Seriously, the world graduated beyond "throwaway" hacks like this years ago (at least, I'd like to think so). If you're going to make a graphics-only hack, at least try to make it somewhat interesting--and for God's sake, hack something OTHER THAN SMB for a change!

How can anyone even begin to think that's real? Just look at the Japanese text, the "9999" damage, the slash mark, the bad guy's hair (is that hair?), the little blue ball that guy throws...those are all approximately twice the resolution of standard NES graphics.

How has such a pathetic hoax received so much attention? It's been posted on nearly all of my usual messageboards!

What most people don't seem to realize is that it's MORE helpful if you DON'T reply to a thread you can't answer. Wouldn't you be irritated if you posted a question, got 5 replies, and excitedly opened the thread, only to find a bunch of "i dunno, use asm?!?!" or "go ask BMF" where the helpful replies should be?

Does this mean that energy-efficient, long-lasting LED TVs could be on the horizon? Instead of phosphors, the backside of the screen would be coated with these micro-LEDs. I'll bet the picture quality would be amazing.

hamtaro126, you've been told time and time again that you need to learn how to do some of this stuff for yourself. Constantly asking for these things isn't going to get you anywhere, not just because most of us don't know how to do it (yet), but also because you haven't really shown any signs of progress on, well, anything. Why should we bother making a custom block or ASM hack if the project it's being used in probably won't see the light of day? You've asked for a wide variety of blocks and hacks for both SMB3 and SMW (and probably others, I forget), yet you've never released so much as a screenshot or story line or anything, AFAIK.

Before we can help you, you need to help yourself...

Yep...I finally sat down and traced through the piranha plant's code, and figured out why the "classic" upright version uses the wrong tile and palette for its leaves. Apparently, a small snippet of code that Nintendo added to fix the upside-down plant's palette and GFX page is incompatible with the upright plant's swapped sprites, and attempts to fix the NEXT sprite in memory! If an upright plant happens to be the last sprite processed, and you have a screen full of sprites, this could potentially cause glitches (though this is probably very rare).

Anyway, I've patched the offending routine, so it now checks the sprite number and adjusts the palette/GFX page accordingly:

Be sure to check the README for more info on changing the sprite's GFX page. Enjoy!
