What you do with PMs is entirely your business, just like e-mails or IMs. I don't think it's ever been any other way.

The only sprite I ever hacked was Chargin' Chuck, and all I really did in that case was insert a JSR to my own custom life bar routine. I'm nowhere near as advanced as, say, mikeyk.

The best SNES debugger available right now is Geiger's Snes9x debugger, available at Zophar's Domain. Note that you'll want to use a separate copy of your ROM with that program, because it removes the 0x200-byte header that Lunar Magic requires.

Dude, chill. I'm pretty sure you could construct a very crude loop using acceleration blocks. Mario just wouldn't run around the inside of it, he'd be "thrown around". I can't say some pictures wouldn't help his credibility, though.

By the way, your avatar sucks. I get the urge to shoot my monitor every time I see it.

Owwww! No! I couldn't imagine staring at a white screen for more than a few minutes...

Also, Sonicandtails, YY-CHR DOES have a fill option...see the paint bottle at the bottom of the right-hand toolbar?

I'm sorry, but that's a really lame idea. Unless you figured out some way to hook the MIDI player into the emulator (as I've mentioned before), we'd have to to listen to the SAME TRACK throughout the entire game. No thanks. Just stick with the SMW music until Blackhole releases his editor.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with backing up your ROM. Granted, it's highly unlikely the palette editor's going to corrupt your ROM, but as the old, overused saying goes, "better safe than sorry."

Personally, I make a backup copy once every few LM sessions, and every time I make major modifications. They've come in handy on a couple of occasions, at least...

Glyph: the next negative post you make in this topic is getting nuked. I'm certain Smallhacker didn't spend time coding the program and making this post just so you could repeatedly state how useless it is.

If this little tool helps stem the tide of utterly boring SMW hacks that have appeared as of late, then I'm all for it.

I know older emulators/SPC emulation libraries played SPCs an octave or two too high, though I think that was fixed a few years ago...

Just try kicking it up a notch or two, and we'll let you know if it sounds right.

smwedit, if you don't even know what the heck you're talking about, please don't bother replying.

Ack! No! You don't write directly to the SPC registers in SMW. There is a set of RAM addresses that do the work for you, at $1DF9-$1DFC. I can't recall which ones do which, though it should be in the archived memory locations thread from the old board. I'm pretty certain $1DFB is for music.

It would help if you told us exactly what it's doing (or, in this case, not doing). "it doesn't work" could mean any number of things, from an incorrect ROM version to an overheating CPU.

Actually, it's not that complicated at all. This is the easiest, non-streamlined way to do it, but I'll leave the coding up to you, cpubasic.

1. Create a new block that loads the on/off switch flag ($14AF) and branches 14 (#$0E) bytes if the flag is not zero (switch is "on"). Save under whatever filename you choose.
2. Open 1wayl.bin, copy its contents, and paste them at the end of this new file. Repeat with 1wayr.bin.

How it works: if the switch is ON, the code will branch and execute jonwil's original 1-way Block Right code. If OFF, no branch will occur, and the 1-way Block Left code will be executed instead.

Dude, that's awesome. I'm tempted to remove the item box now...either that, or leave it there, but make the items available only through Toad's Item Shop.

I wonder how one would go about preventing a powerup from appearing when you cross the goal while carrying an item, though?

I knew about it, but didn't know exactly what caused it until the first time you explained it. I thought I was just getting random 1-ups.

Anyway, I disabled it quite some time ago, since my hack has no timer. I may root through the ROM tomorrow and try to find what I changed. If I find it, I'll put the info here.

I like that HOSTS idea, but you can easily remove the entry yourself. Bans are enforced by someone else, and are not as easily removed, which helps if you're a really weak-willed person...
