(Yes, I have a question, omg. And yes it's about a game but it's also hardware-related.) Well my Gamecube's power supply got melted a while ago by a nearby heater. I realized today that I have a universal AC adaptor that can put out the necessary voltage (doesn't mention amps), so I figured, why not? I crammed some thin nails into the PSU port (McGyver's Gamecube ), they stuck in solid. I then cranked it up to 12 volts and touched the connectors to the nails. The system turns on, but the light blinks very fast and it never actually starts up; it seems to just kinda turn on and off several times a second. Why would it be doing this? (And no, I'm not gonna keep it that way; if I can make it work I'ma rip the connector off the old PSU and use it. ) |

I found some info on what sounds like this virus... http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/israz.shtml http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/patch.asp http://www.dials.ru/english/inf/virus.php?id=191 Any ideas how you got it? It doesn't sound like any of these infect other files, but it could be some other virus too. You should be able to delete these files using a boot disk (Win95/98/ME) or the Recovery Console in a WinXP install CD (Win2K/NT/XP). If it shows up again though (and you know you didn't re-infect yourself), reformatting and reinstalling would be a damn good idea. |

Current is amps or watts? (Can never remember that. ) I know there's more than voltage involved (the adaptor didn't mention the rest), but I don't quite see how that could make it flash on and off like that. There was no clicking or such sounds. But there is good news. I found a spare cord, so I just cut the old one off the PSU, stuck this one on, and wrapped it with a LOT of electrical and duct tape (don't need them shorting or coming off ) and it works again. woot. |

The problem is simple: The game was designed on a slow computer and the lazy programmers just used cycle delays instead of timed ones. The result being that a faster computer plows through them and runs it too fast. The solution? Once you start the game, try opening the Task Manager, right-clicking it in the Processes tab, and setting the priority as low as possible. Running a lot of CPU-heavy apps (endlessly encrypting random strings in MD5'll help, I'll send you a program if you need one ) and using a lot of RAM will also slow it down. If nothing else you might need to get a patch, though depending on the game's hackability and popularity, you might only find one to increase the delay values (meaning you'd have this problem again if you upgraded). Or you might get lucky and find an official patch.

Mind control/other telekenesis, teleportation, walk through stuff, fly, control the elements, and of course stop time and only allow myself and anything I want to move.

That looks way cool, especially the title. And on an unrelated note this is thread 1000.

One time I was taking apart an old tape player and noticed I could pick up radio signals in it. All it really takes is a moveable or flimsy piece of metal bent into the right shape or cut to the right size.

It's at 1.01 now. *Rates him a 52* Whoops, 1.44. I rated Acmlm an 87 a while back. Was gonna do it to myself too but it wouldn't let me. |

It's simple enough; rip the ROM out, put a compatible Flash ROM/EEPROM/SRAM/PROM with the new game in. Not the easiest thing to actually do though, and ROM writers can be expensive. (And multicarts are much harder, unless the original's also one. I'd use a switch myself.)

SMA2 compatibility isn't done yet, so you're just looking at chunks of half-written code. (That's what he says anyway. (edited by HyperHacker on 03-27-04 07:00 PM) |

Do it again? Or maybe just rename all the registry keys, open LM, and compare them.

Originally posted by mvpo.geo It should just delete everything, then copy a backup of all the files your computer came with, so it'll be just like when you bought it. (So it'd be a good idea to back up whatever you want to keep on CD-RW or some such thing.) |

Why not Google all the files that sound suspicious? I've never heard of C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb05.exe, for example. A quick Google search shows this to be a rather common file that nobody has thought to be spyware, so it's likely clean.

I've smashed a few things with controllers before. I try not to destroy games tho. They can be sold or sacrificed for electronic projects. Though once when I got really, really pissed at my Gameshark, I took an old Interact SNES controller (that had already died) and smashed the hell out of it with a hammer. Fun! And then there was the time I accidentally stuck Super Mario Kart into it. Dead. Originally posted by Kitten Yiffer Bah. Ever drop a classic Gameboy? From a second-story window atop a very big hill? Them things are friggin tanks with cartridge slots. |

I don't think I have a copy of my first hack (crappy SMB graphic hack) but my first SMW hack is right here. (Yes, it says on the page it was done by pokemon hack or some such thing. Last time I send someone an IPS before submitting it to Zophar. ) It was a practice hack to help me learn LM, and I decided to release it. Basically it's the original SMW made about 16,777,215 times easier.

Well after about 3 days of coding, recoding, debugging, inspecting, reading, testing, swearing, smashing, and playing some Sonic (I fixed my Gamecube, w00t) I finally managed to both get Lunar Compress to read a Pokemon battle graphic and my code to draw it. There's still a problem though - it's all scrambled. I currently have image size hardcoded at 56x40 (Y size shouldn't matter), but it doesn't look so much mis-sized as just nutty. Above is the graphic, then the same inflated. It looks to me like the tiles are arranged wrong. (You can clearly see the tiles.) Is there somewhere in the ROM that defines the proper arrangement? Also, how do I tell the actual size? There's an image size-related byte in the stats that's set at 85. What's this supposed to mean exactly? |

Well I just made the resolution variable and have tried pretty much every X size from 1 to 100, it never comes out right. The Y size isn't an issue. Oh and any idea what each value in that byte means? |

Haha, I thought you meant some device by that name had fucked up gravity. (And had it been 2 days later I wouldn't have believed it, since it'd be April 1st in some places. ) Anyway... College? Nope. Grade 11. Essays? Occasionally. Right now? Java programs. |

11 actually. (stats.php + calculator, hehe.) Interestingly the Poll_Votes table has 1024 bytes of index... and nothing else. |
