Well I got my old computer to start up (turned out to be a bad power supply; I figured it out when the power LED started flickering ), but it won't load any CD-ROM drivers. It starts up and detects the hard disk and CD-ROM (does it matter that the HD is primary master and the CD-ROM is secondary slave?) but doesn't actually assign the CD-ROM a drive letter. On the hard disk is a program called mscdex.exe, which is supposed to be able to load CD-ROM drivers like the oakcdrom.sys also on the hard disk. No matter what combination of different options and filenames I try, though, it either doesn't find the file or says I used an invalid option (but doesn't tell me what like it would if I really had done so). The invalid option error usually comes up if I specify a more-than-8-character filename for the driver (including extension) so I tried naming it just 'o.sys' but no luck.  |

| Well if you absolutely can not get something to work on the real system, then it's acceptable to use a hackish solution, but you should always strive to ensure that your hacks could be played if they were to be put on a flash ROM and stuck into a real cartridge. (If possible, do so!) And yes, that does apply in this case, because you can't very well cart-swap on a SNES, let alone copy save files between the two. |

| Besides graphics (and in some cases music) you can't just copy something from one game into another. The code for wart is programmed to work with the Super Mario Bros 2 code and the NES hardware. It wouldn't work at all in SMW code or SNES hardware. You would have to re-write it all. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I remember seeing someone use scripts to change their name colour. They got in trouble for it though, and now I think it's no longer possible. |

Well the game is designed to be edited, and can draw the tracks just by control points, so I'm sure they were able to make AI follow the track through the same method used to create it. |

Well, if you know of any RAM addresses related to the textures, I have a real N64 and Gameshark I can use to find what code reads to/writes from them. I don't know a way to do it for reads from the ROM though. |
 You should post the offsets of the files that contained those backgrounds and textures. If pointers to them can be found in the level headers, that would tell us a lot about how the game loads them. (Recall the pointer table format; pointers to the start and end of level data, some unknown pointers, then several in a repeating float-pointer-pointer format. It's very interesting.) Again, also, I'd like to know as much as possible about the layout of the files with level data. It'd be a huge help to find other data within them.
