| GAH!! I start a new job on Monday. I'll be working in a Help Desk for the education department, in the city. I'm really looking forward to it. There's just one problem. Wednesday, I got a little bit of a sore throat, and by Wednesday night, I was headachey, dizzy and otherwise unwell. I thought it was a cold, but when I went to the Doctor yesterday (thursday), no such luck... I have tonsilitis! Aaarrgghh! Now I'm panicking cause I want to be well in time to start work... I'm on a course of antibiotics, but... eee.... *panic, worry* So, I was kinda wondering... anybody else here had tonsilitis? How do you rate my chances of being able to work in two and a half days' time? *panic, worry* |

| When I as about 15 or so, our computer died. I had been the last person using it, so that meant that it was my fault. After the computer had been looked at by a technician, it wasn't my fault at all -- the hard drive had simply failed, that's all. Mum still thinks it was my fault though ![]() |

| Eh, I'm on a laptop right now so I won't take that test. But three months ago I took an Australian Accredited test as part of work, and I got 87 Words A Minute with 99% accuracy. I have a certificate and all, which has to go with my application to the Education Department when I apply for jobs -- they refuse to acknowledge my computer skills without the accredited certificate with my typing speed. | |||

I don't think I need my tonsils out, and to tell the truth, the pain in my throat is not the worst thing about my tonsilitis -- what's getting to me is that it's making me feel dizzy and headachey. ![]() Two days to go. I can get better between now and then. I hope!! o.o |

| I can type faster than my test result when I'm typing from my mind, not from a sheet or whatever too, Jesper. Thing is, that's not the purpose of those tests. Half the purpose of the tests is to see how typists type from copy, as that was what typists pretty much had (and have) to do in businesses/workplaces. If you want to test yourself outside of the standardised test parameters (ie, no typing from copy) open Word, type madly for five minutes (have somebody time you, and make sure you have some kind of bullshit rant in your head at the time, because five minutes of "the quick brown fox..." doesn't count!) and then when the time is up, count how many words you got, and divide it by five. ![]() And I type loudly too, but it doesn't help that my keyboard is loud too. |

| I'm on abboxillin, I can't tell you how much though off the top of my head. I'll be on it for 10 days total... As for eating and drinking things, right at the moment, I LOVE Ice Cream! I eat it VERY slowly and let it slide very slowly down my throat. It's great... so soothing. ![]() |

I have had one nosebleed in my whole life, and it was in my sleep when I was little. It was a very little nosebleed though, only a little bit of blood on my pillow and that was it. ![]() Ben has nosebleeds in summer, due to the dry heat we get here. His bleed a LOT too. I know from my experiences with first aid in schools and such, that MOST nosebleeds stop very quickly after you get the person to sit down, put their head forward and pinch their nose. But with Ben, they keep on going and going! I have to apply a cold compress to the back of Ben's neck (and sometimes even his forehead) to get his to stop. ![]() His only ever happen in summer though, and only on really hot, dry days. |

| Okay, I like the chibi sketch the best for a number of reasons, one of them simply being the "feel" of the pic -- the paper and sketchiness gives it a kinda "warm" look to it, if that makes any sense. If I were you, I would think twice about CG'ing the sketch too, btw. What I tend to do with sketches that I really like though is fiddle with colors and stuff in Photoshop, maybe make it Sepia toned or such. The reason I do this is cause... well, some sketches are just better off being sketches! As that sketch stands, it has a lot of character and a nice warm feel to it. You may well lose that same atmosphere if you CG it.... Sure, you gain clean lines and bright colors, but often... at least in my experience... I wound up losing the "feel" of the picture too... o.oHeh, I'll stop rambling. All this from somebody who hasn't done much drawing in ages. ![]() |

| Like Jesper, I use several OS's, and I don't buy in to the idea that any one OS is "better" or "bulletproof", etc. I do however buy into the idea that some OS's are "better" for certain people, or for certain tasks.... The OS's I use are as follows:
There is no "best" OS -- any single OS (or distro) that is better than the others. There IS a "best" OS (or distro) for a particular person, or for a particular task. If you like Windows, and you are most comfortable with it then it's most likely the "best" OS for you. But don't senselessly bash the other OS's because of that, particularly if you haven't tried them! It just makes you look like... some kind of OS.. Racist.... ("racist"? hmm... "OS-ist"?... nah, er.. "bigot" ? bleh.... um "fuckwit". Yeah, I like that. "fuckwit".) Spread the OS love, people! ![]() |

| I've been banned at other boards, I've never been banned at the ones that "matter" though. I've been banned at boards for being a belligerant arsehole. I was doing so because the board itself had been a rip-off of a good friend of mine's.... furthermore, they'd made that person do all the hard work, then turned around and blatantly ripped off their work and tried to steal their userbase. I thought this was rude, so I was a belligerant arsehole, until I was banned. Then I was unbanned when they realised afterwards that I was right. ![]() |

| Okay, there are two excellent free programs, both already mentioned, that get rid of Spyware and are very good at doing so. These are Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware. Run together, these will remove just about everything. But it is very important to make sure that you have them both up to date before you begin to scan. I also think it's very important to prevent Spyware from getting onto your machine in the first place. One of the easy ways to prevent spyware from getting onto your machine is simply by not using Internet Explorer. At the moment, Internet Explorer is pretty much plagued by exploits. Microsoft are aware of this, and have announced that they will be releasing IE 7 (before the release of Longhorn) in an attempt to resolve some of the security problems, but until then, you are best to avoid IE and IE based browsers. I strongly recommend using a browser that is not based on MSIE. Examples include Mozilla, it's little brother, Mozilla Firefox (both free, Open Source projects) or the Proprietary Opera browser. Because these are not based on IE, they are not susceptible to the exploits that IE is and they will prevent the vast majority of spyware from gaining access to your PC. They also come with tools to allow you to block spyware Cookies, so you can effectively eliminate much more spyware material from even touching your PC. As for the fact you mentioned that it seems to hijack your browser, run Hijack This, it will spit out a log -- do not act upon it unless you know what you are doing though. There is a tutorial on the log here Hope this helps. |

| FYI, there is a "critical security hole" in AOL Instant Messenger. Seeing as so many people here are AIM users, I thought I would pass this on so that you know. There is an news article here: AOL IM "Away" message flaw deemed critical and a more specific outline of the problem here: iDEFENSE: I'm sure most of you use an alternate IM client (ie, Trillian, gAIM, Adium, etc) but for those who are using AOL's AIM client, this is for you. You guys will have to either switch to a different AIM client, or upgrade to the most recent beta available from the AIM site. Enjoy. |

| You need this file, don't delete it. Check if a shortcut to it is in: Start > Program Files > Startup. If it is there, just remove the shortcut and it won't pop up anymore. OR Check the "msconfig" file and see if it is in there (as per HyperHacker's suggestion: note that this won't work in Windows 2000) and see if it configured in there to run on startup. OR Check the Registry Just don't delete the actual file, or your computer will die a horrible horrible death! Or something... just.. don't delete it, it's important. |

True, but they don't usually announce the danged things a whole lot. Still, thought it would be fair to warn those that are using AIM. Which incidentally, is not me. |

Truth be told, I don't use Firefox for the spyware-prevention features -- that's extra. I use Firefox for the features like Tabbed Browsing (which I now cannot live without) ![]() I only discovered that Opera/Firefox etc, were causing me to have less spyware months after I started using it. Not that I ever got much spyware using IE, but I got FAR less using alternate browsers! ![]() As for the spyware, did you run Hijack This? And if so, could you post the log here, maybe we can help if we see the log ![]() Good luck with the spyware, hope you don't have to reformat. ![]() (edited by ChibiTaryn on 08-11-04 10:02 PM) |
