Could they really sue over a patch containing a small part of their code? I mean I've written games with a lot of similar if not identical code to commercial games. So yeah. I can't imagine anyone being sued over a patch that contains 32K of the code of a 2MB ROM. And if Nintendo cared about us using their graphics in hacks, they'd have done something by now.

The one I saw swapped big Mario with a Koopa and small Mario with a beetle. It was 150 lines though.

His version shouldn't cause any problems, it only changes the ASM code that gets put in the game. The actual block inserter program should be identical.

You should try looking for the existing function. The game translates the coin counter to a decimal value, you could probably hijack that code.

Though if you can find (or write) code to do division and modulus, writing such a function is way easy.

A 2000-player turn-based game. Awesome. You could just start the game, take your turn, go to school or work or whatever, come back, do the mingame, eat, go to bed, and repeat.
