It looks alright, but without a lot of work put into it. First off I suggest using an actual circuit panel as the BG. Second, the green glow doesn't really look good. And third, it needs more 3D effects. They're pretty simple to do. For the text, give it a shadow by duplicating it, turning the copy entirely black, and placing it behind the original but down and right a few pixels. (Look at the pic at the top of my layout.) Then for the image, give it a 'button' look like the original, by making the top a lot lighter, the left lighter, the right a lot darker, and the bottom darker, for about 5 pixels on each. Don't let the actual characters leak into this border. Kwanzaa: That actually makes the text look pretty cool. |

Well, try it anyway. Just turn it down to like 60 or something and change resolution, so you can see if that's the problem.

I had mine from the start. Special staff perks, ha. And might I just compliment you on your creativity? Making an x000 posts thread with the number in Binary as the thread title is SO original! |

I'm going to say I don't, because I do it less often that the poll allows. Just whenever Windoze gets fucked up so bad I have to re-install.

I think you'd get in some trouble for it, since it would break a lot of stuff.

You don't mean you're going to leave the parts where he's required do you? Because that'd be really stupid. It's not a bad idea if you can get the glitches fixed, but requiring it isn't good either.

Yeah, mine broke off. I'm so glad to see Nintendo has finally gone a more advanced route.

Scientific, not Advanced. Also, I found a bunch of fun stuff you can do with various windows: TASKBAR -You can make the taskbar translucent, displaying whatever wallpaper you have underneath. If you have an HTML wallpaper, you'll notice an interesting waste of CPU power. (Way to go, Microsoft!) Select any standard image as a wallpaper, apply it, then select your HTML file and apply that. The image you selected will appear under the taskbar - it is actually being drawn under the HTML image! It's stupid, but you can exploit it to give your taskbar a cool background. START MENU -You can make the start menu translucent as well (it's actually a window), it just takes some work. Bring the menu up, and click the button. The menu will disappear, but it isn't gone, just hidden. The button should still activate. (This may take a few tries, as for some reason the mouse move events get messed up doing this. It seems to work better if you click the menu first, and hold the button.) Now set a translucency, and the Start Menu will have that setting every time it appears! (Note that the sub-menus won't, I'm still looking for a way to fix that.) You can also hide it, then if you go to the hidden window list and click Show, it pops up again. -You can maximize the menu, which moves it to the top left. This effect is temporary though, and seems to cause rendering problems. -You can also minimize the menu. This partially fixes the rendering problems from maximizing it, and also turns the menu into a very small piece of uselessness. Restore it to fix it. DESKTOP -You can even make the desktop translucent! If you have an HTML wallpaper, this gives the very cool effect of blending the entire deskop with whatever static image was last selected. Simply click the desktop, and the button should appear as normal. (For me, this was in the exact same place as it does on the taskbar, so I didn't notice at first.) However, this can severely slow down your computer when the desktop is visible. This also tends to have strange side effects. Somehow I have a screenshot of the desktop under the desktop now. -You can hide the desktop, icons and all! This effectively locks users out of it until you show it again. -You can minimize, maximize, or restore the desktop, but it just jumps back to how it was. -If you rename the desktop you'll see that it's named 'Program Manager'. However, renaming it could break stuff. PHOTOSHOP -Having trouble getting the button to stay on tool windows? Right-click their title bars. (Finally I can see what's under them. ) Here's a screenshot. Some points about it: -The broken images are stats from this board. Someone fix them already. -The weird box in the top left is the rendering bug I mentioned from maximizing the start menu. -The buttons seen just below the start menu are for selecting BGs. -The reason there are two buttons, and some anomolies with the start menu, is that I had to blend a few screenshots to get everything to show up with translucency. -The black spot on the taskbar is where it normally shows my IP. (I simply wrote a PHP script that outputs $REMOTE_ADDR into a title tag, and made it a toolbar.) -The blue 'explosion' is an image drawn below the translucent Inuyasha pic. Notice how it's visible below the taskbar but the Inuyasha pic isn't. -The Windoze theme is one of the ones that comes with StyleXP - Community, I think - and it pwns. |

My DS's AC adaptor makes a noise like that. I've seen monitors do it before, only old ones though. (My speakers also make a slight buzz when I move the mouse.) Other than that all I hear from my computer is nearly-constant HDD access when trying to do anything even remotely CPU-intensive. Stupid slow computer.

Some computers can even play music through those. It drove my teacher crazy in computer class, because he couldn't just take the speakers. One time in school we had some Macs in the back, and one just started beeping like crazy for no apparent reason. Nobody could tell why. |

I always thought of glitches as one-time bugs. Like that one time the game crashed for no apparent reason, but never again in the same situation. And as long as we're being technical (and off-topic), it's not a programming error, it's just an improper use of resources. He didn't change the programming. |

The reported CPU speed can vary a bit, but if it's off by that much, your computer might be overheating. I doubt the problem has to do with CPU speeds, but heat could do it.

Is it Windows 95, 98 or ME? They seem to have problems with large amounts of RAM. Otherwise, check your BIOS to make sure there isn't something set wrong, and look up info on your model of computer to see if there are any known problems with large amounts of RAM. When you add or remove a stick, the first time it starts it should go through a memory test. Does it pass the test OK? It should read around 524,288 K. |
