That's what I was thinking after I'd spent countless hours trying to figure out how I'm gonna learn 65816/65c816. Posting on other forums, and googling the hell out of any leads put me in a position where: I was going to have to learn 6502, install some linux emulator on my computer in order to run the only (dis)assembler for that machine language that I could find that would run on my non SP2 version of windows XP, THEN I could start learning 65816...

Then I stumble upon this HAVEN called Acmlm. Particularly this link here. Even more particularly the SNES ASM development program link (which works in XP!!!! XD!!)

As for my specs:
Age: 17 11/12
Sex: Yes ple.... I mean male
Location: Torrance, CA
Weight/height: 5'8"/148 LBS (should be 158, but I recently ran outta food/money for a while, got a little malnourished )
Occupation: IT (information technician) for the US coast guard (pending)
Ethnicity: Swedish/Canadian/other caucasian
Hobbies: Mathematics, mechanics, video games, martial arts, piano

I'm a programming/ROM hacking newbie (other than some save state hacking), but I know when to ask questions and when not to, I prefer to learn something on my own, it sticks better that way. Then again, I'm only human, so you'll be hearing from me =P.

Oh, last thing, don't worry, I read the FAQ already, so I don't get in any trouble on my first post .

From the looks of it so far, this definitely looks like the place I need to be, but I might not be all that frequent with the posting though. Like I said, I like to save my questions for emergencies.

Posted on 08-17-05 08:05 AM, in I need a place to start O_o Link
I'm trying to get a good understanding of the 65c816 (the operations, equations, behaviors, and the graphical aspects), and I've been searching long and hard for a place to start, but keep turning up in places that require previous assembly knowledge.

I already downloaded SNES ASM dev. kit, and I can tell this will be extremely helpful, but no examples, no samples, no "try it yourself" kinds of things, but definitely a great reference and (although buggy and not exactly perfect) a great program when I have a clue or two as to what I'm doing. I've also acquired zz-chr for graphical purposes (please tell me there's something a little better out there...) and I've been using XVI32 for my hex needs for a while now (most of my hacking experience lies in save state hacking, and that built in version of it in znes)

I do know:
•some basic assembly terminology ($, #, %; and tags like CLC and SBC, although I'm having trouble figuring out what they accomplish)
•hex and converting to/from decimal form, and I think enough binary to get me by
•historical basics (65816 is from the 6502, NES used th 6502, blah blah blah, motorola)
•that there's some way to import/export GIFs to and from ROMS (I just need to find it again)
•that I'm not gonna mess with music, that's just not my department

I don't know:
•How to trace (I'm not even be 100% if I know what that is)
•the purpose and results of tags a good majority of the three letter tags (SBC, CLC, etc)
•what in the HELL X and Y are for (in the sense of assembly)
•an XP compatable 65816 assembly program that isn't SNES specific, so i can tinker around with things**

**not a big priority

If there's like a walkthrough or something that covers these , and is interactive sort of like this, but with a lot more to it, I think that would be best. ( I did that afore mentioned tutorial, and it made sense to me, so I'm not completely stupid )

I read the stickies that I think would cover my questions before I bothered, but didn't see anything, and had a good look to see if any previous threads covered it either, and no such luck.

Any and all help is appreciated, and I apologize for bringing my n00bishness upon you like this.. Just please don't tell me I have to learn C++ and 6502 T_T.

sorta shy
I used to be a street vendor and a cashier, so I can be semi-social when I have to be.

I can't mingle, large enough groups of unfamiliar people freak me the hell out if I have to interact with them (it's a problem when I can't view them as objects anymore). I was the unofficial "head" of a sizeable group of people, a leader of outcasts if you will.

In the form of an analogy, on a football team I'm a hell of a teammate, but don't ask me to talk to reporters....

Until very recently I've been very isolated, I've literally gone about 6 days without talking (verbally, plenty of online communication) several times (it'd be 7 or more, but I see my girlfriend once a week). So I think my outwardness has been affected accordingly... I can barely form complete sentences sometimes now.

Well, I did make ithe name when I was like 13 or 14 (when "Owned!" was just still popular and I was very rarely online)

So, fair enough =P.

I don't think it's so much of a lack of confidence as it is sometimes a general distrust for people in general, or the fact that less people in your life means less obligation to others.

I'm borderline cocky and I know most people like me, it's just a matter of having to deal with them again. I'm referring to shyness around people you don't already know. That's totally different in my opinion.

I just think each person needs to find their own balance between being introverted and... whatever the opposite of introverted is. Either extreme is unhealthy.

Well, I was raised around criminals, salesmen, con men, (hell, my dad is a sales/conman) and manipulative people. I never said people shouldn't be trusted, I was saying I don't trust strangers, I have my own personal inhibitions from a background I've yet to manage to completely dissassociate from. Asking me to overcome that would be like telling a claustrophobic to just get over it. I'd work on it, but I actually enjoy just having a small circle of friends. Being outgoing in the social sense never really appealed to me, I've always found small talk to be rather pointless. Not even fun, really.

As for the obligations part, I was referring to people that befriend almost everyone they see, ignore that part on the level of acquaintences.

Anyhow, not being comfortable around new people isn't a direct correlation to confidence, as you seem to be so sure of. Yes, it's definitely one of the reasons, not mine, and not a lot of the people I know that are the same way.

I can speak to very large groups of people, I can converse with people I don't know without freaking out, and asking questions/answering questions from random people doesn't bother me in the slightest. What I'm getting at is I have a preference against warming up anyone and everyone. A preference against is not a fear.

Avoiding all the "shoulda woulda coulda" and comments on the hack, what happened to Shadow is like a cop pulling someone over for a modified muffler. Those are illegal, yes, but the only ones that'll pull you over for it are bored and in need of a power trip (that or the noise is actually creating a problem).

He screwed up, yeah, but he shouldn't have had the book thrown at him like that.
A warning would have been plenty sufficient.

(first off, sorry for bumping a topic this old)
I got a 4. Maybe because it's in my blood to redirect it all into rage. I figure you can wear that down fairly quickly with the right outlets, being depressed is a self-feeding cycle I don't want to mess with.

Then again, I'm at the point of where I have a fair amount of control of my adrenal glands, I think that's a bad sign considering the experience it takes to manage that (the "on" switch is a looot easier than the "off").

I'd have to say I'm the opposite of just about everyone here for the sleeping, I can sleep anywhere and under any sleepable conditions... even some unsleepable ones. Funny considering I'm a light sleeper.

•I'm terribly uncomfortable in public if I don't feel like I'm capable of fighting (in most places, if the security/area is good then nevermind)
•I scrape my scalp/teeth with my nails
•if I'm barefoot, my heels almost never touch the ground
•I feel awkward until I either finish a sandwich/soda, see it get finished, or see it get stored away (only if it's mine though)
•I arc and spiral my mouse movement in most cases, for accuracy I guess
•I invariably use the key combination "right, left, up, down" whenever I want to get my screensaver off
•I make a concious effort not to unevenly load/work either side of my body (this comes from weightlifing since I was like ten)
•I do that thing where you touch: thumb-index, thumb-middle finger, thum-ring finger, etc. when I'm bored
•I quietly say "spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch" before I leave the house, so I don't forget anything important (can't forget those testicles!)

Actually, with the right setup and permission from your ISP, you can indeed host things from your own computer. It's just a matter of the right software and hardware (I think you need hardware, I'm not 100% on that one).

And if you put it up on a bit torrent tracker, you are technically hosting it on your own computer, because it uses your (and other peers') bandwidth to transfer the file. But uh... I don't think a 1 or 2 meg (or probably even less) file really calls for either of these measures . Maaaybe if you had a package of them or something, or kept going over your bandwidth limit on your webhost.

Pronounced "sah-ghey", meaning "to lower", or something to that effect. Not particularly important.

What is important, is it's something entered into the email field of this anonomous-based image board called 4chan.org (and a few other sites, but I'm talking about this one right now ). Originally it was intended as a show of courtesy, in order to add something to a thread, and not bump it.

I don't know if this is a simple thing to program or not, totally not my department. Since there's no email field to speak of, maybe some kind of third button?
[submit post] [preview post] [submit unbumped post]

I can guess that this might bring some mild risk of spam, but I think it'd be nice to have so you can thank someone for answering a question while maintaining the courtesy of not bumping a thread that is no longer useful. I don't doubt there could be other uses that/benefits I can't think of at the moment.

I guess at least express whether or not you think you'd find this useful/beneficial. (I can't make a poll, I guess O_o)

I guess you're right, I'm not familiar with the personalities of people here, so I wasn't sure.

And I guess I just spent too much time on 4chan, where post count meant nothing.

I think even in the case where an unbumped post was specified like an edit, and didn't pc+1, it's still a little pointless for this board.

I guess I just hate bumping, I'll get over it.
