Open Device Manager, find your parallel port, right click, choose Properties, and click the Resources tab.

(That's how you do it in Win98/2K, anyway...I don't use XP, it might be somewhat different)

Hey, same here! Works like a charm, doesn't it? And its back/forward buttons are compatible with Microsoft's IntelliMouse driver (so I didn't have to install Logitech's software).

I used a Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical for several years, and absolutely loved it. The first one I had was a little jumpy, and sometimes shot the mouse cursor across the screen for no reason, but I upgraded to a newer hardware revision and had no problems whatsoever...that is, until the left button started wearing out (like the two Microsoft mice I had before it ). Unable to find an (apparently discontinued?) IntelliMouse Optical anywhere, I decided to try a wireless IntelliMouse Explorer, since it was on sale, and had a nice ergonomic feel. However, it wasn't long before I returned it, since the mouse just...didn't behave like I expected it to. It's kinda hard to explain, but it seemed too "fluid," and made the cursor float around a lot. I kept missing stuff I wanted to click, and I couldn't get the orientation right. The idea of changing batteries every so often (no off switch?!) didn't appeal much to me, either. So, having used--and been rather pleased with--Logitech mice in the past, I bought my current wired MX310, and I couldn't be happier.

If CHKDSK keeps freezing, it's most likely a problem with either your hard drive or your IDE controller (probably the former). Is there any way you can put the drive in another computer and test it?

(Actually, I believe Nintendo was planning just such an adapter for the US NES to get expanded sound out of the MMC5, since the carts' sound output is routed to a pin on the edge connector that goes to the expansion port. The adapter would just connect the sound IN and OUT pins together on the expansion port.)

Eh? My palette is an attempt to accurately recreate the NES's colors, so it really doesn't count. Unless you're saying you modified it...

I seem to remember staring out an open door during a rainstorm at my old elementary school, a loooooooooong time ago, and seeing a bright white flash hit the ground mere feet in front of me. Didn't seem like a big deal at the time, though...

Just so you know, the SNES doesn't actually support 3bpp. The tiles have to be converted to 4bpp before they are uploaded to VRAM. This is probably why tile editors don't support the format.

Gah, indeed. Practically every other new thread is editor-related nowadays, either asking for one (next one of those I see, I'm trashing) or asking where to find one. I think I'm gonna track down that thread and re-sticky it.

First off, you still should've chosen a better title for this thread. "wow, this sucks" encompasses just about every single problem you could conceivably run into while hacking SMW.

Second, you could've said just that in your first post. It's really not that hard to explain. But anyway, that's an HDMA effect (what is it doing, just turning off the screen?), and probably wouldn't be *too* hard to disable. Don't ask me how, though...I haven't touched that part of the code in a long time.

I closed the thread because it's pretty darned old, and I didn't think there was much else that could be added to it. You know someone would end up disregarding the previous posts and using it to request an editor sooner or later, anyway.

If you're just playing games, I would actually recommend the last official FCEU release over FCEUXD, since XD is based on an older version of the code. If you're hacking games, though, then FCEUXD is certainly the way to go.

If you have a really fast computer (seriously, even my Athlon XP 2100+ stuttered a few times), you may actually want to try out Nintendulator. It's supposed to be even more accurate than FCEU.

Actually, somebody did make a series of Game Genie codes that somehow swapped Mario's sprite with Bowser's. It was a long time ago, though, and I'm not sure where I saw it...

The grinders are probably just incompatible with lines on layer 2 (AFAIK, the original game always had lines on layer 1). Obviously, layer 2 has some different rules when it comes to sprite interaction. Not much you can do about it at the moment.

Do all line-guided sprites (mis)behave like this?

Now, what do you mean by "doesn't give me correct addresses?" What, exactly, are you trying to do?

Please, PLEASE stop posting these things in SMW hacking, as they have nothing to do with SMW.

You're going to HAVE to learn 65c816 ASM if you want to do any sort of SNES coding. Knowledge of C/C++ isn't really going to get you anywhere, unless you plan on making a utility of some sort.

It's not like they're THAT hard to draw...you just take the normal stripey tile and round it off into a corner.

However, for you lazy types:

switch01.bin

I even included some 45-degree slopes. Enjoy.
