Sometimes when linking directly to a file or posting an image, you'll get 'no remote link' errors or even fake 'page not found' errors. In this case you are encouraged to get a better host, however, if need be you can try tacking a question mark on to the end of the file's name when posting the link. Additionally, on many hosts you can change the file extension to .txt to bypass this, but this can cause the file to show up as a bunch of garbage when you link to it. (If this happens, just click Save Page As and give it the proper extension, and it should work fine.) Also, under no circumstances should .BMP files be used for screen shots! They are often several times larger than other formats, which both makes the page load slow and eats up your bandwidth. .PNG is recommended for screen shots and art, these will preserve the colours perfectly while having a much smaller file size. In addition, note than you can not link to images or files on your hard drive. Keep in mind that C:\ only refers to your hard drive on your computer. My C:\ drive does not contain your screen shots. You will need to upload them to a web host. ImageShack is good for images, though you can't post the image itself (only a link to it). Geocities is good for just about any file, but you'll need to add a question mark or rename the files as mentioned above. Finally, don't post big images as an image, use a link instead. "Try to view the source" *Clicks View -> Page Source* Rofl, they just stuck it halfway down and halfway across a huge bunch of spaces and used one of those lame JS encryptions. ANY of those can be defeated in about 3 minutes. Copy and paste it, and modify it to print to a textbox instead of document.write. "Try to right click" Only worked because of the encrypted script. I oughta get an extension for it instead of relying on HTML filtering, but what the hell, I can do anything I could do with right-clicking with the main menu anyway. "Try to select text" Hah, nice. It de-selects if you click and drag, but not if you hit Ctrl+A. "Try to see the URL" Done. Next! "Try to print" Don't wanna waste the paper, but Print Preview works. Doesn't hurt that I blocked all JS printing-related functions. (Some weird-ass page had a print prompt popping up when you viewed it. )"Try to save a copy" Not even gonna bother thinking of a sarcastic way of saying I encountered no trouble doing so. "Try to take a screen shot" Should I save that as JPG or PNG?  Hell, who am I kidding, that's nowhere near worth saving. *closes MSPaint*I always like emailing these guys their own decrypted source codes, but if it hasn't even been updated in 3 years, there's not much point. People don't seem to understand the fact that HTML must be decrypted to plain text, and browsers act the same whether you're viewing the page, saving a copy, or using the little-known view-source:// protocol. Trying to write closed-source HTML is like giving someone a password written in plain text on a piece of paper and trying to convince them they can't read it. (Sure, some of this stuff might work in IE, but you shouldn't be using that for the web anyway. )

ClearType does smooth it out on CRTs, but works even better on LCDs. (It uses sub-pixel rendering, which CRTs can't do, but they still get a less effective anti-aliasing effect.) I use it, it's nice except when I want to edit a screenshot and there's all fruity colours around the text. |
It also made the text in one of my old layouts over a translucent GIF readable, whereas without it, it looked like crap.

Seriously though, if both can connect to the web through it, there's no reason it shouldn't work, though you might need to unblock the ports. XP's Network Wizard seems to hate older versions of Windows though.

This would actually be pretty cool if not for 2 rather crappy restrictions:1) 10MB size limit, doesn't create multiple messages to split up large files. 2) Can't assign a drive letter to it!
