If all else fails, just get a really strong magnet and run it all over the disk a bunch of times. That oughta clear out any remaining Mac evil.

Well, for one thing, one of those two is approximately 1000x better for you than the other. Can you guess which one?

And juice is much more than just "flavored water." You're probably thinking of Kool-Aid or that cheap stuff you can buy in the gallon jugs, which usually doesn't qualify as "juice" anyway. (ex: Sunny Delight only contains around 5% juice; the rest is sugar and water)

Personally, I like mixtures of juices, rather than single flavors (excluding organic orange juice; that stuff's GRRRRRRREAT). Tropical fruit blends, including pineapple, mango, passionfruit, and the like are the best, though I'll often settle for a big ol' carton of Tropicana Fruit Punch (even if it's not "technically" juice). I think I still have some left!

- Make the next hack MUCH longer. TNS was way, way too short.
- New overworlds are a must. TNS's was...um...uninspired?
- Use lots of original graphics. Considering your l33t drawing skills, it's disappointing to see you use so many rips from other games.
- Eliminate as many bugs as possible. Playtest, playtest, playtest.
- Overhaul the ending sequence. (not suggesting ASM hackery, but at least more graphical changes)

I really hate to say it, but in some ways, the original Ninji Saga felt rushed. Lots of stuff left unchanged, like the aforementioned overworld and most of the ending, and some icky bugs remained. The second time around, take as much time as you need to make a truly impressive hack. Make it stand out from the rest of the pack. You've got so much experience now, put it to good use!

RAM (Random Access Memory, aka "memory") is temporary storage space, used by the program to store variables (like Mario's score and number of lives) and data (like decoded level layouts and decompressed graphics). RAM is almost always erased by the game at startup. Permanently changing a RAM address usually requires new ASM code to be placed in ROM that continually writes a different value to the address.

ROM (Read-Only Memory) is permanent storage space, which can't be erased or written to by the SNES (this is the data that's stored on the chips in a game cartridge). This contains data that never needs to change, like the game program, level layouts, and compressed graphics. Variables that always start at a certain value, like Mario's starting number of lives, are stored in ROM and can be easily changed via a ROM hack or a cheat device (Game Genie, Pro Action Replay).

I was having exactly the same problems, aside from that "stalling" issue. It eventually got to the point where I couldn't even shut down the computer, otherwise it would instantly turn back on and get stuck at a black screen. Luckily, a simple power supply swap completely fixed the problem, and may have actually fixed a few other strange glitches that popped up from time to time (ex: the system would lock up hard, and upon hitting the reset button, I would either get an IDE fKitten Yiffer, or HIMEM.SYS would find a RAM error). I'm willing to bet a new PSU would fix your problems as well.

Dude, YES. Turn the mushroom into a pink (or otherwise differently-colored) Ninji and animate it.

You could also change the flower into an orange Ninji that spits fireballs! In this case, you'd swap the colors around so that the orange one stands on the purple one's shoulders, so the fireballs look like they're coming from the right spot.

For the feather, you'd have a caped superhero Ninji, once again standing on the other guy's shoulders. This one would be a bit tougher to animate, of course, with all the flying and spinning and dive-bombing actions and whatnot, but it'd be friggin' awesome! You could give the purple guy some really wacky "OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO DIE AIEEEEEEE" facial expressions for the in-flight poses.

Hmm...I just realized that swapping the Ninji's places for the Super and Cape versions might be a little tough, as both use the same palette and tiles (except for the separate cape sprite).

I guess you could just keep the purple guy on top and give him the cape, and give the poor guy/gal on the bottom the wacky expressions...
