I already did this for a future side-scrolling shooter segment of SMO. What I did, IIRC, was set Mario's X/Y speed to zero and directly increment/decrement his X/Y position according to what directions are being pressed. I also hooked the fireball routine so it shoots them straight ahead at high speed when the "shooter" code is active. I may have to release this code separately sometime in the future.

Hotmail was my very first e-mail provider. I only keep the account around for website registration purposes, or any other time I'm pretty much guaranteed to get spam, since the address is already on every single list out there.

I also need to back up my oldancient mail sometime, but that's a pain in the butt, unless someone knows a way I can just download everything at once (POP, maybe?).

In response to topic title: no.

She'll do what any huge star would do: either leave it in the care of an expensive hired sitter all day, or fade into obscurity. I'm hoping for the latter, though I think it's already been well underway for a few years now.

Microsoft is too focused on things like DRM and excessive eye candy to bother with anything of real value (honestly, why does an OS NEED 3D acceleration?). You can't appeal to huge corporations, the masses, and the power users all at the same time*.

The only way you're going to prevent cheating is to hack the game so it can ONLY be played on real SNES hardware (look for timing glitches or register values that are only present in emulators?). Of course, you'd be excluding nearly everyone that would want to play the hack, and such hardware checks can always be reversed, unless you heaily intertwine them with the original game code in various undetectable ways...

Upside-down?

Try renaming the PBM files to BMP. That's how I extracted all the graphics used in my layout (especially the Sue avatar, since I'm not aware of any way to make it appear in-game).

If you want to use the SMB2 Discombobulator's "enemy properties" editor (and possibly some other features), you'd better stick with PRG0, otherwise you'll be editing the wrong data. I'm not aware of any differences between the two, playability-wise.

Besides, I think PRG0 is more common, and you don't want to make the end user look all over creation for the ROM if they don't have the GoodNES set.

An alternative to ROM expansion or mid-game bank swapping:

If the original game doesn't use it, or doesn't use all of it (highly likely), you can use WRAM ($6000-$7FFF) to hold extra ASM routines or temporary data. You've got 8,192 bytes to work with, or the equivalent of an MMC3 ROM bank! This can come in very handy if there's very little space in the ROM bank your code needs to reside in, since WRAM is always loaded and always accessible. As long as there's a ROM bank in the game that has enough space to hold your code, you can hack the game's startup routine to temporarily swap it in, copy the code into WRAM, and then swap back. You can then jump to this code at any time during the game.

Another "less kosher" method would be to include a .SAV file with your hack that already contains the necessary routines. Emulators would then load this into WRAM (WRAM and SRAM are the same thing, SRAM's just battery-backed) and you wouldn't have to bother with copying the code in the first place. The problems with this method are a) there's extra work involved on the part of the end user, having to copy the .SAV file to the proper folder for the emulator to recognize it, b) it could become corrupted by a game/emulator crash, requiring the user to restore the original file, and c) playing the hack on a real NES would be impossible, unless you soldered an EPROM with the code in place of the cart's WRAM. (However, I believe "The Jetsons" was configured in just such a way during development, since part of the debug code jumps to $6000, even though the game never writes anything there...)

There *might* be other limitations I'm not aware of that would prevent this from working, but it doesn't seem likely, as many NES games already execute code from ordinary RAM.

I've been to Austin twice. Texas is a beautiful state, and I'd love to move there...if it wasn't as humid as a small bathroom right after a hot shower.

Er, since you won't see this until you get back...hope you had fun!

Well, if I ever finish SMO, I'll probably move on to something that isn't ROM hacking, or maybe just offer my services to others. I'd like to start making levels for ordinary PC games again, as I used to be quite the Duke Nukem 3D level-building whiz back in the day. I'd also like to make my own game from scratch someday, probably a simple side-scroller like Cave Story.

Did anyone drink Pepsi Blue while it was still around? That stuff seemed to bomb faster than Crystal Pepsi, and for good reason. Blecch.

No need...as I implied in my previous post, it's already gone the way of Crystal Pepsi. I'm sure you can find some on eBay if you're ever curious, though.

Guys, there's absolutely no point in unlocking DW:TLC, because there are NO AVAILABLE UTILITIES that will work with its memory map, including LM. You'd need Fu's private build.

If you need the ASM that badly, you're gonna have to hack it out of the ROM yourself (to be honest, I'm surprised nobody's attempted this yet).
