It's still a .bmp picture. Changing the file name does not affect the image in any way. You have to load it in a program (like Paint) and save it as a .jpg to create a real .jpg file. (But use .png instead. It's better.)

You've probably changed sprite #53 with Mario World Reconfigurator. I suggest copying sprite #53's data from a clean version of the rom to the hack.

Note that most of the "unused" sprites in MWR is actually used by the game.

HyperHacker: Will you fix the list in the next version of MWR? I can make you a new list if you wouldn't like to do it yourself.

I had to come up with something when I registered to PPN (later known as TAN). When I created the username, I was pretty short compared to the others in my class back then. Therefore, I thought about "Short hacker", but then decided that "Small hacker" would sound better. I didn't care so much about it, since I only signed up to be able to send a PM to a member, get a reply, and then forget about the board. (It didn't take long before I changed my mind. Also, I never sent that PM.) I can't remember why I removed the space from the name, though.

Is there any extremely easy video file format, which basicly is a small header containing size, amount of frames and fps, followed by the video data in raw rgb values?

Does such a format exist and is there a program which converts other formats to it? And no, I don't care about the file sizes.

Posted on 08-07-05 12:51 AM, in Unused Layer 3 image? Link
I accidently turned on the tileset specific Layer 3 option on a level with a tileset which, according to LM, should be a garbage layer. What I got was this:

An unused Layer 3 image (with the original tiles removed), which reminds me of the cage Peach sat in in SMB/SMBTLL. Could this be a rest from an old ending where you rescue Peach from a cage instead of her falling out from Bowser's clown car?

The "cage" is used in all tilesets not mentioned in the Modify Other Properties window in LM. (Note that tileset 6's image is transculent and scrolls, just like tileset E's.)

My program only repoints Layer 1.
Castle entrances can have either a black background or a blue one. Which one to use seems to depend on the level number. Check in a original rom which level number the fortresses and castles in Vanilla Dome and Valley of Bowser had and move the level to one of those level numbers.

BMF: It's really hard to know if the first part of the post was sarcasm or not... Nice picture, though.

I searched for beta pictures from SMW, just in case someone would have a picture of the "cage" for some reason. I didn't find anything, but I found some other interesting things.

Beta (and much more w00t) overworld. This seems to be a beta of Donut Plains. Note the coin and score counter, the lack of level names and the beta Mario (from the SNES test rom) in the upper left corner.

Beta level. Old fire flower from test rom, SMB3 wooden block, squared ? box, lack of bonus stars. (Lack of Yoshi coins?)

Different floor

Different Koopa, level uses the unused Layer 2+Transparency level mode.

Well, did you...
1) accidently delete it? Solution: See if it's in the trash can.
2) accidently move it? Solution: Move it back.
3) accidently rename it? Solution: Rename it back to the normal name.

Thanks, but I already knew that. (The program sets all entries in the table to the same value.) I actually thought about adding support for it, but decided not to, due to a reason I can't seem to remember.

You have to register and log in to that site to be able to download it.

Also, according to the description in the thread on that forum, the hammer brothers uses sprite 53, which will cause the blue carryable blocks to mess up.

Ho... Ly... Crap... Mikeyk, the one who basicly appeared out of nowhere with sprite information in his hands never ceases to amaze me.

Question: How do/will you handle the limited sprite space? As far as I know, only six sprites in the standard tables are unused.

I decided to look through the test rom in 2bpp GB format, just in case someone had missed beta Layer 3 tiles. I couldn't find any. I found an odd thing, though..
At address 3A800, there are two rows of graphics. The first row is a row from the background graphics. The second row is a row from the first FG page. The odd thing about these, appearently misplaced, rows of tiles is that they're in 2bpp format for some reason.

Did Nintendo originally plan to put normal objects on Layer 3?

Use SMW - Clean Rom Verifier and check the Rom you use as the original file when creating the IPS.
