I quite enjoy Koopa Troopa Beach, it's all-around a nice level. Kalamari Desert is also rather nice though, since the big open fields give a lot of opportunity to abuse Musrhooms and Red Shells.

[edit] How'd a '+' get in the thread title?

Question is, is there a RAM mirror of layer 3 (besides the status bar) or do we have to muck around in VRAM?

Good point. I generally use it for web browsing, some low-end games (ROMs mostly), and software development. I use Photoshop a lot though, and often like to mess around with N64 games on it (which barely works - graphic glitches, and forget having sound on). Plus I tend to have a lot of programs open at once (I've managed to fill up the taskbar a few times, vertically at 1280x1024), and a lot of mine use a good bit of graphic memory. (Map editors and the like.) On Win98 they won't even work with a 4MB card, but XP's able to manage the memory well enough to work around it. (BTW, I have Linux, Mandrake 9.1 to be specific, but I rarely use it because of hardware conflicts (or I just don't know how to get it online ). I usually use WinXP.)

Unless anyone has a better explanation. I thought I'd post this for people to report bugs in VB, and of course for those who are just going nuts over these 'features' to figure out WTF is wrong.

1) Add a scrollbar (horizontal or vertical). Set it to Disabled. Now click the form or another control, then try to click the scrollbar again. It won't respond! Even if you select it from the controls list, it doesn't respond to anything until you run the app and close it.

2) Add a picturebox and give it a height of say 250. Now change the form's scale mode to Pixel and try to do that again. It's a different height! Changing the form's scale mode to Pixel makes the Pictureboxes use a different measurement (close to Pixel) for Height and Width. (Really annoying if you don't know about it. )

I thought about it, but it relates more to the IDE software itself than to programming.

BTW case insensitivity isn't a bug, it's a feature, and it's how all programming languages should work.

58) Do NOT use cheats when testing your hack, unless it's to get through an already-tested area. If you cheat you don't get an idea of the real difficulty level. If you can't beat it without cheating, it's too hard, because people who haven't played it before won't know the levels which makes it 10 times harder.

59) NO GLITCHES! Intentional or not!

60) Don't just litter coins, powerups, and extra lives everywhere, but make sure you put some in.

61) Too many sprites makes things difficult, and can cause slowdown, glitches and crashing.

62) When taking screenshots make sure they don't say things like "State 0 loaded".

63) Forcing the player to die or lose powerups is a BIG no-no! (You'll notice Nintendo never does this in any game. It sucks.)

64) When people complain about something, no matter how cool you think it is, fix it! If everyone except you thinks you're wrong, you're probably wrong.

65) Long empty stretches are boring, especially on the overworld.

66) Give adequate time limits, if you use them. In general, take however long you take to finish the level, and add 100 to it.

Bleh, I hate it. There's nothing quite so annoying as having to remember not only the variable names, but also the capitalizaion. Then when you accidentally hit Caps Lock without noticing, you have to re-type it all. (And don't say "well don't accidentally hit it." YOU write 5000 lines of code without making any typos. ) Plus every now and then someone messes up a header file, and after hours of frustration you find out that 'SomeFunction' is really 'SomeFUnction'.

Eh, there's a word for that: busted.

My computer sets its clock back, but the rest of the clocks don't. I do think it's stupid, but I'd rather have the right time.
And there is a way you could be late, but... I don't feel like explaining it. Heh heh, suckers.

I set back my clock about a minute before Daylight Savings Time ended. I wanted to see what happened on that TV Listings channel, and I did. It screwed up on a blue screen, to a gray screen, followed by returning to normal with every channel listed twice, or even three times. It showed what was on now, and what was on an hour ago.

I shoulda watched that. Mine screws up all the time. Sometimes it just repeats channel 72 over and over without listing the shows, and a few times it would go through the channel list but not show what's on. I think their database program's messed up. Sometimes it stays like that for days.
If I put it on right after the power comes on, I can watch it start up. It's running OS/2. The music plays even while it's starting though, so I assume it runs through a different system.

Filesize? 24K for a VB program that creates a window, or 380K for a C program that does it? Just #include <windows.h> sends the filesize skyrocketing. It makes more sense to me to just tell it what functions you want, instead of including 850 useless ones just for the one you want. (You're right about the idea of storing the variable names in the binary being really stupid though. ) True, I love the basics C's syntax, but having to do everything manually can be a pain. If I'm going to do it that way, I want to do it with ASM, so that I don't have to deal with stupid limitations and pointers to pointers to integers and all that BS. After a few lines of 'someThing->WTF += bhCms(*&&otherThing.cooCoo,*$variable)' I just want to throw up. (Which is another problem, people write such horribly messy code in C, sometimes deliberately. Being able to write everything on one semi-colon-separated line, and crazy things like '#define function1(x) function2(x)' doesn't help. And before you say it, in the real world sometimes you have to edit other peoples' code.)

So what, someone used 'Metroid' as a name and Nintendo tried to shut them down? Hehe, I should start a porn site and have girls with names like Zelda and Samus. Maybe I can score a free system too. I'd probably ask for some prototype system, if that fell through I'd just get one of them Panasonic Gamecubes.
