Cool, but Kratos brings up some good points. Also, try adding diagonal lines to the stars, like an X over a +. (The lines on the + should be longer though.) Maybe even make them twinkle.

Hah. Bugs in Rockstar games are like flies at a manure processing plant. I seriously don't think they debug their games at all.

Hmm... You might have to move the ROM to a shorter path. I'll see if I can make the filename buffer bigger.

Most of the spam I get says I've won something I didn't enter, or someone I've never heard of in a foreign country wants me to hold several million dollars for them and I can keep some of it. Suuuuure. I got an interesting one today, though... Someone asking for programming tutorials, except it was supposedly a reply when I've never heard of them before. (I just deleted it, due to the fact that it's either a creative spammer trying to verify my address or someone too stupid to Google. )Originally posted by Tarale This is indeed an interesting phenomenon. I don't think I've ever heard of something like that happening before. Maybe you should post some pics so I can try to identify just what these 'growths' are? Could be cancer or something. |

Does it play videos? If so, then it might be worth having. Really, though, porn is the only use for something like that. Other than that, how often do you need to look at a picture right away or want to watch movies on a really small screen? I just wish the GBA had a better sound/video system, then I could just use it as an MP3/video player. I guess it'll probably be possible with the DS, but GBA SP is so much smaller. |

10 replies. *is scared* I predicted EXACTLY 10 replies. So I'm all moved in now, kinda hard to type with 1/6th gravity and a space suit though. *looks around* Oh, right, I was just sleeping over on the moon. I'm still in the same town, not too far from the old place. It's a nice house, a lot bigger. (I have my own room, yay! ) Heating kinda sucks though, it uses hot water so you get to listen to water running all night and the top floor gets REALLY hot. Haven't finished unpacking yet, so everything's a big mess. The cat's running around somewhere in a huge pile of boxes. She was certainly not happy being brought over here. First I had to bring her food and dish, so when I got them she though I was going to feed her. Then she's in a cage driving... She hates even being picked up, let alone being in a cage in a car. Never heard her whine so much. She's rather spooked now that she's in a place she doesn't recognize, but I'm sure she'll get used to it quickly. (At least we're all still with her. Plus, I did feed her when I got her here, so she wouldn't be too confused. ) So, some of the more observant people may have noticed that I'm posting 3 days before I said I'd be back. Hey, I sure as hell didn't expect it to work, but I plugged in the cable modem and poof, I'm online. They never actually disconnected the cable. I can watch TV too. Originally posted by Smallhacker Hmm, you've got a point there... I should add some manner of protection against that. |

Out of those, 6502. 65816 = 6502 with more instructions. Java is quite a pain in the ass with all the libraries and such, and C++... *shudder* If #include and string handling don't get you, the API will. Really, though, if you just want to learn any form of ASM, try Z80/Gameboy, and for general programming, VB6. (edited by HyperHacker on 10-30-04 01:36 AM) |

So, as you all know Christmas is coming. My dad's willing to spend around 100 bucks (Canadian of course) on a gift. (I'd ask for a video game or two, but those are both fun and Japanese. That's two strikes against them, as far as he's concerned. So I figure I'll get new computer stuff instead.) I also usually get around $80-$150 (usuall $100) from various cards. Since most of these items cost around $100, I ask that you select TWO unless it's particularly expensive. As for a breakdown of each: Hard Drive Currently at 15GB total (plus 3.6 Linux), 3 free, with compression, plus an old 3GB drive. Looking for at least 150GB, preferrably 200+. RAM 192MB at the moment. I have more but it's the wrong speed, not sure what speed it takes but probably slow. Video Card Incredibly sucky onboard Intel 4MB. Looking for around 128MB with decent 3D. (Some of my own programs are starting to exceed my video capabilities. Lucky WinXP does a pretty good job of making up for it, but that's pretty slow.) I'd also like an AV Out function so that I could use a TV as a second monitor for watching movies and such. (In addition to connecting a second monitor to the onboard card. ) Note: I DO NOT HAVE AN AGP PORT. Sound Card Mine's fine except that when I record from anything, it's horribly fuzzy. Even if I just use Sound Recorder to record the sound being played (as in no hardware connections at all) it comes out at a hideous quality even when the sound being played sounds fine. I'd like to fix that and possibly get one of those 3D Sound things. TV-In Card I'd really like to have one of these. Right now I have my TV next to my monitor but I don't think that's good for them and I'd like to free up the space. Plus being able to do things like have a TV window on the screen, and of course doing things that my TV can't do. (Who wouldn't want their "TV" to automatically turn the volume way up and put on the morning news at 8:00 AM, but only on the days they have to get up? ) USB Hard Drive Around 5GB or so, something I could install some programs (including Visual Studio Enterprise, if possible) and copy some files to and use them elsewhere. Needs to be fast of course. CPU I'd love to replace this piece of crap 800Mhz Celery with something that doesn't suck, but my motherboard probably won't support much in the way of new CPUs. (Anyone know how to make a Z80 run at 3Ghz, have 32 bit address and data buses, and wire it into a CPU slot? The hell with porting, I'd write my own damn BIOS and OS if it meant running them on a Z80. ) For reference, my incredibly shitty computer is am HP Pavillion XG843. (And just to add to the pain, it comes with WinME installed. Formatted that pretty quick. ) Yes, I know I should just get a new computer altogether, but that's more in the range of $1000 Canadian, a bit too much for Christmas. It has 3 PCI slots (one free), no AGP port, and some weird-ass proprietary floppy drive. (It uses a different cable. I can't hook up a different one, which sucks a lot because this one's slow, loud, and hogs CPU power. ) I live in Ontario so I'm looking at a very painful 15% tax, but my dad lives in Alberta with only 8%. He's not exactly computer-literate though, so he's likely to get the wrong thing... So, suggestions? Free money for me to buy a new computer? Pity? |

I wish instead of pain, you would just feel a sort of tingle. That'd make life a lot easier. You need to be able to tell when something hurts, but if it's something you need to do like getting a needle, it'd be nice if it wasn't actually painful.

omg totse I always thought it'd be fun to hide a dead fish or rotten egg in a locker or vent. And when I moved in here, there were two eggs in the fridge that we haven't got around to throwing out... Some kids flooded my school a while ago, but there wasn't much damage. They had to close off the bathroom and the one directly below it and repair the floor, since it started to get weak from water damage. |

Waking up 20 minutes late for school because you couldn't hear your alarm clock in the other room, then running across the house naked to shut it off. Then downing a glass of Vanilla Coke and not eating, and bolting off to school, still getting there early. Gives you a bit of a rush. |

First, they write the game. This was generally done in ASM on older platforms but usually C now. As the source code is complete with labels and comments, it can be split into multiple files and easily modified, unlike hacking the pre-compiled code. Next, they make all the resources (levels, graphics, sound etc) using their own editors. (Don't expect to get a copy.) The editors don't work with the pre-compiled ROM, they create/edit files from scratch, and each resource is stored in its own file. Finally, the compiler puts it all together into a big lump of hex. When you're hacking it, of course, you don't have the comments or labels of the original code (and if it's done in C, you really don't have the code at all, rather an ASM recreation), and all of the files are mashed together, so it's more difficult. Whereas Nintendo can just change the code, make the level bigger, even add something completely new in a manner of minutes and re-compile it, when you hack the ROM you need to adjust pointers, find free space, etc. Ideally, you'd want to disassemble it back to at least ASM with labels and comments (no direct address references at all, so that the code can be edited freely), with all resources separate. Then you'd have as much control over the game as they do. Of course, that's hard. |

Hardly new news... Hey, that enable code looks like a big chunk of ASM. I wonder if this slightly shorter version would work? Replace "F1000254 0000" with "F1000254 2400" Remove "F1000256 0000" Replace "81000210 0000" with "81000210 2400" Remove "81000212 0000" Changes some NOPs to the short version. Save two lines. |
