My girlfriend and I go to NYC every year around Christmastime. It's a tradition, since that's where we first hooked up..

Well, okay, we've only done it twice, since we've been together for over a year, but yea. If anyone knows how to go ice skating in Rockefeller Center without standing in line for 6 hours, please inform me.

In a broad sense, my favorite classes are the social science ones..

My least favorite were always the gym / home economic type classes. So worthless.

An odd thing is that hhallahh was a character in a fan made starcraft Campaign...

Hebesphenomegacorona was an odd name.. so is Yarx.

Wow. You're the first person I've ever come across to catch that on your own. I actually did steal the name from RCX's Archon. I de-capitalized it when I stole it, though (or sometimes I do it as HhallahH), I thought it was cool that way.

But Hhallahh rocked, and I'm amazed that someone on a non-Blizzard forum mentioned that.

I actually liked Dario's Adventure a lot. The design was a bit sloppy, but the levels were fun and original, not your boring left-to-right run. It'd be really cool to see more of it.

As a note, I think this thread should be for completed hacks only. =\ Demos are clutter, and people make all kinds of threads for demos anyways. There should be a nice, concise list of all the available hacks..

It looks pretty nice. The background is kinda "loud", though, and if it weren't for those houses, it'd be difficult to tell apart from the foreground. I'd work on that a little.

It looks quite good. I remember not being overly impressed with SMW5+, but for some reason, this looks... promising.

And yea, the OW. You've never been great at that, which seems strange... just don't make them so blocky?

Well, for better or worse, cosmetic issues are important.. I mean, that's why you use ExGFX, right? Nowadays, you could have the best level design in the world, and no one would play your hack if it didn't have new graphics.

So far I've played only the first world, but since this is such a lively discussion, I'll add my 2 cents.

First of all, I have the "better" version, I guess, but there are still a lot of ExGFX issues. Seriously, SMWExpert needed a beta test or something to get this all straight before he released the hack. It's probably easily fixable, but it's just sloppy.

The level design. Hm. It's not terrible, but it seems so.. illogical. It seems like SMWExpert just kinda designed levels kinda like, "Okay... let's have one of those moving rope things... and then... how about a fence? Yea, a fence. And then there should be a billion koopas in the next part." It just seems so random and incohesive. The balance is good and stuff, but the design is disenchanting.

Overworld is pretty bland, yea. But I don't have as high of standards for overworld as some people here do. Oh well.

I'll finish this hack later.

Posted on 03-31-04 09:47 AM, in Mario World finished hack database Link
The SMW Hack Showcase thread is a mess of demos and stuff, and I thought it would be much nicer to have a thread dedicated to finished hacks. A place where all the hacks could be listed together would be very, very nice... if it was comprehensive.

Basically, I'm going to compile a list of hacks that have been completed. I'll continually update this post (the first one of the thread) with the data of the completed hacks, hence making it a database (naturally.) In order to do so, of course, I need people to reply and tell me about completed hacks that are in existence. Specifically, I would appreciate the following about each hack:

Hack Name:
Designer(s) (with possible e-mail address / homepage links / ACMLM profile link):
Screenshot / Webpage / IPS links:
Maximum number of exits achievable (those points you get for beating a level):
Hack Difficulty (Easy/Medium/Hard):
Hack Release Date:
Does the Hack use custom graphics, blocks, sprites, or an overworld?:
Additional Info (A short description or plug):

So please, if you have a completed hack, just fill out the above (as much as you can.. if you don't know, say, the release date or something, it's okay.. leave it blank and maybe someone can fill it in later) and reply. I'll then update this post with the hack information.

If anyone has any comments on how to run the database (additional data I should get?), please feel free to give suggestions. Hopefully this thread will become THE thread for people looking for a new hack to come to. It can only become successful by your contributions. So please help me out here. I'll start with an example, and hopefully I'll have many more soon..

Note: At the moment, I think I'll list hacks in reverse chronological order by release date (ie. newest ones first.)

Note 2: Feel free to correct any data for any hack if you feel it could be better.

I know he did. But I'm not just gonna list the hacks, I need someone to fill out the data (for each one x_X) before I post it.. preferably Goldenyoshi himself would do it.

[Edit]

Well, maybe I should list hacks that need data filled out. So that would include:

SMW+
SMW2+
SMW3+
SMW4+
SMW5+
SMW-

Need others.

I'd be fine with it if you wanted to use my DW:TLC FAQ.

Also, if the completed hacks database thread is successful, that would also be a good resource to turn into a webpage (especially with some mechanism to vote on each hack.) If things go well, I'll try to create an in-progress hacks database as well (basically making the SMW Hacks Showcase thread obsolete, but it pretty much sucks to begin with.)

Hm, I guess this begs the question of what I'd define as a complete hack. I'll probably try to clarify in a later update.

Suffice to say, parody hacks tend to be the exception to most rules. x_X Being purposely bad, I don't think the fact that they aren't "full" necessarily makes them not "complete"... unless you really want it removed from the list, of course.

I debate whether judging hack length by worlds, levels, or possible game points... the number of levels is the best measure, but it also the hardest to count. Worlds can have a variable number of levels, so worlds may not be the best measure.. Idunno. Maybe I'll try to change it to levels and just count them myself, but the problem is that there are a fair number of hacks that I haven't completed so I can't do the counting.. yea.

Yes, that's why I'm loathe to go by that definition. Discontinued hacks and complete hacks are obviously different... in addition, there are plenty of full hacks that could be considered incomplete just because they're so damn bad (graphical errors, OW path problems, etc.)

Of course, parody hacks go by a different standard... but maybe they shouldn't, because by the current criteria I use pretty much anyone could make a parody hack in a couple days and get it on the list, which might create too much distraction from real hacks. Idunno.. the only well-known parody hacks I could think of were SMW- and Chaos CompleXXX, so I figured it would be harmless to just add those two.
