Main reason for this is the downness of my provider () which also causes my alpha MMOG to be interpreted as Massive Multiplayer Offline Game. Sorry, but I haven't yet found any good one not being down (might try to ask jesp for a .wootest.net subdomain, but I doubt he will give me one).

@Atma X, as far as I understood he wants to see someone's ass. Yet, I'm not sure whose.

omg.
can't say much more about that, except that it makes SMW: ALttP and everything, plain everything we have in here (including original SMW) look like crap. and, oh my, my lightning effect is way too similar to yours. Gotta change that or everyone will say I copied you. Yeah, you made living really hard for us small other SMW hackers... nevermind, let's just hope this will kinda boost up all the other hack's quality.

Hi folks,

I am not in the mood for long talking now, so...

Project Title: RPG code for Super Mario World.
Project Aim: Extending the SMW engine by various features known from RPGs like Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy or whatsoever.
First step: Replacing SMW's rusty talkie/information box system by some widespace, expandable, scrollable (NYI) etc. stuff.
Status of first step: In the first beta phase.

Thanks to: BMF for his palette ASM routine, Evil Peer for his Snes9x tracer, someone I don't know for a proggie called "SNES professional ASM development kit" and the romhacking part of Acmlm's board community.

What do you think of this?
Stuff like a solid (preferably blue) background, multiline text, non-capital chars etc. can all be added by either editing the L3 GFX or changing the params passed to the output routine. Didn't want to mess with GFX before having the code framework ready.

Both. But I don't want the message boxes like they are in YI but like they are in e.g. Chrono Trigger , and I don't want to eliminate the jump'n'run gaming principle of SMW. I just wanna add more options and make some more room for a storyline.

I am going release the basic framework publically (yet, it won't be usable without some basic "real" romhacking skills (that is, you must be able of closing LM and doing some changes in a hex editor)) whilst using an even more powerful version in my hack, which would be too hard to handle for the average SMW hacker, though.

Erm, just out of curiosity, did you have any trouble getting the text to appear at first? I've noticed that Layer 3 is cut off right below the status bar until you hit a message box or enter another area...is there a simple way to turn it back on?

Yeah, there was such a thing. I traced down the message box routine and found out there is kind of undocumented (PPU?) register at $211x (I forgot what exactly x was) that SMW's game loop transfers aka RAM mirrors to $0024. Writing 0 into this one makes L3 appear on the whole screen, while 208 (dec) is the standard mode with anything below the status bar cut off.

@hhallah, I like the idea (although not with spin jump, fire flowers or whatever). Maybe something special like a spell (since I was gonna do a spell system anyways).

Weird.
In elementary school, I tended to start playing around with others' pencils when I was bored, which quickly brought me upon some trouble with a school gang but well, that was never my aim.
Nowadays, I often start drawing random stuff... that started happening to me after I decided to learn to draw anthro/anime style stuff

I does not seem to be that easy, since I tried out writing some values (i.e. FFh wasn't trying too long) to it without ever seeing a change... maybe it's rather a flag register aka "bit 1 makes ... appear, bit 2 makes pumpkins look purple instead of black, ...".

Yet, your idea about "switch layer order" is interesting, seeing that in the mode where you have a status bar and an L3 image in the background, there are still some invisible/disabled scanlines (yeah, the layer mask is -not- determined by tile-to-tile boundaries, meaning there are some tiles you only can see portions of) on layer 3 which you can write to without seeing any output.

Hi everyone.

Oh, I hate this... whenever some serious amount (2 or more) of screenshots is ready to be posted, I find the previous screenshot thread of mine having fallen down a page or more and therefore being unworthy to be bumped. That seriously increases my "threads posted" count... but nvm. Here are two more screenies:


Covering a new colour scheme for Prehistoric Island's YI theme (this is the last level I redo from Demo 1).


A spooky cave. Walls texture is ripped of from 3ds max 4 (), shrinked down heavily and edited in order to fit into SMW (might use more of 3dsmax's textures for this, later, since they seem to fit well). The spooky things on the walls are the result of a fucked up palette which made the berries look that way. See, I decided to keep it

I know of the status bar problem in the second picture, so please don't bother me about that. I ocassionally produced a palette collision with t3h background.

@orynider, the screenshots are not resized at all and I don't trust in your sense of colours (@others, I think you understand what I mean) enough to listen to you when you say the palette is bad. Same goes for "2nd pic is too dark". It's a cave, dammit. That means you don't have a 1000 watt lamp down there.

@dragon master, as for me, Mario's colours look right on the second pic dunno.
