phpBB is nice and all, but I loathe the way they switched the Submit and Preview buttons. EVERY FORUM SOFTWARE EVER has them the other way.

I'm here on break right now. I do come during class sometimes though. Like I posted in the other thread about this a few threads down.

I think I mentioned this a while ago. Some sort of special staff forum that people could post threads in via a 'report post' link. Of course there would have to be some kind of restrictions on what and how often they could post... Though for the most part just adding as many staff as possible to your AIM contact list and telling someone who's on will do. There's usually someone, if not, wait.

Woah, I can see why they would want to tap into that market then. Anyone think it'll work though? They'd probably be rather offended if the place actually used electricity, and it'd be hard for a big chain store like that not to. (<-- Not too informed on the ways of the Amish. )

Heh, come to think of it, there was one thing. The usual thing they do to newborn males. Thing is, they never actually got permission... They sure as hell were lucky that was what my mom wanted anyway, and that she wasn't the kind who'd pretend otherwise and sue. Other than that, though, I don't believe I've had any major surgery (aside from dental work), but I have had a lot of scans and tests for various reasons... I managed to overload an EEG machine (brain wave scanner of some sort) once.

The plan is to take the bus down to Union Station, then take the GO train to the convention (or airport at least, close enough ). Anyone have any experience travelling in Toronto that might be able to give me some pointers? Can I expect to see any of you there?

Oh, for the staff, yes that means I'll be away on the 27th-29th.

I'm pretty sure there are programs you can use to rip the CD as an ISO (or possibly just plain files) and make a 'fake' CD drive out of it. I'm not sure whether it'd work though.

Cool, that did it.

[edit] Hopefully someone decides to look in here again for whatever reason. Just have a few relatively simple questions:

1) Where can I find examples of using functions in .dll files?
2) Is it possible to include the line number and filename in a string? I often see programs listing these in debugging info, and to have to go through and update them all manually every time you modify a file would be pretty tedious. [edit: yay for __FILE__ and __LINE__... Can I get just the filename and not the full path though?]
3) Is there a way to get the names of days, months etc? (I could hard-code them, sure, but then they'll always be in English.)
4) Using that #pragma pack(1) statement, will that pack everything to one byte? If so, how can I restore the default setting afterward? I only want these particular structs packed that way.

Probably more to come...

If you don't need a whole lot of space, a USB memory stick might be better. They're really small and about $100 for a gig or two.

I've actually been having the same problem on and off lately. Things download really slow and often take at least two or more requests to go through. It seems fine at the moment though. You live in Ontario?

One thing to consider is to go into Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery Settings and turn off Automatically Restart, so you can actually see the error message. Frankly I don't know why they even put such a stupid option in there, it only makes it so that you can't tell what's wrong when Windows won't boot.

I've had that too. Spammers like to fake things like that. How it works, I'm not entirely sure (probably BCC like neo said), but the point is it's nothing worth reading. Really you shouldn't even open spam, because just by doing so they can verify that your account exists and start spamming the hell out of you. (What do you think happens when you open an email with an image linked to 'www.somespammerssite.com/email.php?your@address.here'? )

Make sure you actually test it too, and set the preferences how you want them before implementing the filter.

Standard, yes. This is an emergency restart though. Basically a BSOD but it skips the actual error message and just reboots.

Maybe I'm not looking at this right, but if you changed the speed to #$FF00, wouldn't that be the same as subtracting #$0100? Example value #$1234 + #$0100 = #$1334; #$1234 + #$FF00 = #$11134, but since it's a 16-bit number, the highest digit is cut off and you end up with #$1134.

I don't recall having to use seek for that. Been a while since I did VB but IIRC, just something like put #1, SomeOffset, SomeValue would work. You should use variable file numbers though:
Dim nFileNum as Integer
nFileNum = FreeFile
Open "file.bla" For Binary as #nFileNum

This way you don't need to worry about whether you already have a file open as #1 or what have you. FreeFile will always be a free file number.

It sounds like it might be overheating, which probably isn't update-related. Install another fan if possible (can't hurt to have an extra fan or two, even if it doesn't solve the problem), and see if you can find a program to monitor your CPU temperature (note if the temp seems high around the time it crashes). What happens when you try to start up again, anyway?

This has happened to me a few times, usually it's just loading really slow (mainly after installing a lot of extensions, it needs to prepare them all the first time). Give it a good 15 minutes or so. Once it's done that it should start up quick afterward.

I'm sure they've tried. Problem is their code sucks. XP was supposed to be a total rewrite though, and it's certainly a hell of a lot more stable/less buggy than older versions. (You actually have to have a problem to get a BSOD. )
