Except for the original SMW most N-SPC games (which are most of Nintendo's) use nearly the same mappings. They only differ in some few specific commands like LoZ3's Finetune and Transpose (which don't fit at all when mapped in SMW)
First screenshots (of the editor) are to expect about tomorrow.

Have fun,
Blacky.

As a rather experienced programmer of big projects (three years and longer) I can clearly say that you'll drop hard in time when you don't make a good framework with lots of capacity right at the beginning. So there may be even some point at starting the GUI now.

BTW - on which server is the IRC chat belonging to this board located? (#acmlm, that's the one I mean )

@MajinBlueDragon: Thanks! I need any help available.

So here's the first screenshot:

You see a loaded (not yet editable) SMB3 song (namely the "Coin Heavens" Theme, or, the SMB3/SMAS sky world).
A little explanation:

@MajinBlueDragon: I'll be PMing you.

@playstation3: As the others explained already, you can import from almost any mario game except for SMW itself. N64 music import could be possible, but I don't know which sound processor the N64 uses. If it is a sequencer like the SPC-700, at least approximative transformation would be possible. Otherwise, you could just write a remix on your own.

@Xkeeper: It's, as I already told playstation3, less a matter of the processor itself than of the sound coprocessor.

I really like your black'n'white levels. My hint: Change the sprite palette to black and white too. Make all except for Mario black and white. That would be cool. Your overworld is also pretty funny.

Have fun,

Ack... my older DX engine won't init in an MFC window. I have the choice: either I make it fullscreen, which would be unnice when working on many things at once and delay the release heavily, or I leave it MFC-GDI, which would be a little unuserfriendly and unperformant, but still usable.

What shall I do?

Now that's the best idea I've seen for a while...
Must it all be Nintendo consoles? Make a SEGA world. Sonic graphics in many aspects are alike Mario's (as it was Sega System's counterfait to it).

Uhm, that "older" was kind of misprint... I mean, I developed the engine for years. It is DX8.

DX9 won't help. It wants a top level window, but I put all of my code into the client area class, and the top window isn't too easy to reach from there on. I think I'll first release a version without DirectX to save the ones who need it from further waiting, and then will aim for a DirectX port.

That sounds good too:
http://k-schale.50free.net/skytheme~chg~instr.spc
That nifty little almost-custom SPC shows the first real working manipulation available, namely the changing of track instruments. I have exchanged the strings-like instruments of the sky theme /coin heaven theme/whatsoever to the well-known steel drums. To me, that sounds way better .
The internal playback core works at last, I only have to feed it with the correct samples (I have only ugly SNESSOR rips and some cutouts of Super Jukebox generated WAVs). I believe MajinBlueDragon's gonna help me at this point . New screenshots follow tomorrow. (funny! a rhyme )

Next phase. Now the instruments and the track volume are changed. That is the last per-track setting I'm doing for now (besides to vibrato). Real tone editing is next.
http://k-schale.50free.net/skytheme~iv.spc
I equipped this one with a smoother sounding instrumentalization picked up partially at the l33t underwater theme track 0 and 1 are amplified by ca. 180%.

...yeah! it edits!
...at least the tone heights aka values. Lengths can't be edited... yet.

A little proof is in here:
http://k-schale.50free.net/my0wn.spc

This neat SPC sounds crappy but is 100% custom. I put it together in 20 minutes, so don't bother me about the complete disharmony and lack of sane melody in there. Anyway, it works. It doesn't even corrupt the ROM. That means, a release will happen during the next week.

No new screenshots for now because there's no interface change yet.

Have fun,
Blacky.

@Atma X: Thanks

@knuck: The program edits the songs within the ROM, that means, it extracts them to RAM, lets you edit them and then reinserts them back into the ROM. I'm also working (and it is not far away from functioning) on a function to import the songs from any native N-SPC game (they're all alike each other).
The play/stop/pause button is for my w00t multithreading based 8-channel DSP simulation, or, (take it easy) the internal playback module. A game's N-SPC block consists of the data, which is like MOD or MIDI, and the program which plays it, i.e. transforms the data into commands for the DSP. My routine just replaces the N-SPC player part (in a rather ugly way, although you still can recognize the song).

Have fun,
Blacky.

@Escherial: Yes, you can - up to a certain limit in the first release, using the flaw I've described some posts before (useless commands). In further releases I'll probably add pointer recalculation and therefore possible heavy expansion of tracks.

@MajinBlueDragon:
(1) I'm still waiting for the samples that is about to delay the release...
(2) As I said, I fixed the CallLoop stuff already, although it's not yet edible... er editable. -&h1? What's that? if you mean -100h, that only applies for SPC dumps, which have the 128 Byte SPC header. The ROM of course also has an offset, but it is much, much larger... for the sky theme bank it's ... *looks up ptr table* 0x31423E.

Blacky.

"DwORY - the best levels" by orynider. "The best levels" is a single provocation - (1) look at the screenshots. (2) The whole hack consists of crappy ExGFX which don't have anything todo with their placement or their function in the levels. The palette is messed up, and the levels seem to have been imported from DW3 and glitched around a bit (as you can see on the second and third screenshot). On screenshot #1 the water tiles on the top left belong to the background layer.

That's not only the worst SMW hack I've played, I also believe it's the worst SMW hack ever released. Otherwise I would certainly have noticed.

Blacky.

Subtract one byte? never heard of that or noticed anything. I never used that and it worked anyway...

> The SPC dump is just the program sent into SPC memory, which is all located in the rom...
I'm quite (if not absolutely) sure it isn't (at least if I've understood you correctly and you try to tell me the SPC memory is located in the ROM). The SPC700 is a very autonome coprocessor, that means, it has its own memory space/RAM and its only link to the 65c816 and its program (ROM+RAM) are 4 bytes of I/O bus.

@d4s: I will and yes, with the right pointer table you'll at least be able to extract main parts of other ROM's N-SPC chunks.

@MajinBlueDragon: Do you notice? I asked you to extract the samples from SMAS some few posts ago and you agreed. Could you do this please?

Hm? Compressed SPC stuff? yikes.
For extracting the songs you don't need the original ROM. An SPC dump of the game is enough.

Have fun,
Blacky.
