Look, it's a really really huge banner for my web site! Because we all know the bigger the banner, the better the site right! Tip: This is referring to some of the sigs I've seen lately. |

Or just use Notepad, select 'all files' and add '.ini' to the name.

What's my video card have to do with it? It can't very well push the power button. Also, it's not the auto-monitor-off function that causes a problem, it's new windows being launched or flashed. I don't want to disable the screen saver, because I do sometimes leave without shutting it off, and that won't prevent things like getting an IM from doing it.

Well it wouldn't be a banner for my website if it didn't link to my website now would it? (I wanted to link to like a board or something like everyone else does, but I don't have one.)

Hehe. Internet translators are fun to screw with. Especially with languages Chinese and Japanese where one letter can mean a word. That's a pretty damn bad translation though. Also random fun is typing your name in Japanese Kanji and seeing what it means, though it requires Japanese support and knowledge of Katakana... Mine means 'Picture Village 9' apparently. (Simple enough to do with WinXP: Type your name in Japanese with Conversion Mode set to Names, and run it through a translator. If you can read Katakana you can have said translator convert your name too, which they're generally good enough at.) Rofl. 'HyperHacker' comes out 'Ash paa ignition sub-' (the 'paa' is letters that didn't get Kanji-ized). Though I could swear that 火 meant fire. |

BGNG's technique (aka ROM Corrupting) is good, but I suggest using something like 1 or 0x20 instead of 0. You can recognize the results more easily. Suppose you zeroed out an area and the graphics blanked out - how do you know what happened? You might have wiped out the graphics, tile arrangements, palettes, etc. With, say, 0x20 the graphics will generally have an easily-recognizable pattern (most likely all just a straight line of a certain colour repeated over and over), making it easy to tell what happened. And you should always avoid using random values. You may need to be able to reproduce the effect, or the combination may end up crashing the game sometimes, which can be very annoying. (Or the random numbers could end up being a chunk of ASM code that does something cool... but don't count on it. ) |

Oh, I read that wrong, it's the textures that are compressed. I assume you never had any need to re-compress those? And I agree that VB is ridiculously slow, I myself stopped using it a while ago. But still, you made a 3D N64 game editor in it. (That was mainly a joke anyway.) |

YD and Sion win. Here's my desktop as of right now [194KB]. Teh boring. I need to get around to writing some cool programs, and then it shall pwn. Notice the 31337 hacked Start button and IP address display. Also, looking at a desktop pic in a web browser is quite confusing. [edit] Let's get that IP out of the pic... A few days ago I started up my old computer and it booted from a CD just fine. Today, I tried again, and it just won't do it. It can read the hard disk fine but there's no OS on it. CD-ROM, it will detect but can't read from. I've tried all manner of jumper and cable switching. It does boot from a floppy disk alright. The strangest thing is that if I swap in another HD I have, the RAM fails. Usually it passes the memory test, but it crashes and certain letters disappear from the screen. This happens every time that particular HD is connected but it works fine without it. (Except that it won't read the CD-ROM drive, and I've tried 2. It does say it found the drive though.) Am I to assume the IDE controller is screwed up? Any way to fix it?

Is there some way to trap file access? Like say a program tries to open file.txt, my program can make it open differentfile.txt and think it's file.txt? (Even when file.txt doesn't actually exist.) I know I've seen it done with custom device drivers, but hopefully I won't have to resort to anything that complicated. Also, how can I create a layered child window, or one where a certain colour is transparent? WS_EX_LAYERED can't be applied to child windows, and I need all areas of the window that I haven't drawn on yet to be invisible so you can see what's under it (and if possible click the stuff under it even). Yes, what he said. C: = Old HD, Windows partition (still has Windows installed for screwing with stuff) D: = CD-ROM E: = Windows partition F: = All my stuff G: = Some other partition on the old HD H: and I: Linux It's annoying having Windows on E: though. Damn installer not letting me choose the letters. |
