EDIT: then again, there might be some sort of checksum for the entire game.

That's entirely possible, however, there's also another culprit that could be at work. The rom isn't in binary format, or at least it might not be. Genesis roms, when dumped, are dumped in such a way that they aren't in standard binary when done so, it's some crazy "interleaving" that makes it pretty much unreadable, etc etc etc and whathaveyou. I suggest you search google for some SMD->BIN utilities, and try again.

This movie does tell me one thing though:
Spoiler:
It seems to be completely stand alone from the previous Batman movies. A couple of things don't tie in that well from one to the next, so this could be a completely new series of movies, which doesn't bother me one bit. Bring them on!

Yeah, and there some some members that what Nintendo did was ok. Nintendo did it pretty much for the purpose of trying to keep America in the dark about how many games there really were. And it would've worked too, if it weren't for that pesky Sony and their refusal to rename Final Fantasy VII to Final Fantasy IV!

--Edit--
As Nintendo did the translations for FF1, FF4, and FF6, Sony did the translation for FF7. It was up to Sony to continue the charade!

Last month, while still in the preparation stages for Jade's map editor, I was throwing in what it should be able to do (you know, besides edit the map.) FFHackster gives you the option to display what tile you have selected, like so:

Well, now I'm trying to do so with Jade. The purpose, to make editing the map like so:

easier on the user.

Sounds simple so far? For the most part, but I always wind up making things complicated. About 3 weeks ago, I floated an idea to a friend of mine about letting the user customize the colors of those boxes, among other things related to this issue. After looking through MSDN, turns out that something called SetDCPenColor can, but is restricted to the 2k and XP users. At least it appears that way, so that's out. I think I found a way around the color changing, but I now have this problem: I don't know how to draw with them. They are declared and created (1 pixel wide) but beyond that I don't know what to do, and MSDN's example isn't the greatest. So my question is, how do I make the box dimensions and then draw that box afterwards?

Bonus question: My method of getting around the color changing is making the pens local variables, but do they still need to be deleted when I'm done?

Ok, got the HPEN thing out of the way, now I have a new problem, but much more minor.

The dialog with my tiles is the parent, the map dialog is the child, and when the user selects a tile with the right click on the map, the info is updated, but the parent doesn't refresh the box if it needs to. Looking through some WndProc, I noticed that WM_NCPAINT, WM_NCRBUTTONDOWN and WM_NCLBUTTDOWN would work for me, but they aren't. I basically need to redraw the parent when the user clicks the right mouse button on the child, so it'll redraw properly. I thought by sticking an InvalidateRect in that case would do the trick, but it hasn't. Is there something else I'm missing?

That depends on the "era" really. In the span of 98-01, Leno was above all else, Conan was pretty good, as was Kilborn. Leno had a really good monologue back in the old days, and the skits that followed were absolutely hilarious. I mean, you can't top Headlines at all.

Then Andy left to control the universe and do a role next to Richard Gere. How's that working out for ya? Conan has survived being without the Richter, and we all miss him . The only thing I worry about, is that Max + Co. won't be following Conan, and that he'll have to "clean up his act" once he moves in a couple of years. I also did catch Kilborn on the Daily Show when he was still hosting it, and then again when he moved to the Late Late Show.

By era, I would rate them like so:
98-01: Leno
02-present: Conan
Letterman is seldomly funny...

How long has power been out? It can't possibly be as bad as you are describing it though. It's warm enough where you don't really have to worry about being cold, although if it gets too hot, no AC or fans or of-the-like.

The northeast blackout of 03 was insane in the way that it just took out power for that many people. But I also have a story...
April, 2001, on a somewhat cold night, Godzilla was on NBC. It had been raining pretty heavily during the course of the night. It was nearing 10 pm local time when all of a sudden *bzzt*..............the power went out. It didn't really seem that bad at first, and since it was 10 pm, couldn't tell the extent of the outage. So, after a good nights sleep, and without the aid of my alarm clock, managed to wake up at 6 am the next morning. Oh man, it was a sight that needed a few cameras and a shitload of film. Every tree, every power line, everything was covered in a layer of ice that was easily an inch thick. The view was breath-taking, the inner city of Duluth wasn't affected as much, simply because there were more buildings than other things. But, the entire surrounding area of about 15 miles was brought to a screeching halt for about 5 or 6 days easily. There weren't any local news casts for 2 days, and many people didn't get power back for almost 2 weeks. Also, it was a cold winter, and spring wasn't any warmer. The night of the storm and the following day, you had to have a gas stove or be very very cold.

Granted, my experience probably wasn't as wide-scale as yours. Let's just hope that people use their heads in this matter.

After reading through the "Favorite NES" and "Favorite SNES" games thread, I made this one to complete the cycle. Instead of favorites, it's everything. Here's my list, although, I know it won't be as big as some others, I suspect. I've already been chewed out for not having played Megaman 1, 2, or 4-6, among other games. All right, let's see just how badly I'm outdone here. :p

--Edit--
The problem with this kind of list is, that I'm mostly going on memory. There are a ton of games I forgot.

Example: There's a castlevania game for gameboy that I played back in 93, but don't remember the name of it at all. Stuff like that, and I'm surprised that my NES list isn't 3x larger... Oh well *sigh*

I managed to get it to work, in the child, just have it do the Invalidating, but using the parentwnd as the handle. No biggie, but now it flickers.

As for the lpRect, the only way it has been able to work so far is if I pass NULL to it. If it wasn't NULL, not everything was drawn at once. But now that the Invalidating issue is solved, one more problem! I'm also not going to make another thread for it either.

I'll let the screenshot do the talking:

Funny how everything comes back to FFHackster... Anyway, when you scroll around on Hackster's map editor, it'll keep the position of the tile you had clicked on, and that's what I've been trying to do with Jade. If the scroll bars start at the left and top positions, place and scroll, everything works fine. If I scroll one tile in either direction, place, and scroll again, it's off. I tripled checked my X/Y tile placing coordinates, those are fine. I know my problem is the position of the scroll bars, because my calculations have been off everytime. I'd rather get this in place, and then after that it's map compression! (whoo-hoo........)

Anyone have an idea on how I can persue this one?

--Edit--
Although I probably shouldn't, you can get a good idea as to what I'm talking about here. And I've come prepared:
  • In the testing stages, it has become apparent that the following line must exist. Jade does not load anything unless it can find a directory from the data file. And since this will be a fresh data file version for everyone, nothing is loaded off the bat. To load anything, click on Options -> Configure. Ok?
