It wouldn't 'die' if its target vanished though. It would just sit there idle until another one appears. And corrupting a file isn't really the same as eating.

Also 99% of worms that corrupt files just pick random ones, not one specific thing.

Come to think of it, I saw a similar illusion once. I have this poster on my wall, which has a thick border around its edge. On each side a person's hand sticks out in front of the border. Looking at it normally it's nothing special, but I looked at it upside-down and the hands sticking out made it look really 3D.

You could overclock, but don't expect 1ghz from a 447mhz CPU. I really wouldn't bother with something that old, just get a whole new system.

I think 0x0D would be for acts 1/2/4, depending how the bits are ordered.

I also spent a great length of post to explain to you what 16-bits signed integers are. Tell me how you came to think that values from -32768 to 32768 are not suitable for points in 3d space?

I just don't get how an integer value from -32768 to 32767 translates to a floating-point one from 0 to 5.

The 'object type' value is indeed a pointer in memory, so it could well be a 16-bit pointer in ROM. That could make things difficult. As for images, is it only 8 bits? I'd think there were more than 256 images...

Also some of the 'nothing' objects might not be visible objects. For example I think there are some objects that define the corners of a polygonal area in which water bombs will be dropped. I remember changing some coords in memory once, and bombs dropped in places they shouldn't have. I'm not sure how it works, though, if it's a polygon or a plain old square or just one big object.

Oh man, I could go on for hours listing them...

-Zelda Techno Remix by Salamander Square. I'm not sure what it's really called (maybe that?) or where to get it (found it on Kazaa just looking for Zelda music). It's 6:45 and SO awesome. It takes a bunch of Zelda songs and mixes them perfectly. The Lost Woods part will BLOW YOUR MIND.

-Bubble Bobble DjArcas Bubbl Techno OC ReMix. Bubble Bobble. 'Nuff said.

-Super Mario Bros 2 - Level 1 Remix by Insomnic. Eh, not sure how to describe it, but it's pretty good. A nice tehcno version of the level 1 theme.

-Zelda's Late Night Lullaby by MetalVapour. If you like NES-style music, you'll like this. It's similar but better quality. Lots of bass too.

-Sonic Adventure TheTwinkleParkClassic OC ReMix. Based on the already awesome Twinkle Circuit theme from Sonic Adventure, but with a 'softer' sound to it.

-Super Mario Bros 1 1 Hampton OC ReMix. Basically just the Super Mario Bros theme, re-arranged a bit and much higher quality. The kind of music Nintendo might use in an updated SMB port.

-The Ultimate Super Mario Bros. Remix by Sound Blaist. A sort of dance mix of the SMB theme. If you don't mind high-pitched notes you'll probably enjoy this. (It's again NESish, but not crappy quality.) The ~45-second 'intro' is pretty neat especially.

-Abandoned Theme (zelda remix) by the Obelisk device. A kind of gloomy, but rather cool song based on the Zelda 1 dungeon theme.

-Reel Big Mario - OC ReMix by Kaijin/JAXX - Marioland. A loud jazz version of the Super Mario Land theme.

-F-Zero X Expansion Kit's Rainbow Road theme. A rock remix of Mario Kart 64's Rainbow Road by Nintendo. Very cool. (Hell, name one song from an F-Zero game that doesn't rock. Except maybe Death Wind if you don't like repetitiveness. )

-Not from a video game but I just had to point out how much Why from Inuyasha - My Will Single rocks. Especially the instrumental version. There's a lot of cool music in the Inuyasha albums, actually. (Check out One Day One Dream, and let it play for 50 seconds before you judge it. )

Unfortunately a lot of my best songs are random ones I found a looooong time ago on Kazaa with no ID3 information, so I can't tell what they're called or who wrote them.

Only games I ever broke an official Nintendo controller over were Space Station: Silicon Valley (the path at the end of the 3rd jungle level is just plain horrible, and a fucking BIRD killed me right when I got tot the end ) and Wind Waker (WHY WON'T THE FLAMING CATERPILLAR DIE?). I broke a lot of crappy 3rd-party controllers by accident though.

I always tend to get killed right at the end of something. I remember in Sonic Adventure 2, there's some level where you have to find 3 jewel shards in space with Knuckles. 99% of the time they simply aren't there, I dunno if it's a bug or what but I could spend TWO HOURS looking and not find the third shard. This one time I had the first two, and the third one was right in front of me after looking for half an hour. A comet smacks me and I die! Come to think of it I haven't played that since.

And then there's the always-fun situations where you get back a game you lent out, and all the save files are something stupid, or you start up a game and they're just not there, or the power goes out/battery dies while saving and ruins them. Always a good way to piss a guy off.

A what? I played the hell out of that game and I don't remember anything like that. There's a cheat to make the AI harder in Tracks mode, but that's it... (I actually found the second Wizpig way easy though. The first one is the hard one.)

Posted on 07-02-05 08:49 AM, in Scary computer experiences Link
Something that just happened to me now... I came home from the Canada Day celebrations with some glow sticks, and I thought they'd look pretty sweet stuck in my computer. As I started to jiggle the case off (it's not screwed on) it shut itself off, like it does if anything gets shorted or misconnected or whatever. Ignoring that for the moment I stick them in, closed it up, and turned it back on...

STOP: UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME

Yep. Apparently due to the high disk activity from running BitTorrent, my Windows partition got corrupted. (Even though I was saving it on a different partition. ) No big deal, though. Booting up the Windows on the other HD and letting the disk check run fixed that. So then I turned it back off and moved the glow sticks a bit, and closed the case. Turn it back on... nothing happens. It won't turn on. I fixed this in the usual manner, by disconnecting everything for a minute, and then turning it on again... it started up and the speaker just started wailing. I shut it off, jiggled the IDE cables a bit and turned it on again, and after some messages about boot fKitten Yiffers, it started up alright.

I'm still not sure why it shut off, or what made it scream, but I have to say it really freaked me out... No apparent damage though. (And the glow sticks look cool, but I popped my power/HDD LEDs out of place installing them and can't get them back in. )

Another interesting, semi-related, and much shorter story was when I tried to burn a CD a while ago. It failed because somehow adding files to a CD is no longer possible (I know I did it once ), which triggered the always-fun bug that causes Windows to lock up the drive so I can't open it. Well I figured I'd open it up and just unplug the drive for a second. It ended up being a huge pain to plug it back in at such an akward angle, and about 2 minutes after I'd unplugged it, still trying to plug it back in, the whole computer just shut off. Not sure why it took so long...

Any other interesting stories of how your computer spooked you?
