Yes, post some screenshots, and some kind of description. People don't like blindly downloading hacks because there are SO MANY of them. You should know that by now.

I'm a little disappointed that it can only show one address at a time, but it's still incredibly useful. I recommend it.
For everyone else, there's always my method of replacing a timer digit or two with a memory address, though you need to replace an entire page of 2bpp tiles with values 00-FF in order to get much use out of it. I think I may have released such a hack on the old board...

Sounds pretty similar to the classes my school offered back in the day. I learned a very small amount of C++ and ancient computer repair. At least I didn't have to try very hard to get good grades.

I spent a lot of my time in the computer repair class making animations with batch files and the DOS TYPE command, and in the C++ class, I played NESticle and used Visual Studio to modify Minesweeper:

Uhmm...my first irreparable motherboard damage was caused when I plugged in a keyboard at the POST screen. Lots of beeping, much panicking, and a dead keyboard controller followed.

At least we got a new computer out of that little incident...the good ol' 386DX-40, IIRC. 'Twas a good computer.

Yeah, get a new monitor. Sounds to me like that one's going bad, judging from the "screen will get fuzzy and start to flicker" part.

Exactly...that's how they keep computer-illiterate idiots (not necessarily you) from screwing things up. Less tech support calls that way.

OMG. You could make the ground slippery on top of the pancakes. That would RULE.

I could even throw together a little hack that turns on the slippery flag only when Mario touches those blocks, no problem.

I'm certain Explorer was recompiled with a different length variable for each of the different languages. Changing it would be a trivial matter if you had the source code...

I'm not aware of any software being modified due to cultural differences, aside from maybe computer games. Some software, like Web browsers, might be modified to use different encryption or remove classified/proprietary code not approved for export (I believe you're "required" to live in the U.S. to use 128-bit encryption; some programs I've downloaded have included warnings to that effect).

The weird fonts and stuff are probably due to minor interface changes implemented to support the foreign languages (for example, enlarging a text area so accent marks and other non-English characters will fit properly).

None of you guys know what you're talking about.

Bowser is not a sprite--he's a Mode 7 background image. There's nothing else in the background because you can't have anything else in the background. Mode 7 is only one layer, so anything you were to put back there would follow Bowser around (hence the reason why the floor is a bunch of sprites).

You might be able to put a few static sprites in the background to simulate scenery, but as always, that would require some ASM.

No...even when you do use a star or pipe, the old graphics are still used when event tiles fade in. I encountered this problem in my hack as well. FuSoYa's code doesn't replace all instances of the old graphics in VRAM, apparently.

I was born shortly after the 1980 eruption. My parents have pictures of our property covered in thick ash, and we're on the opposite side of the state (Spokane)!

I *really* hope we don't have another major eruption...

Odd brands like that generally need special DOS drivers to provide Sound Blaster compatibility (or the right settings in autoexec.bat). Have you tried doing a Google search for drivers and/or info?

Whoa...so the game already had the [limited] ability to use different graphics for each overworld map built-in? I can only imagine what they were planning...
