Wow. That's far more up-to-date than what I found in my cache.

Excellent work, sir! SMO shall continue unhindered!

[EDIT]
Can this be stickied, too, moderator-type peoples?

Bleh...187. I had to work today.

It's not *too* far from my original 132, I guess...and it'll look a LOT better in just a few months, I'm sure.

Well, when you have as many users as the old board did, your ID number becomes kind of a status symbol...obviously, those with a lower ID number have been around longer than those with a higher number. You can spam to get a higher post count, but you can't do anything to get a lower ID number.

Small correction: Mario's Y position is 16 bits, not 8.

How about an extra field for each address's known values (like the sound FX register)? It could be a separate pop-up window, to keep the main window short and uncluttered.

The simple fact that a regular board member, and someone Acmlm knows very well, is hosting the board makes a huge difference. The more personal interest a webmaster holds in a hosted site, the more likely it is to remain in good running order. Can you say any of that about OverClocked, whose main site hasn't even been touched since November 2001? And what good is a 4-month-old backup going to do? Emulation World simply has too much content and too little personal interest behind the scenes...the whole network's a disaster waiting to happen, as last week proved.

This move was LONG overdue. I can see things running smoothly for a long time to come.

Good thing Trasher posted these at Sonic CulT.

SMA*S SMB3: This IPS patch will enable both the menu and in-game powerup swap (press Select). To display the menu, press B on Controller 2. The cursor is the blue thing to the left. Pressing Up will scroll down by one, but pressing Down will scroll either up or down by...some large amount. Select moves the red arrow, but it's been reverted to its NES programming, so you can't select Battle Mode. B changes a tile in the title logo, just like the NES version, but it doesn't seem to affect anything. Pressing B + Down on Controller 2 (I had to hack this slightly) jumps to the Princess's chamber with a messed-up text box, while pressing B + Right will jump straight to the final curtain.
Super Metroid: You can download the teeny-tiny IPS patch here (too lazy to break out the Game Genie code maker right now). It changes a few bytes at the very beginning of the ROM, apparently reserved for debugging flags (there's one more flag I left disabled, because it just silences the SPC700). All this really does is let you poke around with sprites and make yourself invincible, depending on which buttons you press on controller 2. Still, it's kinda nifty.
Kirby's Dream Land 3: No silly ROM patches this time, just a Game Genie code: DF85-D764. Press Select on the title screen to bring up 7 pages of debugging options. Enjoy!

I think the only one left is Mega Man 7. I'll find it later.

In that case, might as well install a stripped-down AcmlmBoard.

Hmm. HyperHacker's got an interesting idea. Some parts of the Sonic games almost play themselves, thanks to the wonderfully loose physics and object interaction, but Mario doesn't do ANYTHING unless you specifically tell him to.

The jump block would be easy enough to fix, just add a little ASM that stops Mario's horizontal movement. The boost blocks, on the other hand, might be a bit trickier, thanks to the engine differences mentioned above...

(Eh? BMF's making a THREAD in GD? SOUND THE ALARMS IT'S THE END OF HUMANITY OH LORD SAVE US!)

So, yeah, just as the title says...what is it? It could be a physical object, like a brand-new car or HDTV, or something intangible, like good health or a positive outlook on life. You can list one of each if you like (tangible/intangible). I expect to see a wide range of answers (and probably a lot of bragging), which is what made this topic idea so appealing...hopefully this will really get some people thinking about what's most important in their lives.

For me, it's probably my comfortable lifestyle in a peaceful neighborhood. I don't have everything that I want, but I have everything that I need, and I just feel that this is where I'm supposed to be in life right now. It's all good.

[EDIT]
Eh, might as well brag a little: my extensive video game collection is rather nice, especially the Street Fighter II arcade cabinet and box of game boards.

I'm pretty good at drawing, though it seems I'm better at pixel art than actual pen-and-paper art (used to be the other way around). I can learn some complex things pretty fast, like ASM, and am really good at quickly picking out patterns and small details in pages full of hex code (hence my ability to find debug modes in games).

I also have an incredible imagination, and have created entire worlds and races of creatures in my head, but I'm not that good at expressing these things through stories or comics...I have an eternal case of writer's block.

I don't care if that idiot in the first post hacked it or not. Morons like that need a good spiked boot where the sun don't shine, to prevent any accidental reproduction. Almost nothing ticks me off more than an "omg l33t h4x0r lolol"...it's bottom-feeding scum like that that help make the Internet the worthless cesspool that it is.

I patched my ROM to force one player, but I think my method was a little too complex. The changes I made originally caused the "continue and save/continue without save" window in the game to reset all of Mario's stats (score, lives, powerup), since they're tied into the same routine, so I had to code a few workarounds...

In other words, an IPS patch of my method is out of the question.

McDonald's is the pinnacle of nasty fast food. If they'd spend a little less on advertising/lining corporate execs' pockets, maybe they could afford to make their food look and taste a little better. Ugh.

I usually go to Wendy's on my lunch breaks (see, they actually TRY to make their food good), but that's only because Dick's is 15 minutes away. Dick's is a drive-in burger joint that hasn't really changed their menu since they opened (probably back in the 50's). You can get a full meal, equal in size to McDonalds' largest combo, for less than $4. The food is absolutely heavenly...almost transparent with grease, always hot and fresh, and the tartar sauce is to DIE for. If any of you ever visit Spokane, make sure you eat there first...and take a bagful of burgers home with you, 'cause there's only one Dick's in the entire world.

In this day and age, you're far better off getting ANYTHING that's not free. Paid hosting is getting cheaper every day, and even the cheapest will usually provide services far above and beyond whatever GeoCities, Angelfire, Tripod, and especially Freewebs can provide: no linking restrictions, no banners or popups, and no lame URL are just a few of the benefits. For example, I pay approx. $10-$12 a month to HostRocket for 330MB of space and 20GB of bandwidth, and that plan is a couple years old...their current economy plan gives you 50GB of bandwidth and 1GB of storage for the same price. Since most people don't even need that much, you can find even cheaper hosting with fewer unnecessary services for $5 or less. Who can't afford that? (Oh, and HostRocket has free hosting, too... [/shameless plug])

I wish more people would examine their options before whining about how much their free hosting sucks...

The screen mode SMW uses doesn't allow that, and I don't think it would be possible to use a different mode. The higher you go, bitdepth-wise, the less screen layers and other features you have.
