah..

AFAIK, yes (and you can run other PowerPC OS's on current Macs too, btw... such as Yellow Dog Linux).

I remember reading a review of an x86 Developer Mac. The reviewers installed Windows XP to it and it ran fine. They tried to install Mac OS X Intel to a Dell and didn't have any luck though.

I would assume that you could dual boot the Mac with Windows... or Linux... or whatever. For some reason I have a feeling that it was suggested as a *feature* of the Intel Macs.

Of course, not being an Apple insider, I wouldn't know for sure, but this seems to be what I've heard from various sources, and it sounds interesting to me

And hell, if you can't dual-boot, at least the architecture will be x86 so running a virtual machine won't be as slow....

Hmm... but in all seriousness, we probably are going to have to trust this board to an admin other than Acmlm, at least for the time being.

From what I know, Ace doesn't seem to be interested in running/maintaining this board anymore. I would like to see him back, but if he doesn't well, that's his prerogative -- and it means that if we want the board to still be around, somebody else will need to step up and take responsibility.

I'd love for Ace to come back though, and have this place be "Acmlm's Board" in more than just name again....

Alias Sketchbook Pro refuses to work on my computer. It crashes whenever I load it, and I've tried downloading from a few different places already.
I'd like to be able to pull off this sort of sketchy thing without having to scan a drawing.

I'm not familiar with any alternatives off the top of my head, besides Painter. I'll see what I can find though.

Does Painter work on your machine? It's pretty resource intensive and just about kills my iBook, but I've done art in it before...

Yes, but that's because PearPC is a PPC-on-x86 emulator. That means for every PPC instruction it has to perform several (probably dozens or even hundreds) x86 instructions. With the new Macs being x86, we could use an x86-on-x86 emulator, which would be a hell of a lot faster because no interpretation is necessary (the CPU can execute the programs directly, only memory access and I/O need to be changed).

Yes, that's what I meant. I know that VM stuff generally isn't quick anyways (I work with VM sessions every day... they're a pain in the arse)

As for resources to run Mac's GUI -- yeah, it uses some. But what I find interesting about each version of OS X is that each new version runs *faster* on older hardware than the previous version -- even with more eyecandy in each version (ie, Expose in Panther, Dashboard in Tiger) I... can't say that for Windows.
