Man, you guys are lucky! My school has 2 computer classes. In one you write really simple VB6 code and in the other you take apart an old broken computer and try to fix it. Yawn...

I installed the program, and tried to make a boot disk with it. Every time, it tells me there's not enough space. Well that's pretty odd, so I changed it to a directory on the HD. Well here's the problem: ntoskrnl.exe itself is 1.88MB! Even though it lets you have that on another disk, it doesn't help much when it's too big for a disk. How am I supposed to do this?

Well even an unformatted floppy can only hold up to 1.44MB, and they have to be bootable. Unless there's some sort of compression it's supposed to be applying... I made a copy of the file and deleted all the image resources (the startup screen and such) since they're not really necessary for this, but that only got it down to 1.85. I don't particularly want to use a whole CD for just that, and I don't have a USB bootstick. (I want one, but they're way expensive. ) You say you managed to boot Linux with NTFS support from a floppy? Where did you get that? Or if anyone knows where to get the programs for using RAM drives and decompressing CAB files in DOS (I think they're in C:\Windows\Command in Win98, should be extract.exe and something else), I might be able to just compress the file onto an empty disk and decompress it to a virtual drive. |

Yeah, I do. I actually managed to get it working via several old DOS tools I found. First, I zipped the files so that they would fit on disks. (Ntoskrnl.exe still takes up a whole disk, but it fits now. ) I found a program by the name of XMSDisk that creates a virtual drive in RAM. (Same idea as MS RAMDisk, but more flexible, and I was actually able to find it. ) I copied this (and some other cool programs I found) onto a Win98 boot disk and added it to autoexec.bat. So already I have a nice powerful boot disk with a 16MB virtual drive. Next I wrote a batch file that prompts to insert the two NTFSPro disks, copies the files to the virtual drive, and decompresses them. Voila, instant NTFS access in DOS! (I tested it, it does work. Even writing. FINALLY.) I also found a fun way to prevent people from using your floppy disks - make them too big to fit in the drive! The little hole across from the write access tab is perfect to put a mini-padlock in, and you can lock several disks together. With a small enough lock (mine just barely holds 3 disks, it could do more but they won't fit around the top), they won't separate far enough to cram one in, and even if you can, the lock prevents it from going all the way in. Not bad for a $1.50 security system, eh? |

Ever notice the pattern to it? The world's gonna end in 1988, then 1992, then 1996, then 2000, etc... I did hear something about the 26-million-year cycle though; supposedly our solar system does a complete orbit around something every 26 million years, and there's a 'photon belt' that goes around vertically, that we would pass through every 13 million years (going through both sides in one orbit). They say that when we pass into this belt, it'll either be daylight for 3 days or the sky will turn red, and no electronics will work. Personally I think it's a lotta BS, but if either of those happen, I'm going into hiding. So would we be able to see this asteroid any good with the naked eye or maybe binoculars? |

This is a really stupid setting in WinXP. By default, it's set to reboot whenever it hits a BSOD, which means when something like this happens your computer just reboots endlessly and you can't tell what's wrong. One way to get into Safe Mode is to shut the computer off while Windoze is starting; it's not good for it but it'll do. You might also want to try booting off the XP CD, going to the Recovery Console, and running ChkNTFS. This should fix any filesystem errors, which will cause this problem. (They're usually the result of being shut off while the HD is being written to, or a bad disk.)

Practically everyone knows what Inuyasha is here. Anyway... Back in a few months. [edit] Stops loading at 99%. That's really cruel. I need those sprites too. (edited by HyperHacker on 09-27-04 09:37 PM) |

I beat most of it within the first few days I got it, but it's certainly fun. Spoiler: I think I just have the Mirror Mode courses to go. I'm pretty sure I even finished Mushroom Cup in it. The All Cup Tour is awesome btw. It's a lot easier with 2 players, because you can do the grab attack (it's fun attacking Baby Mario using Waluigi - KICKING BABIES ) and better power slides. I have my brother on the back working the items and attacking passerby. Whenever I go into a turn, he just *tries to think of something to say that people won't turn into a sex joke* moves the control stick back and forth a lot. All I need to do is hold R and release it when the smoke changes colour. I can usually pull off 3-4 boosts on an average-size turn. (The grab attack is also useful for dodging stuff on the track.) |

It's generic. Error: [whatever's wrong]. Press F1 to continue. It is funny, though. |
I'd like to know what's up with Win95's "Cannot delete: not enough free disk space" message.

Well, it doesn't sound like I'm gonna find anything fast enough to do it that way anyway. But I thought of another way, and I already have all the parts! |
Basically what I do is just build a basic SRAM cart (hook an SRAM chip up to the ROM lines). I also need to build a cable to link between the PC (probably via parallel port since I have the required cables) and the GB's link port. Same idea really, but speed isn't a big problem. I've actually used a method like this before to run my own programs using Pok

I'd have to agree; 33hz is a horrible refresh rate, I wouldn't expect it to actually do that. |
