| Do you have a RAID Array on one (or more) of your machines at home? If so, what kind of RAID array do you have? We have a fileserver that currently has 2 200Gb HDD's in RAID 1, but we will eventually set up a RAID 5 configuration on this machine. (pending more hard drives and another RAID card...) My housemate also intends to RAID 0 his machine. (pending hard drive) Is your RAID hardware or software based? Ours is hardware based... I don't trust software based RAID. Multi voting enabled for those of you with multiple machines with RAID. |

Yeah, I'm going to agree that a fresh install is probably well worth looking into. You get a nice, happy clean install. I still recommend Ghost though -- create a Ghost Image after your fresh install, so you can always restore back to the crisp clean happy fresh install point WITHOUT having to actually be subjected to a reinstall ![]() I'm really not sure how to suggest the Ghost at the moment either for copy purposes. Do you have another machine? You could try to Network Ghost to another machine, but that will require you to create a boot disk for your machine specific to your NIC first, and install Ghost to both machines.... | You can buy Mac Parts from places other than Mac -- and install them -- without voiding the warranty. It helps if places are special Apple resellers though. ![]() But yeah, I in no way voided my warranty by buying an AirPort Extreme card from Next Byte and installing it myself... ditto with the additional RAM I installed. |

Norton Ghost is the only program that will "Ghost" things -- but that does not mean it's the only program that is able to create an Image of your setup for these purposes -- it just means it's the only one with the "Ghost" trademark. ![]() Other programs I have used to Image things include ImageCast, which was a Network based Imaging solution. PowerQuest (the guys who make Partition Magic) have an Imaging solution called DriveImage. Out of all the Imaging solutions I've used, Norton's Ghost is the one that I prefer, it being a very polished and easy to use (IMHO) product. Oh, and as far as I am aware, I don't think Ghost, ImageCast and DriveImage are compatible with each other, I think each has their own proprietary method and format of performing the similar function. ![]() (edited by Tarale on 09-02-05 01:21 AM) (edited by Tarale on 09-02-05 01:23 AM) |

| Well, I'm currently using an ATI video card and I find it to be fine. Previously I used to use nVidia cards, and I had no problem with them either -- but that said, I never bought an nVidia card so much as... an MSI card with an nVidia chipset. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Hell yeah there's a reason that people should have 21" monitors. ![]() I used to have one that big at a company I worked at where we had to display large documents on the screen. I have a 20" monitor ![]() |

| I used to do 1600x1200 on my 17". It was good, but nobody else in the house liked it so once my machine became the "shared' machine, it got dropped down to 1024x768. I can't remember what my resolution is on my 20" widescreen monitor... oh well. |

| My 17" was a graphics standards monitor a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro, but I can't remember what refresh rate I used to have it on. I do remember that I bought it specifically for it's graphics features. My 20" is a graphics standards monitor too, but then, it's an Apple.... I should borrow a graphics calibrator from work and calibrate it. |

| Well, I need to buy a car. I WAS saving up to buy something like a Nissan Silvia, or a Skyline, but it turns out I need a car a little more immediately than that -- those cost $6,000 upwards..... I have $800 saved. So I'm going to need to get something cheaper at least for the moment. I'm probably just going to get a cheap Mitsubishi Magna. Now, I've never bought a car myself before (I had an ex who kinda bought two cars for me though -- one of which I didn't want) so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing here. I'm a little scared I'm going to buy a lemon. I've looked in the trader, but.... I was just wondering, what kind of stuff do you look for when buying a car? What kinds of questions do you ask? I know this all sounds silly, but... meh, I don't know all that much about cars. Now, if I were buying a computer I'd feel more at home... ![]() |

| Well, I know I should be able to pick up a Mitsubishi Magna for anywhere between $500 and $900 from what I've been looking at so far. My housemate is pretty good with cars and he says that a Magna should be fairly decent as they're reliable, common (easy to get parts) and don't have a cult following (so the prices aren't unnecessarily inflated). I'm not hugely interested in a Magna per se, (In fact, I find them positively dull looking) but if it gets me from A to B, that's all I need. I've started swim training again, but in order to keep it up, I'll need to be able to get to the swim centre by 7am somehow, and then drive into work after.... so Taryn need car... any car good.. yes... Most of the Magnas I've seen have been private sales so far... all I'm looking for really is a decent, clean car, mechanically sound, automatic. I don't know what else I should be looking for... I can get the RAA to do a check on a car for a sum of money too.... |

| Well, I have a car. It's a Mitsubishi Magna. It's not spectacular, but then you don't get much for $700. It runs fine, it's clean, the radio works (but forgets which station you've set it to when you start the car). The CV joints need a little bit of help. Otherwise, it's all fine. Nice... cheap.. car. Pretty good for what I paid for it, will show you a photo later maybe (have to take one first) |

| I'm not really sure, but last I checked, very very few petrol stations here even sell Diesel, so I'm not sure if me getting a Diesel car is a good idea... And yeah, CV joints are not something to be taken lightly, but for a car of my type, it shouldn't be too expensive to fix either. And yeah, I didn't exactly want to buy such a cheap car either, but like I said I don't get much of a choice in the matter at the moment, I need car NOW, and it will take me another 4 months to save up for a decent one... So, this will do for the moment. I think I'll focus on my credit rating so I can get a loan. A person my age, with a permanent fulltime job on my salary -- should be able to get a loan for anything I want. Mmm... Subaru Impreza... ![]() |

Well, as most of you guys know, the board needs money for hosting, right? |
Just for fun, to provide a bit of incentive to donate, I thought it might be fun to have an Art Auction, with all the money going towards the board. For the top 3 bidders, I will draw 1 piece of 'commissioned' artwork. No hentai or guro or such, but pretty well whatever you'd like. The picture will be colored (unless you request otherwise), and I'll provide you with the source work for the file when done (ie, Photoshop and openCanvas files) in high resolution so that they can be printed if you like. Top 3 bidders only at the moment (as my average piece of art can take 10 or more hours to color alone). So, to recap:
Examples of my artwork include this layout, and all of the stuff on my website (under construction) So, ladies and gentlemen, start your bidding. ![]() (restricted) |
