This would be quite an awesome idea if it was actually implemented properly. On most boards it always just takes me to the most recent post in the thread, rather than the first one that was made since I last posted/read there. If this board had that I might actually start using the 'mark forum read' feature. (I really should start doing that...) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Technically, it's possible, but it isn't supposed to be. So the easy answer is you can't.
I think the board blocks filter attributes, actually. People were using them for annoying crap like glowing text. But yeah, that is an IE-only thing. |

Are you sure you're actually logged in? Check your cookies. In IE I think it's under Options -> Privacy, check the various cookie settings. In Mozilla (and I assume Firefox... that reminds me, I gotta get around to trying that ) just go to Tools -> Cookie Manager -> Allow cookies from this site. Then log out if need be and try logging in again. (Make sure you're using the 'Log in' link, just entering your info when posting won't do it.) If that doesn't do it a reboot may be in order, and if you're using IE you may want to clear your cache. [edit] Oh yeah, and if you can't get the link to show up for some reason, you can click here instead, and at least see if it lets you in. (edited by HyperHacker on 01-27-05 05:01 PM) |

Para: Don't get me wrong, I enjoy writing my code in just plain Notepad much more than M$'s crappy IDE. (I should actually get around to looking at Textpad, though. ) It does have one or two nice features though, such as telling you the parameters of a function as you type it, and the type of a variable upon request.Originally posted by DischOriginally posted by HyperHacker True, but in VB you don't need to deal with a lot of the stupidity. For example you need never touch a lot of window-related functions unless you really need to change how they work, and most of the various obscure types that are nothing more than a renamed integer are just declared as Long. I'm not saying C is bad because of the API; I'm saying VB is (in this way, anyway) good because of how it handles the API.
Passwords are case-sensitive because it adds security. Usernames often aren't, and when they are it's usually just because case-sensitive compares are easier to write. URLs and filenames being case-sensitive is a huge pain in the ass, IMO; always having to rename files from .JPG to .jpg and try to remember the capitalization of some obscure system file. Creaothceann has the right idea here. It's obvious that btnGetFileName and btnGetFilename refer to the same thing. You'd just be stupid to create two different buttons with both of those names. Also, I like how you claim that referring to the same variable the same way all the time eliminates confusion. That's great if you refer to it the same way all the time. What happens when you have to work with someone else's code and they've used a different naming convention? Why a little thing called confusion! Also, with your HWND/MSG examples: Those shouldn't even be types. Both are just integers anyway. Like I said before, in VB, both would simply be declared as Long, and it works fine. Obviously a variable named hWnd is a window handle and one named iMsg is a message, we really don't need whole new type definitions just for them. |

Wow. This is about 8 minutes total of Photoshop work. Colour Replace Tool is fun, but really... |

No, but you can open it in ImageReady, which converts each frame to a layer, and transfer to Photoshop. But it is pretty stupid that PS can't do that itself. Just like how it won't open a JPG with the extension renamed to GIF or vice-versa. (It does happen. Then I have to open it in Hex Workshop to see WTF is up. )

Both seem a bit light, really. |
Is it possible to center the background on the window? I was hoping to have a fixed background in the middle of the window, but I'm having quite a few problems. body { background-color: #000000; background: url(../images/galaxy.jpg); background-position: center center; background-repeat: no-repeat; background-attatchment: fixed; } The background shows up, but it's not in the middle of the window but rather the middle of the page; you have to scroll exactly halfway down for it to be in the middle. Even worse, the background colour is white despite that I specified black! Also, can I have 2 backgrounds? Like that one in the middle, and a smaller one that repeats to fill in the rest of the space? (Yes I know this would suck for dialup... I've set up a style selector, so you only end up downloading the big BG images if you actually want them. )

I was going to suggest that, actually. Put some more useful links up there, or in the 'user' area on the left, like Send PM, Email, Block Layout and so on. |
As far as CSS, uploading seems like the best way functionality-wise, but probably also the least secure. Having it a separate text field and putting it all in the header or some such could work, but that would make the code really messy... Maybe a combination? Copy and paste it into a text field, and the board automatically dumps it into a file; this way you don't have any sort of control over the file's name, path, etc, you just get to put whatever text you want in a CSS file named after your user ID.

It kinda makes more sense this way, really. Most boards have you select your offset from GMT, not from wherever the server is. |
Might want to sticky this... But then does anyone even pay attention to the clock?

OK, a few suggestions here: |
1) Name your controls! Form5 and CommonDialog1 don't tell you anything. 2) Set the CancelError property to true, and use an error handler. Error #32755 means the dialog was cancelled. This way your program won't crash when it gets cancelled. Now, your filter problem is simple. Set the 'filter' property to something like "ZSnes Save States (*.zs?)|*.zs?". The text before the | is what it will say, the text after is the actual filter. You can add another | to put in more choices. (Ex: "Text files|*.txt|HTML Files|*.html".) *.zs? means any file whose extension is 'zs' followed by any one letter (because ZSnes uses .zst and .zs0 - .zs9). Now I don't know exactly why you'd be loading graphics in a save state editor. Are you trying to read them from the ROM for visual aids in the save state editor? Actually reading graphics from a ROM and displaying them is rather difficult for someone who doesn't have much experience with the API. If you just want to have some pictures I suggest you just use Image controls. (And don't put a lot of them in because they take up a lot of memory.) If for some reason you do need to read the graphics from a ROM, you'll need to learn some API functions. Check out BitBlt, CreateDC, CreateCompatibleBitmap, SelectObject and SetPixel, these are mostly what you'll need to draw them. (You'll also want to use DeleteObject and DeleteDC to free up the graphic memory.) Basically you'd want to have an array that specifies the colour for each value, and draw the tiles onto a buffer using SetPixel. (I won't go into a lot of detail here, since I'm not even sure what you're trying to do. )

Originally posted by dan I do know how. It's just easier in VB. By no means am I saying you shouldn't stick to one naming convention. The problem, as I pointed out, comes from other people who use different conventions (and renaming all their variables isn't always an option). For example, some people capitalize every word in a function's name like GetFileName, others don't capitalize the first letter like getFileName. If you use one and you're working with code that uses the other, you can be as good a typist as you want, but chances are you're still going to find yourself using your own without realizing it. It's like ketchup vs catsup. Originally posted by Disch Oh, most certainly not. After all, it changed 'sentence' to 'sentance'! What a piece of crap compiler!

You guys should see Montreal. Nothing but 'XXX' signs. Shame I didn't get a chance to check any of them out. |
A while ago in math class, the teacher left the room to get something. This one kid always likes to lock him out, so he just kept darting back into the room. A while later, the kid left... You guessed it, the teacher locked him out. Pwned. The best part was when the teacher unlocked the door but didn't say anything... He stayed out there for 5 minutes banging on the door, then pulled the knob straight off! XD And not really funny, but strange... In the library, I noticed some kid whom it would appear was trying to steal a keyboard. I must have guessed right, because the next day they had a couple new keyboards and backpacks were no longer allowed near the computers. (I didn't say anything, because I figured no way he's stupid enough to just try to walk out with a keyboard in his backpack... I keep underestimating these people's stupidity. )

Now we just need to get IE criminalized. |
Seriously, wtf? I don't really believe it. "Not identifying itself and doing strange things"? It still has to send standard HTTP headers, why would they be any different than any other browser's? |
