So many out there, and they all have the same problems:
-They expect me to pay to write free software. Ha!
-They're compressed with some format nobody uses and the only decompressor is a POS program that screws up all the files and is shareware.
-They're add-ons for something I don't have.
-By the time you actually get them working (changing paths, messing with compiler options, installing crap nobody's ever heard of) you could have done the entire program in ASM with a hex editor.

So can anyone tell me where I can find a good C compiler for GBA? Please don't say devrs.com, I tried them all.

What is it with people insisting that IE can be removed? WinXP == IE. I installed it once and IE didn't work. NOTHING worked. Some of the most important core files are frickin Javascript!

As for the "Unauthorized programs", this refers to 3rd party software and viruses that run without your awareness - you never authorized their startup. In other words, if you visit a website, script can NOT automatically be executed which will in any way read data from or record data to your system without your authorization. This doesn't include cookies or temporary internet files, but more often those "data miners" or the type of popup ads that open/close CD-ROM trays. This is a major leap for virus and spyware prevention as all of these programs will probably be defined in a database and if Windows detects any of them running, it will inform you of it and possibly what it does (like Spybot, in a way).

So, like Linux already has for years? You don't seriously believe it's going to prompt you for every script a webpage tries to run?

Yes, except that the checksum he's referring to is the global sum of a GB ROM. Some emulators don't like it when they're wrong.

You better take this guy seriously. Whoever 'u' is, apparently he intends to 'hospitilize' and 'danm near kill' him. Even 'kik' his ass. I don't know what all that means exactly, but this guy sounds pretty intelligent and threatening.

I found a Javascript security hole. No, I'm not telling.
There's also the "question mark trick" for stupid free hosts, but it's not all that popular (so I'll post it again: About 99.7% hosts will allow remote linking if you add a question mark and sometimes random numbers to the end of the URL. )

If it isn't, it should be.
I must say, some of these ideas are pretty good for a virus. If I was gonna make one, it'd probably have a lot of those features. (Of course, making a virus is just plain dumb. )

The more annoying an ad, the less likely I am to click, and I'm not all that likely to do it to begin with. Any popups are instantly added to my shitlist. I'll click (and instantly close) banners on good sites if they're not too obnoxious, that's about it.

Crap, I came here from online.php but accidentally clicked 'open in new tab' instead of 'copy link' which resulted in me voting for something, and I don't know which one. I choose DKR. Mario Kart seems too slow and repetitive, and the music's not all that great. DKR just seems more fun somehow. Better AI, even item distribution (as opposed to constant bananas and green shells) and nice track design. I think the biggest thing was that DKR's tracks are full of action, whereas Mario Kart's are mostly boring and straight with a few curves. (That 'tap the gas to accellerate' bit helps too, even though it's a glitch. More action since you actually tap the button a lot instead of just holding...)

Stability isn't everything. If you do it right, Win95 can be plenty stable as well. It's hardly fair to compare speeds unless you've installed them both on the same system; of course a top of the line system with XP will perform better than a crappy school system with 95.
Also I agree with the GUI thing. 3D, WTF? A GUI should be simple and functional. Win98 had it right. You don't need 24-bit images or 3D models to make a good GUI, a few simple lines will do. XP's default themes also make me want to hurl.

Not to mention the dozens of public domain MP3s I've downloaded. Not everything ending with .mp3 is illegal.

I think it's sick that record companies are shipping albums that you can't rip, nor back up. If I knew that the CD I wanted to buy had this software on it, I'd demand a lower price because they have removed your rights to making a backup.

Not that I buy CDs (just don't want 'em, PD/video game music is better and you can only get that online) but if I did, on the VERY odd chance they made such a thing that actually worked (which would surprise me, the majority of those are crappy; a good CD-ROM that plays the same as a normal CD player and disabling autorun will kill most if not all of them) I would take it back right there and NEVER buy from them again. The hell if I'm going to buy a CD if I can't copy the songs I want to my MP3 player in the order I want and not have to bugger around with switching discs.

after a few months of trying out new cool programs, like I like to do, Windows starts to become lippy. Take the file associations box... It won't recognise rich text files, and when I select Word Pad, it won't let me select the "Use this program every time" check box. Also, when I came to installing a modem a while back, it randomly disabled options that should be enabled.

I never got that. Software like Windoze seems to literally 'fall apart'. Mine worked at first (after reinstalling IE; the install CD didn't bur... er, was scratched) but now Winkey+M (minimize all) doesn't work, the Quick Launch icons refuse to go small, the whole thing goes NUTS when I play fullscreen games, dropdown boxes in IE (I don't use IE, but HTML files as desktop BGs do) don't respond to the first 8 clicks or so, it takes about a minute for the right-click menu to appear on the desktop, reading CDs is uber-slow, and often it won't show a preview of a file or will claim it's in use when I try to delete it. Trillian's the same way; it works at first but after a while the graphics start screwing up, things stop working, and everything just goes down the toilet until you reinstall.

[edit] Oh yeah, and on an interesting side note, if you poke around XP's explorer.exe in ResHack, you'll find some images with "Codename Whistler Server" written on them. Very interesting...

Upgrade Service sounds fishy with a name like 'sxchost.exe' (trying to mimic a windoze file). Runner also doesn't belong, svchost isn't in C:\Windows.
As for your missing file, You use XP? NTFS filesystem? Might be hidden in a stream.

Oh, and use Proxomitron to kill ads.

I agree that making sofrware isn't specifically easy, but...
A) I have no money. Well I do, but I'm saving for something and would like to avoid spending at all costs.
B) Buying things over the Internet is impossible without a credit card. I refuse to get one, and I'm not old enough anyway.
C) Buying software's just not something I can bring myself to do.

As for ASM, if I knew it, I'd gladly use it. In fact, I probably will later once I learn more. At the moment though, I have absolutely no knowledge of this particular CPU. I'll try what you mentioned (they never made it clear exactly what the differences were, at least not that I could see), thanks for the tip.

I usually just set them to Master when they're alone and it all works. As for the floppy disks, what happens? Can you read them in Windoze? DOS? Does the BIOS detect the drive? (FYI: If the disk access light is always on, the IDE cable's connected backward. )
