The only thing nukes could possibly be good for is blowing up comets or something that are going to hit the Earth, and even that won't work on a lot of them. Many just shatter, and some can even absorb the blow. So they're essentially useless, because if anyone even tried to use them now, we'd all be screwed. I say get rid of them before someone goes nuts and bombs something. (Besides, a lot of them have probably expired by now.)

Two good ways to get rid of them: 1) Call a number that doesn't exist. Record that beeping sound it makes (use a good high-quality recorder; a tape probably won't work). Play that when you answer the phone. Automated dialers will assume the number is invalid and remove it! (Telezapper does this. ) 2) Just answer, and if it's a telemarketer just keep on talking "I can't come to the phone, leave a message, BEEP" and hang up. Though if you tell them to stop calling you and remove you from their list, they have to. And don't buy that "we just call random numbers" excuse. One, they can keep a list of who not to call, and two, nobody does that because they'd get tons of modems and invalid numbers. |

Alright, but how do I know what will work and what won't? Trying to compile printf() doesn't raise any errors.

Well, 'about a month ago' conincides with some major heat waves here. I imagine you had the fans and AC running a lot harder around then, so yeah, that's something to look at. You might get away with a battery backup system or a better surge protector.

Yep, Mcafee is a piece of crap. And that's why you generally leave room for your drink or put the cap on. A lot of things have those protection circuits, though, which is good. I've had several things (computer, N64, etc) just refuse to turn on, only to start working again later, when I did something bad to them. Ah yes, and let's not forget the time I replaced the floppy drive in my old 486. It was the first time I did any hardware work, so I didn't really know what to do. Easy enough to figure out, but I wound up plugging the hard disk in backward. This computer didn't have anything to protect it from that, so when I turned it on it just beeped like hell, garbage on the screen, all sorts of crap. It worked fine when I reconnected it, but since it was way old the HD eventually just died anyway. (It kept asking me to insert a disk in drive C. ) |

Holy frack, that's completely insane. So I could load that movie into either ROM and it'd beat the game? Even with save states, that's just mind-blowing. Of course, it's easy to do if you just pause one game while you play the other. You'd still be using the same input for both. |

Hot console-on-console action. DC you can just burn an emu to CDR (not sure about RW) and play it, if you get the right bootcode. I don't really know how it all works, but there's some backdoor that lets you boot it without a mod. The new slim PS2s, you can use a swap trick on. Old ones you'll need a mod for, though I think if you can find someone else with a modded system, you can use it to put a program on your memory card which acts as a softmod. XBox, you can softmod, but then you can't use Live. A real modchip would probably be better though. GCN is the only system you can't softmod (you can run code without a mod, but there's no way short of a real modchip to boot burned discs). Last I checked there was a semi-working modchip available; it enables a 'swap trick', but you still need a real disc to boot up with. Because of how long it took for a real mod (before that, you had to get the original PSO and a BBA, and upload your code, which would be really tedious for development) I don't think there's much available emulation-wise. (You can probably hack your own ROMs into Nintendo's emulators on games like the Zelda bonus disc, but they don't support a whole lot.) Also, PSX can do NES emulation pretty good, and even the most recent models (not sure about PSone) have the swap trick. I use it on mine when I don't want to dig out a real NES. You can write them however you want, but you need to know ASM for the console you're hacking to figure them out.
