Yeah, I do that... I can't have it turn back on at a specific time or if something goes horribly wrong though.

Crappy censor alert. Funny, even if I've seen it before. Also this:
Forget where I found it, but yeah. |

Funny, but it'd be funnier if it weren't true.

I know of few emulators that aren't open-source. What are you trying to do anyway? It sounds like some sort of P2P program for ROMs.

Feckin' awesome. Way to show 'em what VB can do. How are you re-compressing the tracks though; I assume you had to repoint them? I need to figure out how to repoint N64 stuff.

How could it not have Kanji support? It only needs to get the character number and pass it to a text-drawing function.

Good edits, but it doesn't seem to be done enough to warrant posting screenshots. Most things haven't changed...

Nice graphics. I like that jungle BG. Surprised nobody mentioned the un-changed levels though.

I thought that looked more like a raindrop. I can't think of what such an item would do... hence why it's such an interesting idea! Awesome work as always.

BMF made a patch once that only displays the 'Time Up' message if the time limit wasn't 0 to start with. I dunno where though. Anyway I've thought of this idea a lot, and it's more than feasible but will require a good deal of ASM hacking. The biggest thing is how to, at any point in time, load a specific level... I managed to hack the level loading code so it would always load a certain level, but I couldn't get it to load on demand. However, the 'action register' ($7E0100) can probably be used for this... If you, at any time in the game, write a certain value to it it will load the overworld, a level, the intro etc. The game probably uses this to load the overworld when you die/exit/whatever (in fact, somewhere in my notes, I have written down exactly where you would be able to change it for pause+select). It'd be trivial to hack all instances that the game writes 'load overworld' and change them to 'load level'. The only problem is we need to figure out how to say which level. (IIRC it just loads whatever level you're at on the overworld.) |

Hmm. Be nice if it didn't crash every second time I tried to disassemble something, or if hitting 0 didn't randomly change the timing with no way to reverse it making the game run too fast...

Yep. Get an A/V->Stereo adaptor (you plug in the red and white sound cables and the other end is a headphone plug), and run it straight into your sound card. Works for me. Getting them without sound effects can be a huge pain if it's even possible though. A good bet is pausing; some trickery of the lid switch can often delay the music enough that the pause sound doesn't get mixed in. It works with Mario Kart. I forget exactly how it's done, but something along the lines of opening the lid so the game can't play music (it streams the music from the disc) and pausing before the 'close the damn door' message shows up but after one second on the timer (when the music would start). Done right, you'll have the game paused after one second, with no music playing. Close the lid when it yells at you, and because of the extensive, slow disc verifcation process, you'll have a good 8-second gap between the end of the 'pause' sound and the start of the music. Something like that usually works with most games, if you can do it right, but of course they need to play music when they're paused... (edited by HyperHacker on 06-03-05 10:49 AM) |

I'd just kill the text delay altogether. Maybe you can make the text part of the level itself.

Yes, that's one reason you can't really make an 'add-on' that does it without modifying the game's code. They'd need to be hacked to either get random numbers from their host or use some sort of algorithm that ensures each game will generate the same number (lookup tables maybe?). Unless, of course, the GCN contains some kind of standard random number system that everything uses, then it should be no problem to just sync that. (I don't think it does though.) Actually, I remember hearing that most if not all GCN games use the official SDK, which means they would all have the exact same code for simple functions like random numbers. That means you could probably do a 'seek-and-replace' kind of thing... A program could automatically find and tweak a game's random number code. Either way, though, it still means running custom code. |

It all depends on quality, mainly environment-wise. 3D games' quality can vastly differ depending how they're designed. A good 3D game can blow your mind and soak your pants, whereas a bad one can make you want to vomit (literally in some cases). |
