| So that's how you get the soundtrack this time? Spiffy. Although I do hope it's a full soundtrack, and not just a select few tracks. That would be bogus... | |||

| Muse is quite the Radiohead wannabe, but a good one. I've heard some stuff from their newest album and thought it was pretty neat. ...Not nearly as neat as Radiohead though. |

| Come on... Muse clearly wants to be Radiohead. Their sound is almost identical. That and "Creep" is a crap song. ;p It's no wonder Radiohead hates playing it. |

| I forgot how wonky this board can be sometimes, and how never to delete the first post in a thread...'cos the thread stays and ye author cannot reply. ;p Delete the useless thread. Back to Franz... Go buy their album. You might love yourself for it. I bought the album a couple weeks ago as friends of mine at the IGN Metal board have been raving about it. (Mind you, a lot of us listen to and discuss a lot more than just metal, therefore discussion about Franz Ferdinand is not so out of place.) Didn't ever put it in, 'cos I have tons of other new CDs to listen to. However, I was at a friend's, bored, we were watching some music videos, and I saw the video for "Take Me Out". Didn't see the very beginning so I didn't see who it was, but I was digging the song... Found out at the end that it's Franz Ferdinand! Later that night went home and listened to the album...and it kicks soooo, so much ass. The song "The Dark of the Matin (edited by Abnormal Freak on 07-19-04 01:52 PM) |

| Kasumi-Astra, that post has a tone about it that, quite frankly, makes me perceive you as............................ a bitch. Knock it off. What I said is, Muse has a sound that's definitely similar to Radiohead. And yes, they're inspired (heavily so, in my opinion) by their music (at least you acknowledge that). Do Muse specifically want to be Radiohead? Do they act in their shoes? No. What exactly is it you're trying to say? Muse is clearly a Radiohead rip-off band. They still make good music, and it doesn't take away their credibility. Are Radiohead perfect deities? No, I'm not even a huge fan of them. Are Muse better than Radiohead? No, Radiohead is clearly better. Has your negative opinion on Radiohead made you sour towards Radiohead fans (whimsical ones or not)? Yes, I would indeed say so. Take off the "bitch" attitude and put it in the closet. Better yet, take it out back and shoot it. It's unnecessary, and sickening. About the "artist" thing, being about making music and not about copying people... I don't know what your opinion of Nine Inch Nails is, but to me they're one of the greatest bands ever, and I hold The Downward Spiral in high regards (my favorite album, actually). Trent Reznor started out NIN to sort of copy other band's styles, musicians he admired. According to him, Pretty Hate Machine is full of it. I know personally that "Down in It" has the same drum patterns and guitar cues as Skinny Puppy's "Dig It", a near identical song except for the rapping. Come later on in NIN's history, the song "A Warm Place", a very beautiful and artful song, is nothing but a straight copy of David Bowie's "Crystal Japan", albeit a different beginning and better production values and sounds. It's still a lovely song (I love them both), and is no less great for me, knowing that it's basically a rip-off of another song. (I think of it as a remake. Trent allegedly subconsciously copied it anyway.) As for Hail to the Thief, I think it's a very good album. The songwriting is nowhere near as good as what they used to do, but I like the studio work and all of that. Never listened to Kid A... |

| "In essence, you proved me right that artists are influenced by a range of artists, and not just one" No shit. Never denied that. But there are also bands with strong similarities to others. haloblack was heavily inspired by NIN's PHM and Prince's Purple Rain, but has its own unique sound that is really nothing like either artists.I'm not a Muse expert and am really no fan of the band (haven't really sat down to listen to them much), but their similarities to Radiohead are too big to be ignored. I'm not saying they're carbon copies, but definitely can be compared to them if you ask me. As much as I love Gary Numan's Pure, I'll always liken it to Nine Inch Nails, even though it has its differences (its similarities are still so strong). But I see what you mean and I have no reason to really argue. Just don't flare up so badly next time. "The thing is, both bands developed at around the same time. . ." Didn't Radiohead form 8 years before Muse? And didn't Radiohead release 3 full length albums (including OK Computer) before Muse released its self-titled debut EP, with a full length coming out two years afterwards? | Heard a couple of songs... Horrible hardcore, man. Just awful... Saw a video and couldn't keep my eyes off the singer's bitch-tits, and how fucking retarded the other members looked, and my ears were very displeased with the horrid music and wretched vocals. That's how I feel about Atreyu. : |

| Evened out the vote...for now. I'm not big on Ozzy's solo career. Meanwhile, I really enjoy Rammstein. So there you go. Very odd pairing though...Ozzy and Rammstein. (edited by Abnormal Freak on 07-28-04 01:07 AM) (edited by Abnormal Freak on 07-28-04 05:08 PM) |

Originally posted by Kasumi-Astra Musically, Rammstein and Ozzy Osbourne just don't have much in common. Ozzy is this '80s metal thing with soaring guitars and such, while Rammstein is a sort of dance-techno metal thing. The music of both bands certainly don't sound alike. |

| Probably my favorite game soundtrack is Akira Yamaoka's Silent Hill 3. Although I like classic stuff too...like Castlevania, old school Mega Man, Actraiser, Star Fox (the SNES game, but none of the others), Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2, etc. Lots of great video game music around. The SNES was a great system for great games with excellent sounding music. Can't name many songs, though for Castlevania my favorite tune would probably have to be "Wicked Child". I've always had a big thing for it. |

| Superbuick and M3 are great albums, and the songs here are way better than the botched versions on XX. Now I need to track down their self-titled...and also get XIII. Apparently Tomas Haake (Meshuggah drummer) will do vocals for a track on the next album. Mushroomhead's old masks were killer. The newer ones are, too...but that demon head, that pig head, etc... All very cool. |

| Yes... I was turned off by the fact of it being directed by the guy who directed Dude, Where's My Car? (a horrible, awful, terrible, unamusing movie), but I've been reassured it's not like that--I've been told by one other that it IS witty and actually humorous. So...why not? I guess I'll see it soon. | |||

| I'd say Miss Machine is the best thing they've ever done. They've really eased down on the technical side of things, but musically this is without a doubt their best material yet. That and their current vocalist (Greg) is way better than Dimitri could ever hope to be. I think Greg does a better job with DEP than even Mike Patton did, and I adore Irony Is a Dead Scene. "Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants" is such a freakin' amazing song. Causes me to blow a mental load each and every time I hear it. The clean vocals on this album--this song especially--are done really, really well. Probably my favorite album of 2004 so far--better than efforts by Skinny Puppy, Capharnaum, Raunchy, Arsis, haloblack, Air, Einst (edited by Abnormal Freak on 08-04-04 03:20 PM) |
