The only games in which he's the same height are those that share graphics between the two. SMB, SMB3, and SMW (excluding SMAS SMW) shared tiles, while SMB2 (US) did not. I believe SMB2 was the first known appearance of the taller, skinnier Luigi...

High-density 1.44MB disks also tend to have an "HD" symbol in the upper-right corner. You can't miss it.

Uh...you don't. Those are the ROM addresses you need to put your new tile numbers at in a hex editor. Just follow Smallhacker's directions...

No, please, don't. I'm not patient enough (and don't have enough free time) to teach anyone ASM.

And please, people, if you don't know how to do something, or even have a suggestion as to how it might be done, don't post. I'm tired of seeing the generic "yeah, with ASM" response in practically every other thread on this board.

Hey, mikey, I don't suppose you could track down the sprite-killing routine that's called when you pass the goal tape, the one that turns sprites into coins? That's exactly what I want my POW block item to do.

(of course, it would be better to manually coin-ify the sprites, so I can exclude things like the goal tape and keyholes...but I'd at least like to examine the original code.)

What did you screw up in order to make it load like that?

Sweet! Thanks.

Uh...any idea why the coin is red and drops straight down when you manually coin-ify a sprite (by setting its status to 06)? Is there some other attribute that needs to be changed before you do that?

- Fireballs don't count as regular sprites, they're separate entities.
- Mario wouldn't be able to shoot any shells if there are already 12 sprites on-screen, maybe less depending on the sprite memory setting (and believe me, if he starts shooting shells willy-nilly, they're gonna add up quick), thus making the powerup useless. Fireballs, being separate entities, are exempt from this limitation. Also, if too many shells were spawned right before the goal tape/sphere, it might not appear.

I believe a hack of this magnitude is beyond the current abilities of just about everyone on this forum. It involves a LOT more than just attaching the sprite generator code to the fireball routine...

If you can't understand the directions in that post, then HDMA is still too complex for you. I honestly can't explain it any better than I already did.

Besides, even if you get the code inserted, you still need a pretty good understanding of ASM in order to get any use out of it...

Blech...I used to drink caffeinated beverages by the bucketful (a couple of 44-64oz mugs, at least) just a couple of years ago. However, that all changed when I started having anxiety attacks and other strange mental symptoms. I still remember the one day I was riding in my brother's truck, having just finished off a 32oz. Pepsi, when I suddenly became extremely disoriented, almost delirious. I couldn't even recognize my own neighborhood until we actually got home.

I'm not 100% sure it was the caffeine that set me off, though it did happen shortly after I finished the drink, so it seemed the most logical culprit. And you know what? I still ingest the God-forsaken stuff, though not nearly as much as I used to. I still need to have a small cup or two of Dr. Pepper every day at work. It's just so hard to quit...

SWEET MERCIFUL CRAP.

"Impressed" just...isn't the right word...English...fails.

(So, umm, can Mario walk on that geometry, or is there separate data that defines solid areas of the map, a la Goldeneye? I'm such a n00b when it comes to newer consoles...)

I would have made this a sticky thread, but nobody seems to read them anymore.

The number of old threads being bumped has been unacceptably high as of late. Threads from LAST OCTOBER are somehow finding their way back to page 1, and it's cluttering up the thread listing, pushing recent (and more important) threads out of view. Unless you're the original creator of the thread and have something major to add (i.e. screenshots of a hack or program in progress), DO NOT POST IN THREADS THAT ARE MORE THAN TWO WEEKS OLD. In a forum as active as this one, if a thread hasn't had a post in more than a week, consider it as good as dead.

There has also been a noticeable increase in questions that could easily (sometimes VERY easily) be answered simply by reading Lunar Magic's help file, or the sticky threads at the top of the forum. Please, if you're new here, take the time to read through and absorb these valuable resources. We didn't spend the time writing them just to have them gather dust and occupy screen space.

Thank you.

Automatically deleting threads in a ROM hacking forum is a very bad idea. Important information could be lost forever (like when the overclocked.org board crashed).

IIRC, an automatic thread-closing system was being discussed a while ago. I'm not entirely sure what happened with that...

Uh, blacky...just because the board messed up his code doesn't mean the thread needed to be closed. I'm interested in his progress.

beneficii: The board interprets [i] as "italics," and browsers interpret anything between <> angle brackets as a tag (even if they're invalid). In the future, try sticking a <z> tag somewhere between them. It won't show up in any browsers that I know of, and it'll keep your code from being tag-ified.

Examples:

[i] becomes [<z>i]
<windows.h> becomes <<z>windows.h>

Actually, bumping your original thread would've been preferable. Duplicate threads just clutter up the forum, and the original thread is only a week old.

[edit]
Old thread is teh bumped, thus new thread is teh closed.
