heh. well, I commend acmlm and anyone else who was working on getting the board/server up and running for the grand re-opening.

I didn't really care much about the big low-ID rush... I got 30, my old ID was 1108, so that's good enough for me.

anyhow, glad that this board can get a fresh start now.

heh, the first one looks like you were laying your head down while drawing it; like it's a 2D image held at an angle or such. the second one looks pretty nice.

my name is a saying/title in an artificial language which I've been developing on and off as a hobby over the past several years.

I stumbled upon what I later learned to be an FF1 ROM and an old version of NESticle one bright day in the middle of the night in 2000. took it from there.

well, when acmlm's CJB version of the board (an archived version of the old board) returns, this may prove to be an interesting read:

she's probably at work right now. she works at wal-mart, as either a cashier or at the courtesy desk (it varies from day to day).

heh, I'm 30. when I first registered at the old board (as zero soul), I was #1108. I didn't stick around long, though. later, I returned as Vystrix Nexoth, with ID 2400-something (like 2474 or something to that effect).

after the incident wherein Jesper accidentally deleted a good portion of the user data table, during the reconstruction thereafter, I requested that my account be moved to the 1108 ID, which was my "old" one then. and that was my ID when the old board died.

I figured it was a pretty low number. now I have #30, which while higher than my ID at the CGC boards (#26), is still quite low. it'll feel nice and neat to have it when this place is back into the four-digit user numbers.

I've been writing in straight HTML for years. not to say I've been good at it all this time, but I've gotten better and better. when, on a whim, I decided to give XHTML a shot, it marked an important evolutionary turn for me as a web developer, with greater emphasis on portability and syntactically-correct, standards-compliant coding.

PHP is a more recent endeavour, but my knowledge of HTML has been absolutely invaluable.

to get to the point (and back on-topic), I'm definetely the latter: I write up all my own stuff. I don't trust other people's code, and even if it's proper code, I don't know it and thus can't work with it.

well, it wasn't originally designed as a game per se. not like someone went "hmm... there seems to be a lack of games where you stick your hand(s) in a cow's ass". however, the idea to turn this into a game is just... bleh. of course, it's bound to be popular because it's just so unconventional.

(~500KB PNG, probably not worth the trouble if you're on dial-up)

not much, just a semi-cluttered desktop with a dreary wallpaper (rendered by myself in terragen) and the taskbar along the side instead of the bottom. the theme looks better with a window up, with the blue-so-dark-it's-almost-black to white gradient giving it a sleek look.

like so

with the netscape flash plugin, I can play flash in mozilla firebird just fine. in fact I have a plugin from somewhere that sets it up so that flash apps do not play automatically, but instead are shown as one big button, that when you click it, plays it. which I would consider equivelant to being able to allow/deny an ActiveX app to run.

another spiffy plugin I have for mozilla is called 'adblock'. it doesn't block pop-ups (mozilla itself does that just fine), but it *will* block images/flash/etc from whichever domains you'd like, including with wildcards. so I can go to sites like slashdot, rig it to disallow its ad banners, and booya.

plus certain programs (usually ISP drivers) can modify IE to change the titlebar to "{pagename} - Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by {ISP name}". it can't do that to mozilla. and mozilla has tabbed browsing, which is spiffy, and generally doesn't treat you like a n00b if you're not one.

in short, using mozilla plus a couple of plugins (such as adblock), it gives you control over what you're experiencing. and I know that when I eventually make the switch to Linux, I'll have the exact same browser available to me.

if you like IE more than Mozilla, then you either haven't tried it, or if you have and still like "Microsoft Internet" Explorer better, well, that's your loss AFAIC, and I- along with the numerous other users of mozilla- have little sympathy for you.

so, if you like IE better than mozilla... then why?

hah, well said.

and yeah, admittedly mozilla is a bit slow to start up (and also when it's been minimized and I've played a game of Q3 or UT, it's slow to be restored). but once i'ts up and running it's fine unless you have a rather slow computer, and then only doing menu things like managing bookmarks is somewhat slow.

besides, I'd rather wait for a competent browser to come up than have an incompetent one come up quickly.
