Well by name I meant the #define; I generally use those. Easier to keep track of. (I could swear I've had this conversation before... ) Good to know, though. However, there's still the problem of having multiple controls with the same 'name' on different dialogs. Is there something similar to VB's 'with' statement perhaps? I might be able to work with that.

Posted on 05-18-05 04:47 AM, in What do you label your drives? Link
I label them by disk and partition, Linux-style, along with a short description.
A: Floppy, duh
C: "HDB0" (Old XP install, for recovery and hacking system files, until I bother formatting it )
D: CD-ROM
E: "Windows (HDA1)" (Current XP install - Windows' installer's partitioning system is a huge pain )
F: "Files (HDA6)" (All my actual stuff)
G: "HDB1" (Second partition which I had installed Mandrake on at one point, never used, and formatted for extra space)
H: "Local Disk" (Gentoo; read-only access using a driver I found. It supports write access but it's dangerous so I keep it turned off.)
I: "Local Disk" (Gentoo's \boot. Why can't I give these 'fake' labels in Windows anyway? )

Also, yes, Linux's drive system is in many ways superior to Windows'. One big reason being that in Windows you can't drop down to root and use 'dir /s file.whatever' to search all the disks.

You could easily just hack the code that tells the SPC to play the jump sound.

Wall jumping with custom blocks shouldn't be too difficult. A simple implementation could just see if Mario's touching the side of the block and if a direction + the jump button is pressed; if so, play a sound, flip Mario and send him upward and away.

It probably is the power. N64 has both a 3.3 and 12-volt input. With just one it can start up but not do much. I had mine completely die.

Posted on 05-18-05 08:51 AM, in Nintendo releases Info about Revolution Link
Droolage:
  • Downloading old games
  • Looks awesome
  • CRAPLOADS OF FREE ONLINE PLAY Plus, Nintendo has MARIO KART!
  • Official support for user-developed software would PWN (Though I wouldn't really count on it).
  • Built-in flash memory expandable via SD card. Bye-bye memory cards and HDD upgrades.

Suckage:
  • Needs an add-on for DVDs? Yet, it uses DVDs for the games.
  • Charges for downloading the games? (Gamecube/N64 I could understand, but... Even worse if it's pay-per-play and/or requires a credit card, that would just kill the whole idea IMO.)

Questionage:
  • Could it play Gamecube games via wifi?
  • Game Boy emulation? Maybe upload it to DS?

Personally I'm just glad that this destroys my fear that 'revolution' doesn't refer to something revolutionary, but rather something that rotates.

Now what'd really be awesome is if they had Crono Trigger with the PSX version's enhancements. Or Diddy Kong Racing online. *creams pants at thought*

Also, interesting note, I thought of a really tiny Game Boy a long time ago, before GBC even came out. I never mentioned it to anyone though.

Revolution: Cheap, backward-compatible with everything, online for free, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, ZELDA, Animal Crossing, need I say more?

PS3 will probably cool but after seeing PSX, PS2 and PSP I'm not buying one any time in 2006. Let them fix the numerous problems first.

Xbox... The occasional game appeals to me. The price makes up for it. Unless 360 makes some radical changes, I don't see me buying one except maybe toward the end of its life for hacking purposes.

Heh, that's what I ended up doing.
How can I get a dialog's ID in DialogProc? GetDlgCtrlID returns 0 for every dialog. Nevermind, I'll just use CreateDialogParam.

[edit] Small structure-related problem. I'm reading a structure out of a binary file (a ROM). I've re-created the structure exactly, and simply use fread() to read data from the ROM into the structure as a single element of the number of bytes it takes up in the ROM - I added more to the end so I can't use sizeof()). For the most part it works, but the structure actually contains another, smaller structure in it, and this isn't being read right. The sub-structure consists of one byte and one short. (FYI, the short is stored low-byte-first in the ROM, which I assume is the same as in memory.) Is there like extra bytes stuck in there to hold information about the sub-structure or something?

Code segments:
typedef struct _ROMPtr
{
BYTE Bank;
short Addr;
} ROMPtr;

struct MapHeader
{
[...]
BYTE YSize; //Height (this comes first O_o)
BYTE XSize; //Width
ROMPtr _MapLoc; //3-Byte pointer to map
ROMPtr _ScriptLoc; //3-Byte pointer to on-load script
short _EventLoc; //2-Byte pointer to event data (shares bank with ScriptLoc)
BYTE ConnectionFlags; //Connection flags
} MapData;

XSize and YSize both get read fine, as well as everything else before them (which is omitted), but _MapLoc and everything after that seem to be getting corrupt. (MapLoc's members should read 0x2B and 0x4DB5, but they're reading as 0x2B and 0x4D48. ) I'm not really sure if it's actually everything after them though, or just those themselves, since that's all at the very end of the structure (only ConnectionFlags really provides any indication, and it's 0, which is right, but so is most of _ScriptLoc and _EventLoc, which is wrong.)

Also, what's the use of 'MapHeader' in 'struct MapHeader'?

Nobody's going to yell at you as long as it doesn't happen again. It's more than possible for a little kid to start mashing the keyboard and hit tab and enter.

To quote the FAQ for the rest of you, though:

DON'T:
17. Respond to a spammer attack/obvious flame. If it's obvious that the post/thread in question will be deleted, don't post and make fun of the person or ask for the post/thread to be taken care of.

That still applies even if the spam wasn't deliberate.
