You should never have to manually expand a ROM, unless you're adding a bunch of stuff yourself and need the extra space. LM will automatically expand the ROM if you run out of space. Doing it yourself will only cause problems for everyone else, as this thread proves.

Oh...well, that's awesome. I could've sworn somebody had tried it before and it didn't work.

I'm rather happy with my current setup, although there are a few things I would really like to have:

- A 21' monitor
- A much faster video card, as my current GeForce is a HUGE bottleneck (I saw a $500+ Matrox card at CompUSA today...discounted from $700+! )
- More high-quality RAM (preferably a 512MB CAS2 DDR dual-channel kit - don't need any more than that)
- A dual-layer DVD

My driving test lasted less than 5 minutes, IIRC. The instructor basically had me drive around the block, and it was over before I knew it. Just make sure you're cautious and courteous, and above all, calm. You'll do fine.

As I recall, my score was a 96 or 97, and the "mistake" I made was debatable, as I did exactly what the book said (I'm not supposed to pull into the farthest-right lane when taking a free right turn?!).

More like "ROMs request."

And yes, posts like this are very bad. We try to keep things mostly legal here.

My OS history probably goes something like this:

B/W Mac -> color Mac -> DOS -> Win3.1 -> Win95 -> Win98SE -> Win2K

Technically, the first computer I worked with was probably the Apple IIc in elementary school, but it didn't really have an OS per se. I believe I was introduced to Macs in middle school, and my first home computer only had DOS. Win3.1 came along shortly afterwards, but I hardly ever used it for the longest time...DOS just felt so much more comfortable. I still miss the true "exit to DOS" option.

Genesis graphics are almost always compressed, so just opening the ROM in a tile editor won't do any good. Specific tools have to be written, just like FuSoYa's Lunar Compress, though it seems very few people have bothered to do so.

No, neither my code nor jonwil's run while the game is paused. The game actually confines itself to a very small loop when paused, so virtually nothing happens (aside from controller status checks and whatnot).

My guess is someone else saved the file in .MHT format, not him. Whoever backed up the memory locations thread in the old SMW Hacking forum (before the big KERSPLAT) used .MHT, and I can only watch in horror as IE eats up all my available RAM every time I open the files...

This even happens if I only take the value from $0020 and write it to both $0020 and $1468 or vice-versa (in 16-bit mode).
Are you trying to scroll layer 2 in a vertical level? I encountered the same problem, but unfortunately, I don't know how to fix it.

Also, how can I subtract X or Y from A?
Store X/Y to a temporary address and then use SBC $addr (don't forget to CLC first).

I managed to sort of disable moving left and right by zeroing the bits in $15. Mario still slides around, but doesn't change direction or animate. It works good enough though, but the problem is it doesn't work for A and B, leaving him still able to jump.
I think A and B are stored at a different address ($17?).

Hey, Blacky, don't rush yourself...getting the program nice and stable should take precedence over an early release. We've waited this long for a music editor, we can wait a little longer.

Yeah, generally NoCD hacks do just that: hack the main executable. You'll probably have to reinstall the game to make it act the way it did before.

Yeah, you should probably limit the next version of the program to the actual number of sprite entries SMW has.

We should probably make a list of all the 100% confirmed unused sprites in the game. As far as I can tell, one of the two "regular" Chargin' Chucks is an unused duplicate of the first. I used that to create the Stony boss, since I needed it to be unaffected by Mario's cape.

I remember playing this neat little IIc game called Bomber in middle school. It was a side-scroller in which you controlled a little airplane and (you guessed it) bombed targets. Unfortunately, as I recall, it was a demo version and eventually stopped working.

Another favorite program of mine was The Print Shop. I made a lot of neat cards and mini-posters with that.
