I'll have to agree with HH...monitors are just weird. One time, I turned mine on, and was greeted with a black and blue flashing screen. The whole thing "locked up" after that...I had to physically unplug it in order to turn it off. It's worked fine ever since.

There was also another time shortly after I got my Logitech speakers when the screen started vibrating wildly, accompanied by a weird "buzzing" noise. My speakers are to blame for this one, though, since the shaking stopped as soon as I turned them off. And again, it hasn't happened since...

An editor for a table file used by an editor...

I'm sorry, I just had to point out how silly that sounds.

As for the binary editing idea, VERY YES.

NO. hamtaro126 (and everybody else, for that matter) needs to learn how to do these things for himself, otherwise he'll be right back in here with another demand request.

Just because Fu knows the answer to something doesn't mean he is obligated to say anything. Do you think SMW hacking would've advanced as far as it has if Fu had simply told us how to do everything? He never released his SMB3-style pipe code, despite almost daily pestering (and I'm sure said pestering was a contributing factor), but we pressed onward, discussed possible solutions and did some experimenting, and--lo and behold--the system was figured out and mikeyk released his own set. As a nice "side effect," we now have a little deeper understanding of the game's inner workings. Would we have ever bothered to learn this stuff if Fu had simply given in and released his set right away?

Fu is by FAR one of the least-selfish hackers I have ever seen in this community. The sheer amount of time and energy he has devoted, WITHOUT PAY, to answering questions and developing things like Lunar Magic (without a doubt, the most sophisticated ROM editor in existence) is simply staggering. How can you even begin to suggest that he's "stuck up?"

It is if the notes are disorganized and haven't been referenced in a while. The vast majority of notes I took during LotBB2's development are useless now because I no longer understand the mishmash of "shorthand" they're written in. (Not saying Fu's notes are the same way, but it's something to consider.)

Oh, and I think "JW" is "jonwil."

Yeah, a fan is one of the easiest (and cheapest) components to replace. I believe CompUSA sells chipset cooling fans and heatsinks for a reasonable price.

Indeed. It's too bad the SNES had to use such a slooooooooooooooow clock speed. It's, what, about twice as fast as the NES in SlowROM mode?

And it's also too bad this has to be applied to a fresh ROM. There's no way I can possibly transfer all the changes I've made. I guess I'll just have to redo my own HDMA handler.

(Speaking of which, the first major thing I want to do is make HDMA effects follow the background's vertical scrolling. Could you possibly give me some tips on how to implement this? I tried to figure it out at work tonight, but ended up giving myself a headache...)

Hah, awesome. Thanks a lot.

The way I was trying to do it was really convoluted and stupid. I'm lousy at simplifying things...

Was it working fine before? Or is this a new board?

If it just up and quit, and the drivers don't work, AND it's being detected as the wrong device, then it's probably broken. You can try the old "cure-all," reinstalling Windows, or double-check your BIOS settings and make sure it's still enabled and properly configured in there. If all else fails, basic PCI Ethernet cards are really cheap nowadays.

Kemco uses rather strange programming in general. BBBB is one of the only NES games I've seen that runs at a variable framerate (much like a PC game). The speed constantly changes, depending on how much on-screen action there is.

Aww...and I've been using F-PROT (DOS) for years.

Hopefully the few hundred it didn't find were rare relics from the DOS era.

Weeeeird...if you defeat just its head/legs right away (the unnamed target), it turns into Bowser, shoots a spike that does zero damage, and disappears...?

Also, WTF at "Go, World!"

To elaborate on what Smallhacker said, if your ExGFX files are too big (did you mean 4KB? ), they will overwrite parts of the level layout in memory. In this case, the blank space at the end of the offending ExGFX file is zeroing out the low byte of each block (blocks 0x000-0x0FF turn into water [0x000], 0x100-0x1FF turn into ground [0x100], and so on). Just trim all your ExGFX files down to 4096 bytes and reinsert, and the problem should disappear.

Dude, that's...bizarre.

The songs in the game are short enough that I'm certain they could all fit into one ROM bank, with lots of room to spare. There's no DPCM to be found in the game at all. Is this just an extreme case of inefficient programming?

I'm thinking this was Kemco's first attempt at an SMB-style platformer, and perhaps one of their first MMC3 games as well. It's certainly far more complex than Superman or Crazy Castle from just a year or two before...
