Hmm~

I'm half Spanish, lived in England all my life, but I spend 5-6 weeks in Spain every year. I can understand spoken Spanish, but my reading is not anything special. I get by. Spoken, I'm fine, if I'd just be less shy.

English, mother tongue. 'nuff said.

French, I do in school, but we're going slower than I'd like. I could survive from Spanish, I guess.

German, I <333333333 very much, but again, too slow in lessons. Learnt quite a lot from Dad, but I'm nowhere near good enough to even survive on German forums.

Latin, I can understand from Spanish, again, and it is the third language I do in school. I don't mind it, but I didn't have the option of not doing it. It just seems pointless the way they teach it, because they don't try to relate it to the other languages we are doing, that would be useful. >

One older brother, 19. Five and a half year age gap, works quite well, I think. We used to really get on each other's nerves when I was 10 ish, but now he's left to uni, and we are really good friends when we do see each other.

Exactly. People should also see the limits they would see IRL though. Shame it's harder here, with no voice expression, or facial expression.

I guess I'm in a similar situation as you are. I started using Mandriva yesterday, after having tried to install/get into a few others before to see which one I preferred. I found Mandriva installed easily, and in the end, I thought "sod it" and went for this one again.

Gentoo, whilst I could install it, I couldn't seem to get GRUB working or something. It took absolutely bloody ages, and I couldn't connect it to the internet during, making it ridiculous. I gave up.

Ubuntu was too easy, on the other hand. Everything worked, and it was just odd. I didn't like it. SuSE refused to install on my SATA, so I gave up on it. I think I didn't do something I needed to there, but it just didn't detect it.

Erm, what else...? I tried a few others, but can't even remember their names. I think everyone finds different distros to their liking, but I think it's certainly worth trying out a few before you start using one for anything, so you get a bit of experience.

I'm running it dual-boot with Windows, and as soon as I get wireless running, I'll be moving into my own computer full time, and not have to use my mum's. yay.

Hyperhacker, I would suggest Mandriva, as it seems so easy to install, graphically, and without typing errors causing nastiness. I feel it feels different enough to Windows to make you feel like it's a change, and different, and like it's a bit of a challenge, but it's not so hard that you give up before you've even started. I found Ubuntu was just a windows clone, and I wasn't learning anything, but anyway.

One thing I will say, make sure you have an internet connection set up on the computer. It makes things so much easier to install, simply using the package manager of the distro, rather than downloading on another computer or on Windows, copying it over, working out how to ungzip, untarball, install it...
*isn't struggling to install a media player >.>;;*

gzip -dv file
tar -xvf file

is what I've used, by the way.

I've just started watching, at Thayer's behest, and yes, it is good. Abrasive is the way to describe the opening music, but I am a food slut, and that opening is mouthwatering.

I've no idea what the plot is as of yet, I'm in the middle of ep1. Best of all, you learn Japanese from these things~ Okite kudasai! ;p

I haven't actually seen a dub lately. From what I've seen subbed, they're good. Sure, you can't window hop as much, but you get the feeling in their voices, and you pick up some Japanese as you go along.

Mandriva is the most version of Mandrake. I think there was a merger or something.

There might be a smaller basic download where you then download later what programs you want, I don't know. It certainly is easy to use though. What are you after exactly, in a Linux distro?

My music teacher was ranting on the other week about a style of music in the first half of the C20. It involved "serialising" music, making a piece with sequences, that would have the sequence played 12 times, and would end once it was played in all 12 keys (ignoring relative keys.) It was later realised you could do the same with 12 different dymnamic levels, pppp to ffff or something silly. Same with rhythms, so you can end up with a sort of scientifically made piece. Wouldn't have creativity, but it would be "legal" music.

I used it once, but really, considering the limitations, it's just as good to use your own HD. I guess you could use it for hiding away personal files from other family members, but other than that...?

I learnt the hard way, in school. Never use it without strict safesearch at work or in school, as pretty much *any* search brings up semi-nude, at the very least, pictures, otherwise.
