Hmm, but I did re-seat the card (and the RAM too, for good measure) and it didn't help.

However, when I switched video card with my housemate, then switched back, it was fine o.o

I think my videocard is evil

Hm... it isn't messing up anything in my version of Firefox o.o

Looks pretty good to me.

For some reason though I actually like it better the way you've put it in your current layout (ie, the whole thing framed by a darker border)

I'm pretty sure we'll get a lot of similar responses to this, but anyways -- I was just wondering what your most hated computer task is?

Mine would have to be the following:

Backup - Format - Reinstall **with no driver CD's supplied**

Backing up somebody else's data is fiddly, cause you can never really be sure where they've put it all or if you've gotten everything (it's hard enough backing up my OWN data sometimes, I put stuff everywhere). Inevitably something gets lost forever and you just have to hope it wasn't important.

Formatting and Reinstalling is fine -- until you get to the part where you need the drivers, and assuming all goes well (like the computer will boot from the installation CD, for starters). Most of the installation process more or less sorts itself out -- it's the bit where the obscure video driver you downloaded doesn't work properly, etc, that drives me nuts. Or when you can't even FIND the bloody drivers in the first place

Course, once I'm done, I make DAMNED sure to Ghost the bloody thing right after it's all set up, so I don't have to do it again!

So, what is your most hated computer task?

Death concerns me from time to time. I've lost a lot of family members and stuff, which kinda shook me into paying attention to this "death" thing, and every now and then I get mildly freaked.

But it doesn't matter, it'll happen to everybody. To me, to you, to all of us.

As the song goes...

Do you realise
That everyone you know some day will die
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes
Let them know you realise that life moves fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realise the sun doesn't go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round.

I've seen sub forums in action before, and sometimes they can be handy and sometimes they're just confusing.

Every now and then I've wondered if it'd be a good idea to have subforums here or not. For example, a subforum under Modern Art specifically for layout design / request / help... but I wonder if it's really necessary considering we don't get too many posts in Modern Art anyways. *shrugs*

So, I guess it's not really needed.

It's from the song Do You Realise by the Flaming Lips. Get the song, it's on their album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. The lyrics alone do not do the song justice.

I have had some sushi, and it was nice, although I couldn't tell you what type of sushi I had.

One day I want to go to a Japanese restaurant and try some more Japanese food. I only know of two in Adelaide though, one is called Teppanyaki (and has at times been advertised heavily), and the other I don't know about at all. :-/

I'm going to second the recommendation away from Yahoo! Messenger's official client.

I don't like ANY of the Official clients much, and prefer to use an alternative where possible.

neotransotaku's already mentioned Gaim and Trillian, both are very good. A very light IM client is also Miranda IM.

Gaim will work on Linux and Windows too.

As for me, I almost exclusively use Adium and I wish that clients on Windows were as pretty

Yeah, I hate being FORCED to reboot. And I was hoping that Apple wouldn't do it to me as frequently as Windows does -- but OS X will force you to reboot after a software update too. No "do you want to reboot now? (yes, no)" just a straight choice between reboot or shut down.

I can't advise you on this, but this is likely to be a Hardware/Software question anyways.

Why does this site only allow you to view it for 2 hours? I'd have to assume that if they do something like that, there has to be a good reason...

Well, it's still screwy.

It's happening less than before though.

We're not sure if it's a heating/cooling issue, or a power supply issue.

I have my case open now and a small fan blowing on the video card, and it is certainly more stable that way, although it doesn't seem to be enough as it still played silly buggers earlier.

I am going to have to agree on the horse. Course, I wouldn't have the faintest idea what to suggest, other than looking at photos of horses (and chess pieces) to try to get something a little bit better.

Very cute -- but your art is always so small! (not that this is necessarily bad or anything)

Your coloring is very well done

Well, this is a picture I've been working on since April, on and off.

The character is "Kate" and she belongs to Chalosan. The character is a samurai, with a violent past. I thought it might be fun to draw a little of that dark past.

Linework would've taken me about 2 days, on and off tweaking of the original linework.

Coloring took around 17 hours, and was done in openCanvas.

I seldom work with colors this dark/muted, so this was a little bit of a challenge for me. I will not be correcting anything in this piece, it took me too long and I'm done with it now.

And for all those people who said "you'd never see Tarale drawing any blood or anything dark" (and yes, people HAVE said that on this forum), a big fat to you.

EDIT: And here it is on deviantart too for anybody who is interested. I posted it there last night, as I couldn't get to the board at that time (dns issue).

Video card is stable in other machines, and was stable with a slower processor.

This machine has recently been upgraded as far as processor and case goes. It now has an Athlon XP 3000+ in it. Case is very clean, it is brand new, all fans are very clean, they are either brand new or were cleaned before being installed. You could eat off the inside of my computer (but for fuck's sake, don't)

As for the fan I have on it, I meant "small" as far as personal fans (not computer fans) go. A desk fan.

I am wondering if maybe the power supply isn't coping with the faster processor AND the Radeon card. :-/

It's been stable as hell today and most of yesterday though o.o

I don't tend to watch all that much TV, although I have been watching more since my brother got Foxtel installed at home, and since I've been sick.

I watch lots of cartoons, particularly while I'm recovering at home....

I tend to watch:

* Whose Line is it Anyway?
* The Simpsons
* Futurama
* The Family Guy
* Invader Zim
* Dexter's Laboratory
* The Fairly Oddparents
* Ren and Stimpy
* Pizza
* The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
* Time Squad

Pizza in particular is compulsory Monday Night viewing.

I had a few cases when I was running a computer business where power supply has helped, but I've not come across this particular problem before. I do remember that every time I had an issue that was solved by a power supply, it was an AMD processor though oddly (thus making me slightly biased against AMD for some time)

As for the video, it's a Radeon 9700

Not worth it to overclock. You will need to install additional cooling, and frankly I don't think it's cost effective to do so.
