If you can't find a flash cart, you can always flash an EEPROM and replace the ROM in an old cart with it.

Posted on 04-28-04 08:41 PM, in Is there any hacks/utilities for any N64 games?? Link
I suppose that's true (I can barely run SM64 at full speed in wireframe or hardware 3D mode, nearly perfect but slow in RGB Emulation mode), but it's still rather difficult to code. Plus, it'd suck to have only wireframe mode, I'd want to be able to texture it all to preview the level.
BTW, I have a lot of info on the raw (IE not compressed, in-RAM version) object data of Mario 64, as well as some code and such, I'll post it when I get home.

So it's not a SNES emulator, just a 65816 emulator. Cool. That would be the base of an emu, once you've got that you're well on the way to making one (though with the SPC700 being another CPU entirely, you're really only halfway there).

If you don't mind it being ugly.
Clean the CD, and if it doesn't work, try another one. If it won't read anything, get one of those CD player cleaning discs (a CD with brushes on it, you put some cleaner on and it cleans everything out) and see if it helps.

Yes, it sounds great. Copy a CD? Hell no. File sharing? Forget it. Develop free software? Sure, if you have the extra loads of cash to get it licensed (note "will not run unauthorized programs"). And you can FORGET open-source.

Posted on 04-30-04 03:08 AM, in WinXP StyleBuilder - Buttons ignoring my settings Link
So I got StyleBuilder, and started messing around in it. Seems pretty easy, really. I came across a problem however, the buttons seem to be ignoring the Text Colour property. I made it white (since they're dark-coloured), but it's still black! How am I supposed to fix it? (It shows white in the program, just not on a real button.) Disabled buttons seem to be using the same colour as the button itself to draw the text, so they're completely unreadable.

Not being in the master database, of course. The real problem is that it's built into the CPU, so there's little to no chance of disabling it, and even if you did it's a safe bet that a lot of programs would refuse to run on systems without it (claiming they need some function of it to run, which may but probably wouldn't be true), and servers equipped with it would refuse connections from your system because "OMFG it's not secure". Not to mention that they even basically say* CD copying would be impossible (and of course MP3 downloading), as in M$ can tell the system what you're allowed to do, and you know they wouldn't stop there. Essentially M$ has full control over the system; they can delete things they don't like (anything from illegal stuff to a document that even mentions anything bad about them, or whatever the hell else they want).

*Basically what they say is it will allow CDs to be played/copied/etc conforming to fair use rights. We all know what those are. If it were up to the music industry computers wouldn't even be allowed to have CD-ROMs or audio inputs.

I want a car. My dad's probably gonna get me one in the summer, but then I need to get it home, which is an expensive cross-Canada trip. Haven't got a real license yet (just one that I can drive if there's another driver in the car, in my case, completely useless ), I won't be able to until June. Still, I'll need something to drive...

Actually, I just remembered, I do have something. Anya, wanna trade? It's a nice big monster truck, fully electric, in perfect condition. It's just missing the insides, 10 inches tall, and controlled by a remote.

It's always rather funny to see ads using the default Win98/XP skin when I'm using a custom one. I've also seen a few that were exact copies of Norton's firewall alert screens, claiming that a hacker is attacking from IP 127.0.0.1 and you should click here to stop it.
I also occasionally get those "worried about having a small diiiicky?" spams. That's always good for a laugh. You're asking the wrong person, bub.

[edit] "Grow Ur Little Small Dic-Diick Now tantrism menstrual". Nice wording. *insert penis joke here*

I only ever got 2 BSODs that I regarded as important. One in WinXP - it crashes if I unplug the joystick while it's booting. The other in WinME, since it wasn't a standard BSOD - it was the HP logo. The damn thing rebooted itself because it was overheating.

Posted on 05-01-04 01:42 AM, in GBA intros Link
Originally posted by LocalH

Good thing none of you had any say over the C64 scene...I don't know why people are so averse to intros, hell I remember some of the old C64 intros better than the games they preceded! Half the time the intro was coded better than the game was =P

Don't take offense to this - I don't want to force anyone to like intros. But you can bet your ass that any ROM I ever release will have an intro (although I will also include instructions for manual removal and information on exactly what was modified). Basically, the way I look at it, if you're smart enough to remove it yourself, then you deserve to have an intro without a ROM. But, for 99% of the emulamers out there who only download ROMs to increase the size of their collection, then you can bet your ass I want their copy of my releases to have my intro on them. I wouldn't make it easy, you'd have to go in with a hex editor to purge the intro.

Sorry to bump this so long after it died, but this is something I feel very strongly about, and anytime the topic comes up I vocalize my beliefs. The C64 demo scene was borne of the cracking screen, and the intros added by crackers, and I feel it's due to the very fact that intros were standard that makes the C64 demo scene the biggest and best in the world, even to this day. I just don't understand why people have tolerated intros for as long as they have, and now all of a sudden I see most people in the console scene saying 'intros suck, bla bla bla'. I can sorta understand it with GBA games because I have a feeling it takes quite a bit less work to 'crack' the average GBA game than it did the average C64 game, but still, like I said, the emulamers who only want massive collections fucking DESERVE ROMs with intros. I'd like to see them properly identified, such as TOSEC handles it (by adding [cr {cracker}] to the filename). That way, those who want ROMs with intros (such as myself) and those who don't want ROMs with intros (such as most of you) can both have their way.

You must die. If you want to show off your 1337 special effects and programming tricks, make a ROM of your own for it. Don't clog up existing ROMs with them. All ROMs should be released exactly as they're dumped.
