Monitors are weird like that. Mine used to have little horizontal lines jumping up and down, but they just disappeared as suddenly as they appeared. Never knew why. I guess in both cases it could be the cable... no good for me since the cable's stuck right on mine, but it hasn't happened for a while now anyway.

SMW's not much better in this regard.

...Why are there so many German Pokémon hackers anyway? And why do so few of them speak any decent amount of English? Don't mean to sound racist or anything but the proportions seem quite unbalanced.

Maybe I'm just paranoid but I wouldn't buy a car for less than $1000. The only things I ever see cheaper than that are $500 and clearly don't run.

Zer0wned: I knew a guy who bought a car out of the paper once. 10 years later, BAM! Herpes. </familyguy>

I'm not sure if anything else is even available here. The only ones I know of (besides dialup) are Cogeco (which I'm using), Bell, and Netscape (which is AOL rebranded).

I don't really play online games; the real reason I wanted to switch is for bandwidth. Cogeco's limits are pretty damn small, even for their most expensive package (30GB/month) which costs 20 bucks more than what I have (15GB). (15 may seem like a lot, but see, I use BitTorrent. A lot. ) Bell's service claims unlimited bandwidth and only costs 5 bucks more, so I wanted to know what peoples' experiences with it are.

There were some changes made to how the post backgrounds work. It should be fixed now, if that was the problem. Though other things seem to have changed as well; I had to tweak mine a bit too. And of course, some layouts just aren't compatible with the new themes for whatever reason. (Mine needs a white font, but silly me just assumed it would always be white... )

That probably wouldn't work but you'd use something along those lines. Though it'd be better to write a random password generator than just using rand() (harder to crack).

But if someone's forgetting their password that much, they should consider writing it down.

BTW, the memoruy mapper has to be checked, I tried changing level mode 0x0D into a horizontal level, but couldn't use anything above a low barrier, like the memory map was messed up bigtime. Changeing it back to a vertical level fixed the problem.

Mode 0D was designed to have a vertical level memory map, so it's no surprise that it wouldn't work horizontal.

Firstly, the level design is awesome in my opinion. Sure, it could be better, but I overall enjoyed it. Secondly, I enjoy Paratroopa chains. They seem easy to get past.

And lastly, I have a glitch report. In Piranha Island 1 (I still haven't beaten it...), if you jump out of the water on the right side of the diagnal pipe, this might happen:

You can easily get out, but you might want to work on it.

Heh, yeah, that happens if you let the player get in there. Hence why Nintendo put in those small pipes.

Hm... Sounds like SMB is just depending on memory being set a certain way when it starts up, instead of clearing the memory it's going to use beforehand, and Tennis uses the same piece of memory for something else. I can't see why hitting the game would be necessary at all.

'Tis what this thread is about. Funny and/or crazy things that happen to you.

When I go to bed, I find I have trouble convincing myself to get up, so I set 3 alarms. One being my DS, one being a clock 5 minutes later, and one being the computer 5 minutes after that (I use the command line 'at' program to start up Winamp with the Bananaphone song on repeat ). Well this morning, the DS's alarm went off, but I was still tired, so I just turned off the clock alarm, muted the computer, and went back to sleep for an hour. Now usually when I do this, it simply uses an existing instance of Winamp (which basically never gets closed) to play the song. But when I woke up and checked it out, it hadn't done that. Winamp was just sitting there stopped at the song I stopped it at last night. Well whatever. I go do stuff, then come back and use the computer a bit. Eventually I realize there's no sound, because it's still muted, so I un-mute it... "Bananaphone! ring ring ring!" Turns out it started a hidden second instance of Winamp and was playing the song while muted all day.

Alright, well I actually decided to play a hack for once, and so far I've finished world 1. I'm making some notes and screenshots as I go... SPOILERS AHEAD! Scroll with caution!

  • Your title screen pwns. But title music on the overworld?
  • Difficulty level is just a smidgen high. Mostly because the levels are very crowded (too many enemies) and there are way too many one-block jumps and bounce-off-Koopas stunts. It's certainly tolerable, but it does get frustrating. I found myself making a lot of save states, but only having to actually use them once or twice. (I do try to avoid it. I did lose a lot of lives, but I'm not the kind to save and reload every time I screw up. ) Of course it didn't help that I wasn't paying attention to the level names and played level 2 before level 1, and wound up thinking those big piranha plants were in the background (hey, shells don't phase them).
  • Noticed the lack of a time limit. Cool.

  • Bad coin placement. One of the golden rules of platformers is that if you don't know where to go, follow the trail of coins/rubies/bananas/whatever. When I was on that platform at the top, I couldn't see down, so I assumed it'd be safe to jump onto the coins. WRONG. Speaking of coins, I found a few invisible ones, was that intentional?

  • See that area circled in red? When I jumped down through it, I got hurt. I wasn't able to reproduce it though.

  • What is that thing, a bat? Whatever it is, it's very hard to see flying around, which makes for a lot of unexpected death. This area is kind of annoying as well... when you find a secret path in a platformer it's generally supposed to be like a bonus or something, like n 1-1 in SMB. This path, however, seemed designed to ensure my demise. Which it did.

  • This is a huge problem. In a previous level, those red things - which are supposed to be background objects, mind you - were FG objects and I could jump across them. I didn't have that kind of luck here, finding out the hard way that these ones are in the BG and can't be jumped on. I can only hope I won't see this sort of thing repeated.

  • Love how the egg says 'thanks man'. In the message, that 'to' shouldn't be there. The lava is just where Iggy belongs, not where he belongs to. That doesn't even make sense.

Overall I'd rate it a 7.5/10. Very good (the special effects in particular), but not such great level design (far from bad, just not really good). Of course, I have yet to play beyond the castle.

ASDF, I saw the yellow lines too, but they were green. I think it's a ZSnes bug. Some of them didn't show up in screenshots.

It means when 1.B was first installed, IE read certain attributes wrong and stretched layouts to ridiculous proportions.

This may come as a profound shock to some of you, but people are not obligated to give up their time and resources to help you. This is a hobby, and people are free to spend their time as they wish. To assume otherwise is, ironically, rather selfish.
