You must have edited that post and hacked the 'edited by' line out. That's the only logical explanation.

Any idea how the game decides which level data to load from the file? If level 4's contains both the outdoor area and the slide... You oughta be posting the addresses that go with each pic too.

Those backgrounds are awesome as well. Why don't they look that good in-game?

But your replacement is much wider than 32 pixels, and up really high in the sky.

WOW.

So does the game use that format or just your program? If the game used a format like that imagine how many courses we could fit in a hack. Hell we could put them in memory card/save game files and hack in some kinda menu.

You mean a BG to go behind the sun? Open up Yoshi's Island, go to Watch Out For Chain Chomp and get to the part with the helicopter. That BG kicks ass and would fit perfectly seeing how your island appears to be quite high in the sky.

Also I love the idea of making it one big continent. Awesome design.

I'm pretty sure those are just addresses that are wired to the cart's address lines. Whether they access ROM, SRAM, or whatever is up to the cart. Just a guess though.

Any progress on objects (trees, Goombas, etc)? I know a lot about their format in memory (see here), so if I had any idea how the MIO0 files were laid out I could try to look for related data.

Yeah, like I said we'd have to program in a menu or something. Either way, though, that's damn cool.

Posted on 06-22-05 08:56 AM, in What's a good video editor? Link
I was just thinking it'd be nice to have some sort of video editor. The only one I have (well, had) is Windows Movie Maker which sucked so bad (and of course crashed randomly) I wiped every trace of it from the hard drive. Here's what I'm looking for:

  • Speed - not important but needs to be at least functional on an old crappy computer, working with videos up to around 250MB or 30 minutes.
  • Compatibility - as many supported formats as possible, particularly MKV, AVI and MPG. Output-wise just AVI and maybe MPG is fine.
  • Stability - random crashes was the worst thing about WMM.
  • Power - needs to be able to insert, remove and re-arrange clips, scroll through a frame at a time and import/export still images. WMM's interface was pretty good for this, actually. Some special effects would be nice too, especially speed changed and reversing clips. Audio isn't particularly important but being able to import an MP3 to use as an audio track would be good.

I'm looking particularly at free stuff but I'm open to more expensive suggestions, nothing ridiculous though. (Only one I know of, free or not, is VirtualDub, and unless there's a whole lot of plugins somewhere it's pretty limited.)
