Proprietary = non-standard. Generally developed and used by only the originating company. Example: the GameCube's disc format is proprietary--no other console or [publically available] drive can read it.

I remember working on some proprietary Compaq or Packard Bell mini-tower a few years ago...it had boards in both the bottom and the side of the case (the side board was plugged into a slot on the narrow board at the bottom). A two-piece motherboard. WTF was that all about? I currently have an ancient desktop-case Compaq that's kind of similar, with a riser card sticking out of the motherboard that the PCI devices plug into (you can only have two or three cards installed at once). The card is fastened to a metal "wall" that separates the hinged drive bay and power supply from the rest of the case. The cables to the drives are all stuffed into this little conduit running under the wall, which is impossible to work with unless you pull the entire case apart...ugh... |

Not that it'll improve your connection speed or anything, but I suggest you use Real Alternative and Media Player Classic instead of the, ahem, "real" RealPlayer. I've used it myself and haven't had any trouble with it. Trust me, your computer will thank you.

I just started using Firefox on a regular basis as well. It tends to be somewhat slower than IE at times, and renders certain things differently, but the stability makes up for it. My current theme is GrayModern. Very clean and simple. As for extensions, I recommend Image Zoom, ieview (for potential compatibility issues), and Linkification (though I haven't used it yet, I'm certain it will come in handy soon). Extension support alone makes Firefox approximately 5 trillion times better than IE. |

Are you opening the files directly from the site, or saving them to your hard drive first? I've had trouble opening ZIP files from certain websites in the past (including my own); something gets "lost" in the communication between IE and WinZip, apparently. Saving them to a temporary folder first and then opening them always seems to work, though.

They're stored in BGR format, 5 bits per channel, like so: 0bbbbbgg gggrrrrr 0=unused, b=blue intensity, g=green intensity, r=red intensity. Of course, in the ROM, the two bytes are going to be stored in reverse order (FF 7F, not 7F FF). Lunar Magic shows the SNES format for each color, so you could just write down the first few colors of a sprite palette and search for them that way... |

Why in God's name was it necessary to bump a totally pointless, 6 MONTH OLD topic? [EDIT] ...okay, umm. Never mind. What's with the "Felix" post at the top there? (edited by BMF54123 on 10-12-04 04:42 AM) |

Levels in the ROM are stored in an object-based format, whereas levels in RAM/save states are stored as a fully constructed array of Map16 blocks. I suppose you could convert each Map16 block into a Direct Map16 Access object, but you really don't want to do that. (restricted) | (restricted) |

Unbelievable. Now Windows can be infected by a frickin' PICTURE. |
I'm never, ever touching IE again.

No, it's not possible, because Layer 3 is limited to 4 colors by the SNES hardware. The only thing you could do is erase Layer 3 completely and use Layer 1 or 2 for the logo, but then you'd have no background. |

My copy of Windows 98 does (did? haven't checked lately) the same thing, although I think it only affects the icon and not the title. Do you have Auto Insert Notification turned on? That might make a difference. |

"BYE BYE!!" is used by Professor Hanger. It scrolls across that little black screen when he "greets" you. |
"HOLD JACKPOT" is unused. I'm certain it was associated with that slot machine boss at one time (maybe scrolled across that banner on top of the machine).

All I know is that the Japanese seem to enjoy turning the famous arches upside down (are you talking about the "Wacdnalds" in yesterday's episode? ) whenever a reference is needed. They did the same thing in Bubble Bobble... |
